River for Bream

Fished the Mosman Bay, Freshwater Bay areas for bream twice this week. Both times from about mid morning to early arvo and using coral prawns and bass minnows, atomic grubs, even gulp sandworms in camo and blood...

Cant seem to find fish.. I dont know what the hell im doing wrong... maybe im not patient enough but all that we kept landing was blowie after blowie and another blowie....

landed a leatherjacket this morning, (although that woulda been a fluke) and the other day, one undersized bream.....

Theres gotta be something im doing wrong... if one of you sly river fisho's can work it out, ill buy you a beer!

ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WTF IS GOING ON?!?~!? Just cant find them!~

California's attack of the Jumbo Squid

"Ferocious, pack-feeding jumbo squid have invaded waters off California's central coast and are devouring local fish populations. Researchers say global warming and overfishing are likely to blame."

Filleting Knives

Does anyone purchase filleting knives online? I have a good 6 inch blade and about an 8 inch one but they are very thin and a little too flexible for my liking at the moment. I'm looking for something around the 9 inch range but to be 2-3 inch deep and have good strength for cutting through the tougher stuff. I would ultimately like to buy online because there aren't too many cheap options up here in Exmouth. I've had a bit of a look at ebay stores in the U.S but the postage is almost three times as much as the knife. I'm looking between the $40 and $100 mark and any advice re- knife or where to purchase would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Adam

Tax time... what are you going to buy??

Just did my tax return on e-tax last night and looks like I'll be getting a pretty nice sum. Although most of it will be going towards Rowley Shoals 2008 trip I think a nice little Calcutta TE200GT will be coming my way very shortly. Watch out barra!

So what will you be treating yourself with?

nearly 10m @ Rotto!!

Just checked out swell & wave data and Rotto is boasting a combination of sea and swell nearly 10m...

inland fishing

Because of the recent weather its been pretty hard to get out fishing so im going to head down around dwellingup tommorow. Can anyone give me some tips on any dams or rivers to fish around there

Cheers luke

Now that's good service!

I recently purchased a Penn boat rod from Bluewater Tackle in Melville ($250).

We headed off to Exmouth....first day trip out and it snapped off approx 30cm from the top of the rod after I had something big on (which got away).

I thought, Shyte! This shouldn't happen!!

Anyway, I went to Bluewater Tackle in Exmouth (an independently owned franchise) and they replaced it by flying one in the next morning from Perth. It had the reel on it by 11:00am the day after it snapped-they didn't even ask for a receipt!

Great service and I commend their business to you!

Cheers,

Causeway fishing tonight

Gonna head down to the causeway at point samson tonight for a fish. Low tide at 8.50pm. Gonna chuck some softies around and see if I can get anything decent. Some reports of some good Jacks and even an 80cm barra there recently so I'll have a bait out on some 30lb gear as well.

The weather forecast for tomorrow looks great so we'll probably head out in the boat. Will report tomorrow.

Drift Anchors!

Hello All!

A perfect winter's day here in Perth metro area!!

My query relates to the above... I don't have one and after reading various pieces of information, it appears that this is an essential ingredient to successful fishing!

I have a 24' f/glass centre cons.... What sort/size of drift anchor would be appropriate?

Many thanks in advance.

flurocarbon vs monofilament

Ok im really considering the argument between these two materials....

Obviously I know the pro's and con's of both, however, when it comes to flurocarbon... do they hookup more fish because the fish do not notice the line as much?

And the bigger question, if you are using monofilament leader, could more fish be deterred by it due to seeing it?

2 Prawns

A Tale of Two Prawns

Far away in the tropical waters of the Caribbean, two prawns were swimming round in the sea, one called Justin and the other called Christian. The prawns were constantly being harassed and threatened by sharks that inhabited the area.
Finally one day Justin said to Christian, "I'm fed up with being a prawn; I wish I was a shark, and then I wouldn't have any worries about being eaten."
A large mysterious cod appeared and said, "Your wish is granted." Lo and behold, Justin turned into a shark. Horrified, Christian immediately swam away, afraid of being eaten by his old mate. Time passed (as it invariably
does) and Justin found life as a shark boring and lonely. All his old mates simply swam away whenever he came close to them. Justin didn't realize that his new menacing appearance was the cause of his sad plight.
While swimming alone one day he saw the mysterious cod again and he thought perhaps the mysterious fish could change him back into a prawn.
He approached the cod and begged to be changed back, and, lo and behold, he found himself turned back into a prawn.
With tears of joy in his tiny little eyes Justin swam back to his friends and bought them all a cocktail (the punch line does not involve a prawn cocktail - it's much worse). Looking around the gathering at the reef he realized he couldn't see his old pal.
"Where's Christian?" he asked.
"He's at home, still distraught that his best friend changed sides to the enemy & became a shark," came the reply.
Eager to put things right again and end the mutual pain and torture, He set off to Christian's abode. As he opened the coral gate, memories came flooding back. He banged on the door and shouted: "It's me, Justin, your old friend, come out and see me again."
Christian replied, "No way man, you'll eat me. You're now a shark, the enemy, and I'll not be tricked into being your dinner."
Justin cried back "No, I'm not. That was the old me. I've changed........."

