Buying new reel

Hey guys, so yesterday I bought a new rod, it is a Shimano Starlo Classix 902 Shore Spin (5-10kg), I also bought a reel, which was a Mojiko KL6000, it was on some insane sale (from $80 to $20) so it was super cheap, but I think the reel is a bit too big for the rod. I plan to mostly use it on the beach.

So my question is; should I get a new reel to match this rod better? or should I get a bigger rod to match the reel? (Shimano Starlo Classix 1062 Surf Spin maybe? I really love the look and reel of these rods.)

I'm not sure what reels to be looking at, does anyone have any suggestions? Not looking to pay over $100. Also what line should I use for the reel I have? I have 17 pound Trilene on it atm but I think it is a bit too heavy.

Great fishing night at Wanbro

So a few weeks ago I caught a 1.6 meter spinner shark from a nude beach in Wanbro. I caught it with my 3-7 kilo tailor rod that had 3 kilo line. The Shark weighed in at 11.4 kilos. I think the only reason I got it in, in under 10 minutes was because it did a death role and got itself tangeled in the line so I was pulling it in backwards. We also caught 12 salmon, each weighing in around 1-2 kilo each.

I just have a few questions;

1. Are Spinner Sharks  protected? I heard they are not from all the guys who were crowding around me when I caught it. I also saw on wikipedia that they aren't.

2. Why do Spinner Shark they taste so good?

3. Is it normal for a Spinner shark to be caught there?

4. Why was I catching Salmon out of season?

Sorry for no pictures. We took a couple with my old mans phone but he dropped it in the water when he was burlying up.

I also recommend you check the place out. I clean up every night I go there; Bream, Tailor, Herring, Whiting and ALOT of other fish depending on the time of year. It's off of Grand Ocean Boulevard. Search it on Google maps or something. One other thing I must mention, it is a pain with stingrays, you will without a doubt catch at least 1 stingray there, especially if you are using gangs.

Steel rod clamp(s) for overhead reels where to get, please?

I seem to have lost my rodclamp of 2 of my reels and would like to change 2 others from plastic provided to Stainless steel.

Where would I have a chance of getting these bits here in Perth?

2 are for Shimano Tyrnos 30 and 2 are for Penn Senator 4 & 6.

North Mole sharks

Want to give shark fishing a go sometime this week at north mole. this is my first time so was just wondering a few things. what rigs should i use ,balloon setup, slide bait? what size hooks keeping in mind im not chasing huge monsters and will just one hook do the job or would i be better of with 2 or more?ay advice would be appreciated

Washed up

Saw that when I was walking my dog today at North Beach. It said shark research on the side of it. So i guess its one of the whitepointer buoys.

todays swan crabs

well, with this being my last day of holidays before going back to work 2moro we went down the river for a cruz and bit of a crab,

the amount of boats on the water crabbing at 8.00am was unbeliveable, anyway drop some pots when we found somewhere and ended up getting 10 good size blueys.

packed it in and headed back to the ramp by 1.00pm and the boat ramp at maylands was packed to the hilt, every man and his dog must of been on the water today.

anyway, good day for a quick run and some crabs for some freinds, troy tried some chilli crabs and i threw in a bit of dhuy fillet and that was very tasty indeed.

cheers ron

Husband's Work is never done

If your wondering why I haven't been out fishing my wife is away in the UK for 3 weeks and comes back tomorrow night at some ridiculous hour. We use Skpe to video conferance and it's like "have you watered the Xmas Tree?", "don't forget to wash the bedding before I get back", "is the pool clean?", "have you cleaned the fish tank?", "don't forget it's both bins tonight", "is all the washing done?", "please steam clean the floors before I get back"... etc.

The dishwasher has shit itself so a service required there this week. The aircon drive belt came loose so I had to get on the roof and fix that. The back yard is a mess due to the high winds. The dog is pestering me all the time and so is the cat. The fish just stare at me as if I am some kind of retard LOL.

Had friends drop in yesterday for a BBQ. I had forgotten all about it so when they came the vaccum cleaner was out, dishes all over the place, they bought us this awesome Xmas pressie and I forgot all about getting them one..... This is all too hard guys!!!!!!!!!!

Next time I'm going O/seas and she can stay home LOL.

can someone tell me what this fish is?

