Hillarys night parking
Submitted by docp1980 on Sun, 2016-05-22 17:31Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows whether the parking inspectors operate at night at Hillarys? I have a yearly pass for Ocean Reef, but not keen to park there for late night sessions.
Cheers,
Matt

Where are the pelagics
Submitted by Paul_86 on Sat, 2016-05-21 00:03Gday everyone,
I'm thinking about taking a few days off work soon to coincide with a weekend and some good weather, if I'm lucky enough for those things to line up then where should I head for my best shot at some pelagics from a boat? Anywhere from Perth to Exmouth is within my reach.
I've done a lot of trolling hours in Perth the last 6 months chasing larger pelagics but could only find small tuna, so I'm still hooked on trolling but want to tango with something a bit bigger.
I would love to chase mackies/tuna/cobia/wahoo/bills etc
I got the gear and a bit of an idea, so just after opinions on where the pelagics have been firing or where my best chances are.
I only have a 5m boat so the Abrolhos is out of the question, but I often fish the fads in Perth so happy to do a few miles from the main land in search of quality fish if conditions allow.
Call me crazy, but so far I'm considering steep point, or Exmouth/Murions. Weather dependent of course.
Might also be chasing a decky if I can't convince a mate to come with me.
Cheers Paul

SHARK BAY 1 WEEK IN MAY 2016
Submitted by Pedro the fisherman on Thu, 2016-05-19 16:19HI All
we had a week in shark bay from Sat the 7th to sat 14th
saturday arvo -windy no fishing
sunday all day -windy no fishing
monday gear ready boat loaded -windy no fishing
tuesday wind dropped headed up to peron for a look caught 2 massive golden trevally and some odd sorts of fish.We went across to Dampier Reef some pinkys red thoat and 2 baldies .Then the wind came in and it was slow going at 9-11 knots for 40 odd mile back to denham at 11pm ouch sore and fuel bill wow.
wednesday the crows were calling and woke up to glass headed out to steep awsome conditions got a reasonable feed out in the 90s home just on dark and it was like glass.I got the WOODUCK hat nw blowie while the others caught reds.
thursday the same flat as up to turtle bay and around cape inscription found ground in the 70-80m mark and it was a hot bite big reds to 7.5kg rankins also solid i hooke something on the electric that nearly pulled the back of the cat around before it broke the surface and spat the squid /not a shark maybe because of speed we think saily or marlin and all hooks and bait still attached then trolled back only to have Steve hook up something solid that tore 150-200m of 37 kg in about 20-30 seconds and parted on the backing line we called that a horse tuna .
friday back up to turtle out the front in the 60s and across to dampier reef found a patch of big pinkies some rankin a couple of reds ...NOTE TO ONESELF DAMPIER REEF CAN PRODUCE SWELLS FROM NOWHERE ... into 12 m caught cobia on jig some coral cod on jig another baldy some red throat etc.5pm headed back on glassy seas ..FILLET FISH beerrs bed then headed home in the morning ..
all in all good for the few days we wet a line, drank beers took the piss had a blast cheers to JIMBO / BIG Q / STEEEVVVE

Semi deep
Submitted by Jmac on Wed, 2016-05-18 18:17Thought I might ask what people catch in the depths between average dhuie drifting ground of 50m depth and deep drop country of 300 plus?
I have cought pinkys at 80m but never bothered deeper.
the deep drop crew seem to talk of really deep water but what about between say 80 to 200m?
heading out from two rocks tomorrow and might try deeper than usual.
cheers

Heading out of Two rocks in 3-3.5m swells ?dangerous
Submitted by beeroclock on Wed, 2016-05-18 11:56Was thinking of heading out of Two rocks this sunday arvo, wind predicted to drop right off but swells still 3-3.5m. Ive gone out of there heaps of times in 2-2.5m swell and it was OK at end of lead line where it gets to 9m deep, still had to watch for one or two that came up a bit quicker but what about 3-3.5m swells? too risky? if so do you guys think Mindarie may be a better option? any advice appreciated cheers Dave

