Best rod and reel combo for bottom bouncing

Hi guys,

Just starting to get back into fishing and am wanting to upgrade my gear. I am chasing a rod and reel combo to chase snapper, Dhui's small sambo's and anything else that may be sniffing around. probably want to spend around the $400 range.

any info would be awesome

Good start to the Season

Had a great day out today. First day of the demersal season. 4 crays on the way out (7 day pull) & a beautiful 77 cm Dhuie. A lovely light west wind to stir up the fish. Its nearly always a good day for fishing at Mandurah when the witch of the west comes stealin.

Now I know there are plenty of guys on this site who catch dhuies regularly. But for me it's a rare prize. 2 or 3 a year.

Swan crabs

 Hey guys !

Any news on the crabs in the river at the moment

Would like to give them a crack this arvo

cray pots in exmouth

hi all,

heading up to exmouth over xmas an wondering if its worth taking the cray pots up there.

i  see there are reds there, not sure if in numbers and if many people catch them in pots up there.

any suggestions or lickley areas to try would be great .

i also see on fishers no pots aloud around the murions islands , are there any more no pot ares (exept sancurary zones)

or is it a waist of time and leave the pots at home (could fit a few more ctns beer in there space lol )

cheers lee

Has anyone tried the newTantabiddi Boat Ramp, Exmouth and verdict?

Hi guys and girls doing my due diligence for a trip to Exmouth in May taking up a large fibreglass boat if you have tried the new ramp out at Tantabiddi how was it anything to watch out for beyond strong winds and a very low tide.

Cheers and beers for the festive season

Metro Fishing

Hi Guys,

Im fresh to this forum and noticed there wasnt a thread for general chit chat catching in the metro perth area? If there is one and i've overlooked it please link me to it but I think it would be nice to have a running thread with how the Perth beach and river are fishing.

Im heading out for a flick off the Point walter flats and can hopefully update this thread in hopes that its a constant source of where and what species is fishing well.

Cheers

CHIRP - is it better than an FCV 295

Will be installing new electronics on the new tug once it arrives, and the difficult choice of sounder is the issue.....

The boat has a Garmin 740S GPS/sounder/radar touchscreen combo, which I will probably use for a backup, but nowhere near big or good enough as the main unit.

I have always used Raymarine, so was leaning to the new E125 with the 450 CHIRP module and M265LH CHIRP tranny. But I am just not sure if I will be paying top dollar for s gimmick, when I could put in an old skool FCV 295 and conventional 1 or 2 kW tranny and know it would be great.

I love the Raymarine ease of use, and find the Furuno stuff a bit clunky, but no doubt Furuno have had the best Sounders up until now.

What about the Simrad NSS 12? Looks pretty good. Anyone used these with conventional and/or CHIRP?

On trannies, also considering through hull B175's, as I am still unsure if I can shoot through the Boston whaler conquest 235 hull with the M265 tranny effectively. They have a specific transducer area moulded into the hull with no foam, but I have read on the hull truth that it is thick and design for through hull (drill a hole jobbies), not shoot through....... But the new chirp shoot throughs are meant to be much less affected than the old M260 shoot through......

So many options........

Not gonna be cheap!

Broken Down rigger advise

Hi guys  ran into a bit of a problem on the weekend , well a cray pot to tell the truth .I was trollin round rottness for a mack or tuna and had the down rigger ( canon digi troll 10 ) at about 10m deep and hit a cray pot rope which caused the down rigger to peel out wire so we stopped reversed up and i started to bring the down rigger up and it sounded under load but not struggling to much then all of a sudden it completely shut off nothing on the screen no power at all so i had to hand pull up the last few metres . Just wondering if anyone knows if they have a overload fuse or something that would cause this because im heading to kalbarri in a week and would love not to send it away for repairs any info would be much appreciated as i cant find my manual . (ps the cray pots the pros where dropping where in about 20m deep with about 40m of rope preety annoying )

New Boat Rego Question

Stuck cray pot help

 G'day guys,

So I've managed to get 2 cray pots snagged out from ocean reef on the 3 mile, in about 12-14m's of water. I've tried my hardest to unstick them but havnt managed to. So I need a diver to help me get them back. I'm happy to pay for there tanks to be filled or a carton of beer or take you to a few different spots to try get some crays for yourself. I've got a Quintrex 480 coast runner with a small dive ladder off the back. I was hoping to try recover them Sunday morning while the weather is nice.

Any takers?

Weather Sunday

Im still figuring out the weather these days the change of season has left me scratching my head at times! Just wondering what you blokes reckon about the weather for Sunday in bunbury? Do you think there will be much surface chop during the morning? I'm hoping to take my kayak out but chop on the surface caused by wind makes fishing unpleasant. Your opinions greatly appreciated

Surf popper rigs

I am making some surf poppers like Colin Hays ones from Fishwrecked-reeltime, but im unsure of how theyre rigged. Is the surf pooper above the gangs on the main line or the surf pooper below likle this image suggests. I would have thought the popper would be above as it floats, but im not sure.

Suggestions for which charter to take approx 22 clients out on - Pref NOR

Hi All,

As above.

If you had to take 22 of your clients out on a fishing charter NOR (up to Two Rocks) who would you call?

Got a Mate in this predicament right now, and all I have ever been on is charter to about 14 or so MAX, so just wondering what his options are.

Cheers

Sam

Scam

WARNING - Fake/Scam Webstie
Hi Guys
We have come across this website (fishingforsale.com.au) and it appears to be a fake/scam website. The images and content are almost entirely stolen from another online retailer and the 'about us' section makes out it is Australian but doesn't appear to be australian of origin at all. The contact us details have an address in a different state to the phone number and when you look at the 'who is' details, the owners/operaters of the website are different again and have an overseas contact number.

The prices on this website are RIDICULOUSLY cheap but apparently when you order something they ring you up and ask for you to direct transfer money into an account. This is extremely dodgy to have this as the only way of payment and I would say that you would never see that money again or the products you bought.
...

We just thought we would share it on here to make sure no-one gets stung while chasing a Christmas bargain.

Whether it's this website or another, always check out an online retailer before you purchase from it. Make sure it has a real business behind it and only ever do direct deposits with a company that you know and trust.

Boat storage at Exmouth

G'day, I'm heading down to Perth in march. I was thinking of dropping the boat off in Exmouth on the way down and stopping in on the way back for a week of fishing and diving. Does anyone know of anywhere I can safely leave my boat for about 4-5 days? Cheers.

Woodman Point ramp and fishing

Just wondering if anyone had any advice for fishing out of Woodman point? Heading down next week with the family (boys are 5 and 3) and camping, hoping to take the boat and catch a feed of crabs or squid?  It is a 14ft, forward steer ali with flat deck but the sounder is rubbish, only give depth and I use the Navionics app on my phone as the gps plotter.  General advice/locations obviously, don't need the secret spots... Just thinking of packing as light as possible and taking minimal gear. Thanks!
