Harlequin size limit
Submitted by Uluabuster on Thu, 2013-07-04 07:57Hi All,
Can someone advise what's the size limit for harlequin fish ? Don't seem to be able to find in the rec fishing guide. It is classed together with the demersal cods for bag limit but not much written on minimum size.
Thanks

electric reels
Submitted by seadog-1967 on Wed, 2013-07-03 01:23gday fellow fisho,s,just after some experienced advice again and you lot seem to be pretty helpful ,just a few questions about electric reels.Q are there any particular brands to hunt down? Are there any brands that have been labelled lemons, could anyone recommend a good mid range reel capable of fishing depths of 300 to 500 metres with a spool capacity of approx. 800mtr,s of 80lb braid how long do they last,by that I ask, would 5years plus be asking to much, its usage would be as regular as most fishos I would think ,and finally my local tackle shop has a package deal for $1300 consisting of a "Kaigan 1000,1000 mtrs of braid and a heavy duty boat rod,how does that sound,i,m asking as I simply believe you cant beat experienced advice, cheers seadog

Sub Aquatic
Submitted by catch.fish on Tue, 2013-07-02 19:43Had a go at building a web page the other day, ended up pretty stoked with the end result so decided to keep going with it for now.
I've called it Sub Aquatic and the idea is to feature cool surfing, fishing and diving videos. I noticed a lot of guys who are into fishing, surfing or diving are generally interested in all three and there's not many central places to find new vids without hours of trawling youtube \ vimeo. I'll be updating it each week with some cool new vids!
Check it out at: www.sub-aquatic.com
Hope this isn't against any rules as it's not in competition with fishwrecked at all - there's no forum and its not selling anything it's just links to some cool youtube vids purely for entertainment.
Once the main home page loads up try clicking anywhere on the background to flip through a few really cool backgrounds, should be a killer shot of a sailfish jumping that's just thrown the hooks. Hope you guys like it!
Still tweaking it so any feedback, thoughts or ideas appreciated. Cheers!

The new runabout - Barcrusher
Submitted by Piggy on Tue, 2013-07-02 16:53Gday fellas
just thort I would share some pics of my new rig, I previously discussed the Ali boats in the forum and after taking most of the Ali boats including Genesis, Assassin, Coraline for a test drive in rough condition none of them compared to the ride of the barcrusher!
The only bad points on the barcrusher is that they look ugly and the semi hardtop design is pretty crappy..... But I was willing to sacrifice looks and the hardtop design for a better ride and more stable boat when fishing..... All in all I am extremely happy with the decision and would not change a thing!
the boat has a 150 yami four stroke, hds 10, deck wash, live bait tank all plumbed, 270 litre fuel tank, VHF and 27mgh radios, iPod ready stereo and heaps more!!
Went out on the first trip and god a small dhuie to christen the boat!! Hope there are many more fish to come.
Cheers

Ocean Reef fishing from a dinghy
Submitted by Poppy on Tue, 2013-07-02 12:47Hi fellow fishers. We have recently moved from Thornlie to Craigie and am interested in fishing out of Ocean Reef Marina. My boat is a 4.5m f/glass dinghy and because of it's lack of size, I don't go out too far as a rule. I mainly target bread and butter fish like whiting etc. I know absolutely nothing of this area and am after any information about likely whiting spots. I have a reasonable Lowrance sounder and usually fish for them in about 20+ metres. But where do I find likely ground up this way. Also, are there any hazards that I should be aware of once I leave the ramp? Any information will be accepted with much appreciation.
Cheers
Baz

Compact Camera Reviews / Opinions
Submitted by Bodie on Tue, 2013-07-02 10:13Am looking for a new compact camera for a couple of different purposes,
The missus and I are heading on a 6 week holiday through Europe in 6 weeks time and im also chasing a convenient camera for taking out on the boat. Needs to be a tough water proof camera to handle the elements (Everything can get wet on a centre console!)
Am a little bit over dragging the DSLR out with me, a little too big to cart around on the boat at times, as well as not suitable to carry around through Europe.
Have been looking at the Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2, anyone have one of these and could comment on the quality, usability of this camera? Basically a click and shoot camera with a few alternate features for taking a more crisp / clean picture (IE to frame)
Anyone have any other brands they would recommend?
Cheers