Wild Worm

One day Jim was out fishing and was not having any luck at all, he tried lures, worms and other types of bait and was just not catching anything. Tom was fishing about 20 feet from him and was catching fish as fast as he cast his line out. Jim was getting very jealous of this show off, so he asked the Tom what he was using for bait. The man said " I am using worms, but I dip them in whiskey" Jim got really interested in this technique so he asked Tom if he could try one of these drunk worms. Tom had no problem with this request so he handed Jim one of the worms. Jim placed the worm on the hook and cast out no sooner than his hook hit the water, Jims pole began to bow like crazy, he set his hook and started to reel it in. Once he got his catch up to the shore he noticed that the worm had the fish by the throat.

A fish goes into a bank and approaches the teller. He can see from her nameplate that the teller's name is Patricia Whack. So he says, "Ms. Whack, I'd like to get a loan to buy a boat and go on a long vacation. Patti looks at the fish in disbelief and asks how much he wants to borrow. The fish says $30,000. The teller asks his name and the fish says that his name is Rainbow Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's okay, he knows the bank manager. Patti explains that $30,000 is a substantial amount of money and that he will need to secure some collateral against the loan. She asks if he has anything he can use as collateral. The fish says, "Sure, I have this," and produces a tiny porcelain fly rod and reel, about an inch long; detailed and perfectly formed. Very confused, Patti explains that she'll have to consult with the manager and disappears into a back office. She finds the manager and says, "There's a fish named Rainbow Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow $30,000. And he wants to use this as collateral." She holds up the tiny rod & reel. "I mean, what the heck is this??" The bank manager looks back at her and says: "It's a knick-knack, Patti Whack. Give the fish a loan. His old man's a Rolling Stone.

Day out with Salmo!

After a phone call at 9:30pm on friday night saying there was a spare spot with salmo to fish the comp i jumped at the chance! We met up for the comp at 6am with everything we needed to have a good day out on the water. We left with great success and got straight into some good sized sambos on the bream gear and well as a decent bonito. We then moved to a couple of good dhuie spots that gave us plenty of good hookups which we dropped, with the last one salmo dropped broke his new custom made rod.....not happy at all, who wouldnt be?

We moved on to another spot which then i fell over on the boat landing flat on the anchor bollard!!! and yeah right on the bum cheek, man that hert! Two more good fished dropped and alittle tension was starting.lol.

We moved again getting into some good skippy ( the winning one) and some good sized pinks which were nailing the pink and ginger beer snapbacks fished off the bottom......also great fun on the bream gear.

We started the motor and what do ya know "NO STEERING" the nut that controls the steering ram came undone and with some great and deep thoughts salmo used the gaff as the new tiller steer! The side consol was just for the throttle control. Pretty funny cruising along flat out then the gaff pulls out sending the boat to a hard right turn and two guys nearlly swimming! Na not really but was funny.

All in all i was amazed with this guy "salmo" and his ability to get me onto some awsome fish in so shallow water! Shit i could use a kayak to get there. His knowledge of the area was outstanding and his fishing ability was second to none. With an few miss haps which made to day and some good fish which were even better. And a few beers  added as well.

Thanks alot mate, i had a ball out on the water and cant wait to get the travelling tinnie out again one day! Great boat and great bloke.......cheers chirs.

Woman drivers

Driving to work this morning on the freeway, I looked over
to my right and there was a woman in a brand new BMW doing
100kms per hour with her face up close to the mirror putting on her
eyeliner!!!!

Shocked, I looked away for a couple of seconds and when I
looked back she was still putting on the makeup but drifting halfway
into my lane!!

It scared me so much (and this coming from a bloke....) that I
dropped
my electric shaver, which knocked the bacon roll out of my
other hand.

In all the confusion of trying to straighten up the car using
my knees
against the steering wheel, it knocked my mobile from my ear,
which
fell into the coffee between my legs, causing it to splash and
burn BIG
JIM AND THE TWINS, causing me to scream, which made me drop the
cigarette out of my mouth, ruined my shirt and DISCONNECTED AN
    IMPORTANT CALL.

     F***ing Women Drivers!!!!!!!

Not good news at all!!!
