The right line
Submitted by jaket on Sat, 2016-04-30 22:15What is everyone's safe recommendations on line strength for mackies, tuna etc around the north coast of WA and bottom fish in 30-40m of water? Is 30lb sufficient without being too light? Also how much length do you want on your reel?

More crab plunderers caught
Submitted by meglodon on Fri, 2016-04-29 16:45Fisheries have caught more people plundering the local stocks of crabs.
Mandurah Mail reports on page 3 that a trio will face court next month, messes Mingyin Ng, Ming Fe Wu and Duncan Sun have been caught by Fisheries doing the wrong thing.
It will be interesting to see just what they were up to when they appear in court again on the 20th of may.
Well done Fisheries keep up the score rate and maybe just maybe the message will get through to these bastards.

Dhufish Plaques
Submitted by Oceanside Tackle on Fri, 2016-04-29 13:29Recently shop owner Ryan Thipthorp went to Jurien for a fishing holiday. Whilst he was there he noticed they had a special market event on.
On a quick look through something caught his immediate attention. It was a Corona Dhufish plaque ha ha and another version also. Straight away Ryan wanted to buy them but they make them to order.
Ryan gave them a deposit and a few weeks later they were ready to be picked up. The small business is called Matrina's Mosaics and whilst Matrina has a holiday house in Jurien she lives in Perth.
These dhufish plaques are very unique and a lot of attention to detail goes into each one. They look so much better in the hand and they are covered with a special coating to allow you to have it outdoors if required.
The fish plaques are roughly 550mm (length) X 350mm (width). These 2 models are called Corona Dhufish and Standard Dhufish. They sell for $100 upwards and if you want one or more info then call Martina on #0414 787 832 (Let her know you've seen this post and she will look after you)
Ps,We don't sell them instore and we're only doing this as the fish plaques are very unique and maybe other fisho's would like to purchase.

Last Minute Steep Point Trip Report
Submitted by noords on Wed, 2016-04-27 15:41With weather looking questionable at the Abrolhos over the Anzac weekend i made the last minute call to push further north than originally planned to Steep Point.
Deckies were a little hard to come by but at thursday lunch I managed to lock down one mate and one random from "Perth Beer Economy" to acconompany me for a Thursday evening departure from Perth / (all going well) Monday noon return. A bit of a lightning trip with 18 hours of driving for just two days on board the chivers, but that's what you get when you're at the mercy of the weather gods I guess.
After packing most of my shed into the boot of the Jeep we hitched on the boat and were off, fortunately the drive up went better than expected, swagging just outside of Northampton and getting going early to arrive at Denham by 10:30. After navigating Denhams version of "Pek Hour" we loaded up 400L of fuel in the boat and we were set to depart for Shelter Bay. The crossing over was an absolute delight, compare to the previous two trips on an open topped 19ft star the 23ft Chivers was a breeze and the red cans were cracked before noon. Once arrived we set the boat up for some fishing and headed out to Monkey rock where previously we had been quite successful picking up pinkies, red throats and baldies.
It was at this point that 48 hours of extrememly unsuccesfull fishing begun.. We bottom bounced and trolled and attemped to dive for the next two days for but had a veyr hard time catching any decent fish. Mostly undersize pinkies and a couple of red throats was a depressing site opening the esky to fish out the beers (which were easy to find at least).
On the morning of the last day i insisted at the point of mutiny that we persist with fishing in 100m and low and behold we hit (what felt like) the motherload off of a single lump. The furuno 620 wasn't showing any fish but the 5m drop from 95 to 100 over about 10m in otherwise barren ground was enough for us to drop the handlines in for a crack. From here we managed to pull in a couple of small reds (a first for the boat), two gold band (also a first) and 5 yellow spotted rock cod which i am yet to try but am told are pretty decent on the chew. The lures went out for the drive back into south passage with no success unfortunately but all in all a fantastic trip with amazing weather and one of our best hauls yet.
Most surpsingly was that the Jeep managed to tow the big girl 1600km's without a single issue (other than soft shitty american suspension that has the headlights pointing at the moon but the new suspension kit is ready to go to sort that one out).