Friday Forecast?? and hillarys help
Submitted by dant on Tue, 2013-07-02 08:04Gday All,
Just wondering what to make of Fridays forecast at the moment, Seabreeze looks sht (2.5m swell with 15kn est), but willy weather and BOM look to be ok (seas up to 1 metre, swell 1 -1.5m and 10kn to variable easterlys).
Still very cautious when Easterly are predicted because they are usually stronger than predicted, hence my hesitation on going out deeper. i have a 6.5m glass.
Anyone thinking of heading out on friday?
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Cheers All once again.

fishing around perth
Submitted by Tim1511 on Mon, 2013-07-01 22:09hey guys I've posted 2 contents about this sort of thing and the help and advice I got was awesome unfortunately I still haven't caught anything. Anyway I was hoping if I get maybe get some advice or spots of roughly where I should be fishing. I've probably been out about 30-35 times in the past 2 years and I don't know why but I can never catch dhuies ,snapper ,Baldachin Groper, blackarse and fish like that. I haven't even caught any undersized ones or even any Sargent baker plenty of wrasse though. I'm out fishing normally by about 6.00-7.00 am I have spent about $3000 on this hobby and that's a lot for me cause iam only young. Anyway I have fished all around rotto, 3 mile, ocean reef and near hale reef road and never caught anything good and I am starting to get really frustrated. I normally fish in around 30 m of water and use bait and soft plastics any advice would be great thanks

need a bit of advice
Submitted by petermac on Mon, 2013-07-01 18:33I bought some stuff at my local boat shop that is supposed to prevent corrosion/electrolysis between different materials such as stainless steel and ali. when I bought this stuff it cost $28 for a syringe of it and they told me it would develop a skin but wouldn't completely harden. I coated the s/s screws when I mounted my new radio but it is still tacky after 5 days. can any 1 recommend any thing else

Live Bait
Submitted by salmonwanter on Mon, 2013-07-01 15:51I go fishing regularly on Busselton Jetty but I really want to start going for bigger fish and not just the small stuff.
I recently bought a big reel put heavy line on it. I have everything to catch big fish but I need to learn how to catch live bait. (I even bought an aerator for the live baits and no I'm not rich).
The bait catcher from BCF didn't work so how do I use them.
Any tips on what to use to catch them?
Do I use the bait catcher rig or baits?
Where on the jetty?
How long will the baits survive?
Thankyou

Prawning and Scallops
Submitted by jdavies_99 on Mon, 2013-07-01 11:48Hi guys,
I am looking to expand my horizons on fishing and try new things.
I was hoping I could get some tips and guidelines on how to get prawns in the swan and some scallops in the sound if possible.
Have never tried either so any base advise would be appreciated from where is best to go, what sort of gear works and what time of the year/conditions you would best to go out in.
I have a 45ft game boat plus a trailerable boat so I can access most areas.
I heard a rumour that people trawl nets in the swan for prawns? is that true?
Thanks
J

Noise and snapper
Submitted by Noxious on Mon, 2013-07-01 07:57I notice a lot of people are under the staunch belief that they must be crouching tiger hidden dragon to not make a whisper of a noise when snapper fishing, as to not scare away the fish.
I personally think it makes no difference, I just go about no normal business.
What are people's thoughts?

Cockburn hazard?
Submitted by Spitfire56 on Sun, 2013-06-30 20:43Hello everyone, decided to go for a fish in Cockburn Sound on Fiday chasing a Snapper or 2, started at a secret spot (d9!) the night was dead calm. Whilst fishing at night we encountered something I have never come across and potentially a risk to smaller craft.
We were passed by two big tug boats at relatively close range kicking up a wake which hit us side on at anchor. Obviously this happens often when boats pass however as the 2 followed each other they created several breaking waves at least 1.5m +high and very close together tossing the boat violently to the point where I felt if in a lesser boat we would have taken on water and potentially sunk, or if we didn't hear the waves rolling in could have fallen over or out.
I have been around boats my whole life and understand the usual wake of a boat or a ship but this was like when a tsunami kicks up to a huge wave in shallow water and then the waves build up, or when swell breaks on reef. Wondered if anyone else saw, felt these waves on Friday as there where a few other boats near by? My boat is a 5 .75 m glass, however I would have worried in a smaller boat and given the conditions wouldn't have expected these sort of waves from a couple of tugs!
Anyway just something to think about/watch out for. By the way caught a few small gummys and a couple of squid,no snapper
