Wow another awesome day out on the water
Submitted by Lucky Last Cast on Thu, 2012-12-27 12:04Another awesome day out on the water fishing. If anyone is in Jurien Bay atm the boat is due to come in at about 1pm at the marina. Will be landing at the pontoon for anyone that wants to come on down and have a look at the days catch.
I just got told that they boated out again. Will post pics up later when the boys land.
It's amazing that the forecast for today was for thunder and windy a few days ago, yet today it is beautiful. Couldn't have asked for a better day.

Exmouth accommodation
Submitted by timwalden on Thu, 2012-12-27 10:30Hi folks.
I will be travelling on my own from the uk to exmouth in May 2013 for 2 weeks of land based fishing. As I will be on my own I am trying to keep the cost of my accommodation down. I would prefer a room of my own to store all my kit in. So far it looks like the potshot resort is the best option, but it has some bad reviews about how noisy the rooms are because the bar is so close. Can anyone comment or give any other suggestions?
Thanks, Tim

Soft plastics
Submitted by Fish guts on Thu, 2012-12-27 10:23Can anyone please give some insight as to what are the best soft plastics to use for flathead (swan river) and what sort of rig is required to get them. I'm thinking just a jig head but not sure what size hook. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Blue ring occy, popular swimming hole
Submitted by tailor marc on Wed, 2012-12-26 19:00Stayed at rotto last night. First people to the basin for a swim. As i was standing in the middle of the open sandy area a little occy decided to come take shelter around my legs. Wasnt untill it was less than a foot away i realised what type of occy it was WTF!!!! Lucky i had the go pro and got some killa footage. Here are a few screen prints of the video. I was so lucky no to be bitten. Enough venom to kill 25 adults apparently.
We told the right people and they did what the could to get rid of it or shoo it away...
Before it got angry..

I have a question about the snapper ban. i am going to take my dad fishing tomoz, am just wondering can we keep a snapper IF we catch one on the 5 fathom behind covo reef or is this still a no catch zone because its in warnbro sound. any info would be great as he is coming up from northam today. i dont want to do the wrong thing. we have a 4.5m ally runabout so i dont go much further out than that, but would like to catch him a feed.

battery to suit electric reel
Submitted by Cruise Control on Wed, 2012-12-26 11:56G,Day guys, looking for some advice as to what battery I need to run a Miya Epoch CX5. Boat runs twin battery set up but am preferring to run the reel off an independant source.
Do I need a deep cycle battery or a car battery or is there a specific battery pack that is designed for the purpose ? How many hours would I reasonably expect to get out of a battery. I also assume that I simply need to whack it onto a charger to make sure it is topped up and ready for use.
Any advice appreciated.
cheers

Is everyone having this problem or is it just me?
Submitted by scano on Wed, 2012-12-26 08:33How many bloody Sargent bakers are around at present!!
bodie and I went out on Monday for a fish and I was constantly catching double headers of them.
the diving guys on here may know better, is it a sign we are on the wrong ground for Dhuies and baldies ect? Or is there just plague numbers of them at this time of year?
i know they make good Dhuie bait but it would be nice to catch something other than bloody Sargent bakers for the day. They were even eating their own brothers they were that hungry!
our theory is that because of the number of them around our baits then the good fish don't get a chance to have a go at the baits?
so the question is, does anyone else have the same issue at the moment??

Merry Xmas Everyone
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Tue, 2012-12-25 10:34Have now completed the tree change to Pingelly. Loving Xmas day here. Nice cool house, spa and lots of room for the dog to run. Chooks are happy and about to start laying. Sorry I've been a bit quiet but it's been a busy time with the move. It shouldn't be long before I pack the swag and head to the coast.
I hope you all have a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

canal Xmas lights
Submitted by Shane O on Mon, 2012-12-24 20:53Started off with a great night cruising through the canals seeing all the houses done up with the lights and hundreds of boats, some of them with no nav lights. But that's ok, that's where the fun stopped! Back out in the estuary about 8.30pm and heading back to Mary Street lagoon boat ramp, with all the nav lights on. And f##k ME this dickhead in a massive boat and it was called DISTRACTED was coming up behind us and going very fast! We did not have much room to move between us and the beach, he nearly ran us over. I was waving my arms to try and get there attention, they finally went past and made massive waves and wash. The f####ing smart ass and people on board just waved and smiled, what a cocked.

Thanks Oceanside
Submitted by r.gates on Sun, 2012-12-23 22:10Hi all
During my trip to Darwin in July, my brother-in-law struck some trouble with one of his reels, a Penn eggbeater. After making some enquires, I ended up ringing Oceanside to enquire about the parts we needed. I spoke to Blake and explained who I was and what I was chasing, and the order was dispatched. Their supplier was out of stock of the required parts but eventually they arrived and posted to the NT....no hassle, no fuss, just real friendly service.
Anyway, yesterday I was heading to Myaree and as I was also chasing a last minute chrissy present for the boys, I rang the shop and Blake had what I wanted.....as we'd not met before, it would be a good chance to put a face to the name. When I called in, both Ryan and Blake were busy with unpacking new stock, carrying out a stocktake and serving customers, too.
However, both took a little time out for a quick chat and to show me the item I was chasing....all good, just what I was looking for and got a discount for being a FW member.
I just wanted to say thanks guys for the friendly customer service, especially during this busy time ...nice to meet you Blake and to catch up with Ryan again as I hadn't seen him in quite a while.
Although I don't go past the shop very often, knowing that you will always get great service is what sees you going back (either in person or over the phone).
Thanks again guys ![]()
regards

This weekends shark fishing efforts
Submitted by Chris fish on Sun, 2012-12-23 21:23Spent most of this weekend chasing sharks with mixed results. Sat night we got to our spot just after lunch paddled out baits and sat back and waited, first rod went off just after dark and dropped the bait before coming back and a knot failing. The next bait didn't get touched till 3am with something insane taking line at a crazy speed against full drag before biting through 600lb 49 strand wire!!!
Todays effort was mostly because we where bored so out we went again and not long after arriving we have 2 baits 3-500m out. Hour later the 40lb light gear goes off and after an hour fight we got this nice 2.3m bronzie up, few quick photo and he was on his way again.