Repairing an Ali dinghy
Submitted by Bonito bonito on Tue, 2016-05-17 19:58Hi all,
up in coral bay with a very small 3mtr Ali dingy.
One of the base plates is coming away at the welded seam along the keel.
not great obviously and leaking pretty badly.
Does anyone have experience fixing this kind of issue?
I spoke to a welder in exmouth but he said it might cost as much as I paid for it(500) and that I would be better 'bogging ' it up as many he rapaired before have come back leaking again.
I would appreciate any advice on the issue, best options/ products or processes for fixing.
on a side note anyone needing and experienced deckhand this week in coral bay please let me know:)
thanks

Montebello Islands 2016 - Who wants to come?
Submitted by Compleat Nedlands on Tue, 2016-05-17 15:49For most anglers, there are few places on their wish list that compare to the Montebello Islands off the Western Australian coast. Fairly remote, teeming with fish and home to a wide range of species, this is a must for all serious anglers. We at Compleat Angler Nedlands, have managed to secure a trip in July this year (6th to 14th) for 8 customers with Blue Lightning Charters. Normally, the 7 day trip will be $3350 per person, but this one will be $2950 each. Some spots have already gone, so please be quick if you want any more information - message us on here, or contact the shop, Compleat Angler Nedlands (08 93891337 or ). Blue Lightning Charters is run with Chad Mills, seriously one of the best charter operators around, and they have 2 boats for the trip - a 55' Deep Sea Conquest and a 26' Boston Whaler. Fishing includes GT fishing with poppers and stickbaits, jigging, bottom bouncing and trolling as well as some shore work from the islands as well. Please contact us if you would like to put your name down or for more information!

fishing etiquette/report
Submitted by sparrow on Tue, 2016-05-17 06:38I'd like to get other boaties opinions on somehting that happened yesterday.
First day fishing up here in Coral bay, wind and swell up a little but good enough to get out to a few closer spots in (within 5kts of passage).
We had been drifting across a spot for an hour or so when a boat came over and set up a drift about 60-70maway from us. We figured they probably had spots around so were not too fussed although thought perhaps they could have tried somewhere not so close.
Anyway, they ended up moving soon after about 200m away and did a couple of drifts, all the while we continued to go over the same spot we had been at for quite a while now.
A few minutes later the boat came back to where we were, only this time they set up their drift EXACTLY on our drift line. I went to re set the drift and was not able to as they were dead on it. We politly let them know our thoughts and had our bag on reds a couple for minutes later so called it.
What are peoples thoughts on this? i know i would not go close to another boats drift even if i did have spots where they were fishing but maybe im too kind.
On another note fishing was good, bighting all day and caught a Robinson that went 66cm which i haven't seen too many that size so day 1 a success!

When it comes to servicing your outboard engine or jet ski, it is vital this is completed by fully qualified, diligent and thorough technicians. From dropping off your vessel through to collection, we guarantee that your pride and joy is in the best possible hands. As a specialized Yamaha WaveRunner and Marine Outboard dealership, we do not service in-board engines or stern drives, and our staff have many years of experience dedicated purely to jet skis and outboards engines.

Although we specialize in Yamaha WaveRunner service and repairs, we also service and repair Seadoo and Kawasaki personal watercraft.
Your jet ski should be serviced at least once every 12 months, or after every fifty hours of use, whichever comes first (note: average use for a jet ski in Perth is around 50 hours). With a new jet ski, Yamaha require you to complete a '10 hour' run-in service, there after every 50 hours or every 12 months (please check your owners log book for further information).

Only an Authorized Yamaha dealership can offer you factory trained technicians, who are kept up to date with the latest service information and safety and maintenance guidelines for your Yamaha Marine product. You may think that having highly trained technicians work on your ski is expensive, however this is not the case. Fish id
Submitted by rossco21 on Mon, 2016-05-16 10:24 Hi guys just after some of your thoughts. A mate of mine is away up Exmouth way with his wife. They caught and id'd this fish as a dark tail snapper. When I was having a look through some pics I had my doubts as to if it was a dark tail. I know the paddle tail are caught a bit higher up the coast but to me it looks closer to one of them which your not meant to eat with that ciguatoxin carrier. Just after your opinions on what you think.
