What's your Favourite old reel and is it worth $$$ now a days?
Submitted by max199 on Tue, 2007-07-03 18:24I've seen a few reels in my time and have used some excellent and not so excellent ones. One of my favourite reels was the SHIMANO BANTUM 500 and caught some big Pinkies in South Oz (Tapely Shoals). Well my old Man doesn't know that. What's yours and what fish did you catch with it?

Drifting.....help!
Submitted by billy chase on Tue, 2007-07-03 17:48Im a bit unsure of what to do when drifting. I thought you use enough lead to keep the bait down on the bottom, but not too heavy to hold the ground. Last time I went fishing we decided to drift and i was told to put more lead on to hold the bottom.
It might sound like a silly question, but doesnt this defeat the purpose of drifting? I thought you would want your bait covering more area whilst drifting? Could anyone tell me the advantages to having enough wait to hold the bottom while drifting?
thanks Heaps.

Frustrations!
Submitted by rickets on Sun, 2007-07-01 10:08Surely, I know there is a similar thread in here asking for stories about people's worst fishing trips...
But its the worst which make good stories... what is more annoying is the pissy little times when you go out and things just go wrong the whole time you're out there, whether on the boat or landbased...
From tangles to knots in places where they arnt meant to be and then snags and wrong bait, to loosing too much line, getting spooled...
arghhh the list goes on.. surely, im not the only one who has bad days... or maybe im just useless and every time I go fishing I spend more time fixing shit than actually fishing. It's starting to really annoy me....
Like seriously, I have a Daiwa CY 2500 which has Nitlon 10lb braid and all it ever wants to flippin do is tangle and knot up....
You dont even have to be rough or try very hard, the thing just tangles and knots up forcing you to snip it, even when you are casting normally....
Maybe I should try some sort of different braid. Fireline has never done this sorta crap. But really, this sorta crap is just enough to annoy you to state that today, was a bad fishing day for me.

The Bear
Submitted by dogsoldier on Sat, 2007-06-30 20:58A bear was chasing a little rabbit.
"Stop running and get back here!" yelled the bear.
"Never!" shouted the rabbit.
As the rabbit was running he tripped on a lamp. His soft furry foot brushed the lamp and out popped a genie.
The genie noticed the frightened rabbit was being chased by the bear.
The genie said to the bear,"Hey! If you stop chasing him I'll grant you and the rabbit both two wishes!"
The bear agreed and was so eager he jumped to go first. He said, "I wish that a had the biggest penis in the world!"
*Poof!* and his wish was granted.
The rabbit went next, "I wish I had a super fast motorcycle!"
*Poof* and the rabbit's wish was granted.
The bear looked at the rabbit and thought, "What a lame wish!"
For his final wish, the bear smirked as he wished that all the other bears in the world were female.
*Poof* his wish was granted.
The rabbit jumped on his motorcycle, revved the engine and laughed.
Just before he booked out of there he said, "I wish the bear was gay!"

Woodman Point!!
Submitted by jangles on Sat, 2007-06-30 18:50Gday all,
Hows everyone coping with fishing these days? I'm heading for some land base fishing and I have'nt been to Woodman Point lately and just hoping to see if anyone has been catching any fish lately out that way? I'm hoping to land some Herring and Garfish but it can be unexpected by me. So I was just wondering if anyone has caught any fish from that platform?
Thanks guys...
Cheers....

Fishing Tomorrow
Submitted by jay_burgess on Sat, 2007-06-30 15:13I had planned to head down to the creek and chuck some soft plastics around but the weather is looking good for tomorrow (should have gone out today) so we're gonna head out and troll for some sailies out from Kendrew Island and when it reaches the top of the tide and the current slows we're gonna check some new ground we marked during the billfish comp.
Will post a report tomorrow.
Light and variable winds with smooth seas. Small long period swell.
Winds: ENE 5 to 7 knots
Seas: WSW 4 feet at 12 sec.
Afternoon
Light winds with a slight chop. Small long period swell.
Winds: NNE 8 to 11 knots
Seas: WSW 5 feet at 13 sec.

Fish Species Info Sites
Submitted by Tim on Thu, 2007-06-28 22:41What web sites do people use for info on fish species.
Im looking for a good site that has info on species like Dhufish, Breaksea Cod, Skippy, Red Snapper etc that are normally encountered in metro waters.
Im trying to find one that covers a wide range of topics from habitat, life span type info to fishing methods etc.
Found some that cover bits and pieces but not one that has the lot.

***NOR v SOR comp postponed until 07/07/07***
Submitted by Andy Mac on Thu, 2007-06-28 19:00I am sure everyone guessed this already but based on the current BOM forcast for this Saturday there is no way we would suggest anyone goes out in that. So we will postpone for yet another week and hope for a fishable day. At ths rate it might well be November before we get the planets to align on a given Saturday and provide us with good boating weather. Saturday: NW winds 25/33 knots with squalls to 45 knots ahead of an early W/SW 20/30 knots change. Winds abating to W/SW 13/18 knots by midday. Winds tending NW'ly 15/20 knots during the evening. Seas 2.0m to 3.0m. Swell 2.0m rising to 3.0m. Keep an eye out for more posts on the comp as we approach 7/7/07 (at least there are lots of lucky numbers in that date). (Hehehe)

Targeting Jacks in Winter
Submitted by jay_burgess on Mon, 2007-06-25 16:23I've done a lot of creek fishing during summer and I've got it pretty sussed out in that regard but I've done bugger all in this department during winter. Perhaps some other pilbara fishwrecked fellas could help me out. I'm wondering if Jacks are a viable target during winter, and if so, what are some tips to encourage them to bite in the cooler months?
