ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN BUY SOME BALSA WOOD

I am looking to buy some balsa wood to make up some new pieces of tackle. Does anyone know of any shops north of the river which might stock it?

Many thanks, Colin Hay

FIRST CATCH FOR "SALMON ANDY"

SHERBS and I decided to visit a local beach to try our luck with the resident school of salmon.

This young fellow, who later identified himself as Andy from Thailand, decided to stop and watch Sherbs in action and son had the thrill of his life when Steve hoked him up with a nice little salmon. It was the first fish he had ever caught and he was really happy.

Good onya Sherbs for introducing the joys of fishing to another young bloke.

As for ourselves, the salmon hunting was hampered by some local swimmers and surfers who decided that where we wanted to fish was the best place to be - deespite there being no waves.

They finally moved on when the sun set and we managed to finally get into some fish.

Sherbs picked up a nice little flatty, a rock cod and a small bream.

I eventually got my mojo back and picked up a pair of small tailor and a herring. Interestingly, the herring swam past my bait and grabbed the "popper" on a surf popper rig.

It was a beautiful evening, with just enough sea breeze to make it interesting.

All the best, Colin Hay

Fishing rules

Just a reminder that there are a heap of new rules that took effect from Jan 1.

check out the fisheries website for them all.

http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/pub/WestLimits/westcoast_rules_2008.pdf

just a reminder now the weather is starting to change and we can get our boats out more and more.

Boat Trailer Hire

Hey all,

Just wondering if there is any mob out there who does trailer hire for boats or if someone would like to lend us theirs for a week? A mate and his mate are heading up to Exmouth with us on April 24th but his boat has no trailer and is moored in mosman bay. His boat is a haines hunter 680 encore with 225 evinrude so idealy would need a trailer to be able to handle this boat, could arrange a few hundred dollars and a carton and leave your boat on his mooring for the week if interested?

Pm if interested or call John on 0424157801, also any names or numbers of trailer hire places would be great!

Cheers Pete

banax reel

Hi

Ive got a banax overhead reel for sale.

To be ohnest I dont know too much about the brand, I bought the reel in Singapore a couple of months ago as a cheaper reel I could leave at work without fear of it being pinched.

I have found a link to an ebay listing of the same reel for more info if it helps....

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Banax-Tracker-30L-Multiplier-Baitcasting-Fishing-Reel_W0QQitemZ320333761542QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item320333761542

The one I have is loaded with 40Lb mono as I have used it while moving the rig as a trauling setup.

Unfortunately I have to say its never caught a fish, the airation and wash created by the rig moving through the water really disrupts the lures and you have to let out say 500metres to get back far enough into better water. So the trauling behind the rig idea was a bit of a waste of time.

Anyway Im open to offers on it, I dont expect too much for it.

The catch is Im away working for another 4 weeks so whoever wants it will have to wait for me to get home with it then.

Have a good one,

Kane

Dhuie's Max Size

Just wondering how big Dhuie's actually grow to.

Does anybody know?

The reason I ask is that I saw one caught that weighed in at 23kg over the weekend, cany say I have ever seen one that big before.

Cheers Steve

getting new pair polaroids - lense colour?

Previously I got the bronze lenses (spotters) and they were awesome, but I'm wondering if there is any benifit to getting the mirrored versions in blue or whatever for off-shore fishing rather than the bronze lenses? I've also red rose works well in flats type fishing.

What does everbody else wear? Not so much worried about brands, more the lense colours.

salmon reports

Has any one heard about any salmon being caught yet in Augusta busselton or windy harbour yet or to early.

cheers Ethan

Aquaculture Help

Hey All,

Currently in the process of stocking the large soak (5000m2) on our property.

At this stage I am planning on stocking with Silver Perch and Marron. I have read all that I can find on the internet and am just about ready to start doing some trials...

Has anyone been down this path before, have any advice, relevant contacts etc.

Any assistance appreciated :)

Cheers,

Pete

General Casting and Fish Handling Gloves

First of all who uses gloves when fishing? Was thinking of getting some for jigging, popping and mainly spinning but also for when handling the fish. Can anyone suggest something? Full glove or fingerless design?

Opinions welcome

Cheers

What a Crap Day!

Managed to get an early moring fish in on Saturday morning at Flat Rock. A couple of nice Tailor and some herring for the smoker. Rest of the weekend has been chores and business. It seems like a decade since I last fished already. Today, apart from a visit to City Farmers and some maintenance om my Wife's computer, all I want to do is FISH! Hmmmmmm... maybe a trip to 2-Rocks for a bit of casting off the end of the wall..... What do you guys suggest as a remedy?

3 mile

Going to go up to 3 mile moore river this afternoon and chase some tailor if there isnt too much weed for any one interested we will be meeting at the groin car park about 3pm for an afternoon/evening fish. I have a spare seat or 2 in my car as well. pm me for more details

Another Heartland handle upgrade

I recently had a Diawa RCS knob put on my 3000 Heartland.

I thought I might post up a picture to show a comparison to the one Matt has placed on his reel.

All the best, Colin Hay

Yabbies as bait

Anybody use freshwater yabbies for bait in saltwater????

Im thinking of using them(tails and whole) in leu of prawns for whiting/skippy/herring.

These are well too small to eat.