This fish was speared just off seal rock in about 4m of water, about 35-40cm in length, i didnt want it to go to waste so i cooked it up and it made for a decent feed.

land based angler issues

Hey guys, im new to the site and this is my first post so lets see how we go.

Im a land based angler who has never fished from a boat. i would like to get a boat in the near future but for now im stuck on land. Anyhow i just wanted to know if anyone had any tips for fishing when its quite windy (like it has beeen the last few days). I tried the river last night but after 2 and a half hours i only caught about 10 bream and although they fought well were all only between 20-25cm. So basically is there any spots or tactics anyone could recommend for fishing in the ocean when its windy. Even just for tailor or something. Oh and i live in the Kwinana area but dont mind travelling a bit :)

Cheers in advance peeps

Busselton

Hi guys,

I am moving from Perth to Busselton in the next month or so. can anyone give me some advice on the fishing down there. Is there anything shore based?

I have a 4.20 dinghy, will that do for inside the bay? is there good offshore fishing if i was to get a bigger boat? What size do you think is the ideal boat for down there.

Cheers

Jurien Bay first timer

Hi guys, am new to this site.

I'm heading up to Jurien Bay soon for my first time, i'm towing 6.5m boat up

but I really have no idea where to fish.

Can someone lead me in the right direction/general area?,

Not really asking for Co-ords as I'm sure you guys aren't willing to give them away but they would be nice.

I've read all the landbased posts, but really want to get into some demersal/jigging action and maybe some macks if they are there

All advice appreciated.

tent mod's

more questions?

i have 1 of those oz trail tents, the light plastic type material one (not canvas) it is a two room type with 1 side a normal tent and the other just flyscreen material.

i want to know who can do some mod's to this for me?

i want to keep the flyscreen side but also to be able to have it enclosed like a tent, so i am needing 3 non see through flaps sewed in with zippers on each corner so they can be rolled up when not in use, or down when its raining or for the extra room.

yes there is other tents on the market with this set up, but i like this tent as it has sqaure walls and you can stand up in it, also it was a gift.

im not sure if motor trimmers can do this light fabric type of work? one trimmer freind i rang said all his gear was to heavy duty for the tent material.

anybody know someone local, kewdale, welshpool areas?

thanks in advance

mission failed

hey fellas, well due to a growing family and financial issues i wasnt able to take an annual holiday this year. so i set my mission at the start of the holidays to catch a damn bream or a decent flathead on hb during my 2 weeks off.

ive fished everyday, sometimes mornings, sometimes evenings, from the lower reaches of the canning to east freo,(wind didnt help this holidays).

well to cut the long story short, i failed. caught 2 undersized flatties n no bream. however this is not my issue, at the start of holidays i bought heaps of lures from little sebiles, berkly stick baits etc read mags on how to use them. well ive lost them all abt 200 bucks worth. sometimes on the first cast i get snagged.

i mean you are supposed to fish snaggy areas for bream right? i am more focused on not getting snagged than trying to get a fish. so my question to all those fishos that catch bream on hb, is it normal to lose at least 1 lure a session, or am i worrying abt something normal?

thanks

Mike & his first Super Deep fish!

Despite the average weather conditions recently my staff member Mike was very keen to tangle with his first super deep species. These fish have been on his to-do radar for some time and I said i'll get him out there soon but the weathers been shit lately!

That aside I said we'll launch late and get out there for a looky-see (yesterday). With a very keen smile Mike was eager and treated to what it takes to get fish out there...............ie time spent sounding around, fish not firing, fish not showing up, drift too fast for jigs etc.............he got to see its not always that easy!

I went to a final spot where I said no guarantees as the fish havnt been at that spot lately but always the way......they were!

Drift was screaming with the Northerly current and windy NW winds so drift speed was close to 2knots and no place for jigs. I said to Mike drop baits and that he did, big slimy mackerel baits and hooked up quickly after hitting the bottom with 80oz of lead. After a great fight from the deep he landed his first super deep species a quality Bass Groper...........a quick photo pic and re-bait!

On the second drift he hooked up again and this fish gave him equal fight but a bit more stubborn, end result was his second super deep fish a big Blue-eye Trevalla!

Mike had a massive smile after landing the Trevalla, the two fish made his day which made mine. The trip was all about Mike getting into his firsts and congats Mike ....... left the fish on the bite!