Carnavon stopover
Submitted by Boppo on Wed, 2016-04-27 14:41Doing an Exxy trip soon. No rush this time. After a decent stop over in Carnarvon for a night that has secure parking for a 5 m boat.
Been about 15 years since I did that. Back then the Fascine(spell?) Lodge was the go.
Any suggestions?

I am looking to pick up some solar panels to run my Waeco CF 50L for camping trips up to a month at a time but usually around 2 weeks.
Would anybody be able to advise what sized solar panels and battery I should be chasing for this and the best place to source them?

Anyone have a spear gun I can borrow?
Submitted by Swompa on Tue, 2016-04-26 15:31Howdy Team,
Headed up to Shark Bay next week and slowing making our way south over the following three weeks and I am hoping to borrow a small spear gun whilst away?
Never done it before as when we dive it is normally with a snare for crayfish so I am not after anything too complicated so if anyone has something I could possibly borrow for the period, it would be fantastic.
I would obviously pay for any damage I caused, or replacement if I was to lose or destroy it.
Live in Thornlie
Cheers

Boat sank in Warnbro Sound - Sunday 24 April
Submitted by rigpig on Tue, 2016-04-26 13:41I haven't seen anything in the papers but I witnessed a boat sink in Warnbro Sound on Sunday while we were taking my inflatable for a test run.
My girlfriend and her son were on the inflatable just out the front of the beach launch ramp to the East of Bent Street and I observed an orange smoke flare go off way out in the middle of the sound. I got my ladies attention and got her son off the inflatable and told her to go out to a fishing boat about 200m offshore (a maroon Surtees) and tell them as they were facing the shore. Half way out to them a rocket flare went up and that got their attention and they raced out there. As they left their fishing spot the boat in distress went under and disappeared. The Surtees picked the one person up and made their way to bent street as the Rockingham Sea Rescue came around Penguin Island.
The guy in the boat was apparently ok but I have no other details. I can only assume that the guy on the Surtees did a GPS mark of where it went down for recovery purposes.
That's all I have..

Dampier/ Pt Samson squid
Submitted by Yewiefish85 on Tue, 2016-04-26 12:16Hi guys, hoping someone can give me some pointers, heading down to Karratha on the weekend (from Hedland) for my son's footy (junior rugby league), we don't get too many squid here and was wondering if there is a good chance of getting a couple of squid off the rocks either at Dampier or Pt Samson or would I be better off towing my tinny down?
Cheers Yewie
Band splitter
Submitted by rj on Mon, 2016-04-25 21:02Does any one on here use a band splitter. I am upgrading the electrics in my boat and am getting a new GME GX700w, I also was lucky enough to win a GME 9600 CD player/am/fm radio. My question is, will a band splitter work? I don't want any interference as safety is paramount to me as I take my little fella out with me now, or am I better off getting 2 aerials. Also I like the idea of the quick connect aerials that GME have - are they good to go or is there a better option I should be looking at.
Cheers

Salmon invasion
Submitted by fisharoo on Mon, 2016-04-25 20:19Just wondering on your thoughts. Everyone's got to agree that this salmon run has been crazy this few weeks. I managed to hit one of these schools in the river and there were hundreds of them in that pack. As I was netting one of them I saw it regurgitate a couple of what I thought was small baby bream, along with the usual mulies. Not that I'm complaining as it was awesome tangling with these torpedos on light gear. But as they move further up river, smashing everything they can eat, can it possibly effect the population of the other species? Read somewhere in the forum that they were in the canning river too.
Hope that they start eating blowies too:)

Had a few spots anticipated for dhus crays and the like and the onset of river prawns.
At least i can focus on beer consumption and ancillary/miscellaneous house chores
