FIRST CATCH FOR "SALMON ANDY"
Submitted by Colin Hay on Fri, 2009-03-06 09:29SHERBS and I decided to visit a local beach to try our luck with the resident school of salmon.

This young fellow, who later identified himself as Andy from Thailand, decided to stop and watch Sherbs in action and son had the thrill of his life when Steve hoked him up with a nice little salmon. It was the first fish he had ever caught and he was really happy.
Good onya Sherbs for introducing the joys of fishing to another young bloke.
As for ourselves, the salmon hunting was hampered by some local swimmers and surfers who decided that where we wanted to fish was the best place to be - deespite there being no waves.
They finally moved on when the sun set and we managed to finally get into some fish.
Sherbs picked up a nice little flatty, a rock cod and a small bream.

I eventually got my mojo back and picked up a pair of small tailor and a herring. Interestingly, the herring swam past my bait and grabbed the "popper" on a surf popper rig.
It was a beautiful evening, with just enough sea breeze to make it interesting.
All the best, Colin Hay

Sunday Weather
Submitted by Stevef on Thu, 2009-03-05 19:42probably still a bit early, but how is everyone seeing the weather for Sunday.
The forecast was spot on yesterday, but typically it is changing rapidly. The early morning forecast is for stronger winds now, with a later drop off.
Monday and Tuesday are looking special, but Murphy's Law being what it is I will be away over east.
Interested in your thoughts
Steve
p.s. Might be in the market for a deckie sunday, if anyone is interested.

Boat Trailer Hire
Submitted by Adonis on Thu, 2009-03-05 09:37Hey all,
Just wondering if there is any mob out there who does trailer hire for boats or if someone would like to lend us theirs for a week? A mate and his mate are heading up to Exmouth with us on April 24th but his boat has no trailer and is moored in mosman bay. His boat is a haines hunter 680 encore with 225 evinrude so idealy would need a trailer to be able to handle this boat, could arrange a few hundred dollars and a carton and leave your boat on his mooring for the week if interested?
Pm if interested or call John on 0424157801, also any names or numbers of trailer hire places would be great!
Cheers Pete

banax reel
Submitted by kane on Wed, 2009-03-04 03:43Hi
Ive got a banax overhead reel for sale.
To be ohnest I dont know too much about the brand, I bought the reel in Singapore a couple of months ago as a cheaper reel I could leave at work without fear of it being pinched.
I have found a link to an ebay listing of the same reel for more info if it helps....
The one I have is loaded with 40Lb mono as I have used it while moving the rig as a trauling setup.
Unfortunately I have to say its never caught a fish, the airation and wash created by the rig moving through the water really disrupts the lures and you have to let out say 500metres to get back far enough into better water. So the trauling behind the rig idea was a bit of a waste of time.
Anyway Im open to offers on it, I dont expect too much for it.
The catch is Im away working for another 4 weeks so whoever wants it will have to wait for me to get home with it then.
Have a good one,
Kane

getting new pair polaroids - lense colour?
Submitted by HuggyB on Mon, 2009-03-02 19:49Previously I got the bronze lenses (spotters) and they were awesome, but I'm wondering if there is any benifit to getting the mirrored versions in blue or whatever for off-shore fishing rather than the bronze lenses? I've also red rose works well in flats type fishing.
What does everbody else wear? Not so much worried about brands, more the lense colours.

Yabbies as bait
Submitted by LandyAndy on Sun, 2009-03-01 17:19Anybody use freshwater yabbies for bait in saltwater????
Im thinking of using them(tails and whole) in leu of prawns for whiting/skippy/herring.
These are well too small to eat.
