Bloody Coral Trout.
Submitted by wadetolley on Thu, 2010-06-17 11:23Went fishing down by the resort yesterday off the beach. Had a ball catching and releasing coral trout from 15cm long to 45 cms long, must of hooked onto around 30 fish. A good size rock bar runs all the way along the beach about 30 metres out. On high tide there is about 1 m of water above the rocks. I have been hurling out crome slices and retreiving them at a slow pace, the trout cant get enough of them. Not unusual to have another trout following his buddy right up to shore, when one is hooked on a lure. Have tried throwing out poppers of all colours over this same area, but they do not go for them.
Went out in the boat today. Tried some bottom fishing, but the current was strong and the fish were hiding. Lots of birds working so we thew on some lures. Hoping for some mackie or even a tuna for some strip bait. The fish working the bait were big queenfish, had a ball hooking up to a few. Hopefully sat when we go out, we can get over to skinny city and hook some bit gts. 10-4 over and out.

wtb saltist or saragosa
Submitted by Rig on Tue, 2010-06-15 18:34Hi Guys
I am looking at a new combo for high speen spinning off the rocks at quobba/steep on a pe4-6 rod
so far in my budget i have come across the shimano saragosa 18000F vs the Daiwa Saltist 6500 and I am having a tough time deciding the saltist has a better ratio 6:2:1 saragosa has 4:9:1 the saltist winds 134 cm per rotation and saragosa 104cm the satist has 30kg of drag and the saragosa.
On paper the saltist looks better with a faster retrieve but i have heard the sargosa may me tougher especially when my target species are mackies.
anyone used these and recomend one over another
thanks

rescue and recover
Submitted by just dhu it on Mon, 2010-06-14 20:17I was interested to see that the young American sailor was rescued by a French research boat several days ago approx 3000kms of our coast, my question is what happens the the damaged yacht, does it get scuttled and sink or do they leave it to float around and maybe wash up some where ??

Denham Sound Snapper TAC
Submitted by smicko on Mon, 2010-06-14 19:03You'd reckon that with the convoluted laws regarding the Shark Bay Pink Snapper fishery that a bit more information would be available online. The Denham Sound regs state a daily limit of 1 fish with a slot size between 500-700mm per day with a total allowable catch of 15 tonne for the Denham Sound fishery. But good luck trying to find any info as to whether that TAC has been achieved yet this year or in years past. It's a bloody minefield. But I guess that's what they were trying to achieve, make it too damn hard to keep any fish.

Tailor Bash
Submitted by Simmo Ryan on Mon, 2010-06-14 18:59Evening all,
Got a couple of days off work and i'm planning to go out on another fishing expedition in search of the big greenbacks.
Tried Two Rocks last week and managed one decent sized fish on a Halco Twisty, but was thinking about going a bit closer to home this time round.
Was thinking of trying Floreat Drain or maybe Cottesloe Groyne, haven't fished these areas really but with high tide at 10am and a bit of weather around thought it might be worth a go.
Has anyone fished either of these spots recently on the early morning tide? Would be interested to find out how you went.
Cheers Simmo

Submitted by oldsalty on Mon, 2010-06-14 11:11Hey Everyone,
Just have a question about the weather there at this time of year. Will be there in a couple weeks and have heard its pretty exsposed to easterlies that come through this time of year. If this is the case, what are the options as to avoiding the east winds and how far away are different boat ramps etc... to launch at, We have endured a fair bit of weather in Exmouth atm and really dont want to cop it at Pt Samson again,
any info much appreciated,

UW camera setup
Submitted by Gully on Mon, 2010-06-14 11:10I have had a few enquiries as to the setup I am using for the UW photos.
I am currently using a Canon EOS5D mark II camera.
I have 2 lenses at present for this camera and they are a Canon 100mm Macro f/2, and also a Canon 17-40mm f/4L. Most of the pics are with the 17-40mm lens. Hope to get a couple more soon.
For the housing it is an Ikelite housing and I have an 8inch dome port for wide angle stuff and also the modular flat port for the macro.
Lighting is from a TTL strobe and again is Ikelite (DS160) but I am waiting for some improvement in the Aus$ so I can get another and then have dual strobes.
As for locations for the latest lot of pics they are all from the last Exmouth trip just gone.
Cheers
Gully

Not fishing but fun
Submitted by piston broke on Mon, 2010-06-14 08:00I recently spent 5 days with two mates prospecting north of Sandstone. We didnt find much gold but we had a ball. The temps were about 26 in the day and 18 at night. It was amazing to sleep under the stars and watch the satellites passing over.Late one afternoon on the way back to camp we saw a mob of goats.I jumped out of the car, grabbed the rifle,6 rounds and the GPS.The goats were off and so was I. I chased the buggers for about a k before I found cover and a decent range.I picked the smallest and dropped it with a chest shot. By now its getting dark so I unloaded the rifle and used the GPS get back to camp with the goat. The next night we created a really good goat pasta dish.
Most importantly, the ice box held ice for 5 days; COLD BEER!Icant wait to get back there. cheers Pete.

removing old adds from the list in the for sale forum
Submitted by whittley500 on Sat, 2010-06-12 21:39This is just an idea,
the adds in the latest for sale /buy forum seam to be very old. tTo me it would make sence to remove the old adds.
Or the adds that the items have been sold, this would keep the latest for sale/buy forum more up to date.
I do not what to bitch as the site is the best fishing site i have joined. The only reason for this forum is that i found an add that i was interested in but later found out that the add was over 2 years old.
thank guys

snapper sesh .... again
Submitted by brenz on Sat, 2010-06-12 20:26after last night i thought id have another crack at a bigger snapper.
chaos at the ramp with a few idiots thrown in was not a great start but after 10 min we were off at roughly 230.
got to the spot were the skippy were thick as theives boating 15 between myself and carly all released then the juvi pinks mooved in nailing 10 or so of them aswell by this time it was getting dark and hopes were fading of the big pink from the tinny... then zzzzzzzzzzzz of went both rods at once giving us false hope as they were 2 snook both round 90cm long . 10 minustes went by without a sniff then it was on again both rods agressivly hooked up to shallow water freight trains rusult = carlys snapper seen then reefed DOH and mine landed at 80 cm this was a better fish than last night and we were stoked.
