Orange Braid

Hey guys I'm chasing some orange braid to put on a stradic 4000FI, I think pe 2 would be OK.

Anyone using any, and how much will i need ?

Still crabs around

m e and a mate hit the swan last week when winds were no good..dropped 10 nets around 10 metres of water..

so surprised theres crabs still around the fisheries even did a check on our RFBL's and all that and they thought i was stupid crabbing this time of year..

was a good night except for the idiot in the zodiac who was using our floats as a race track and ended hooking one and dragging it to 15metres of water and letting the tide take it..thanks buddy

Milkfish??

Hi there! On the weekend while fishing, a came across a few massive schools of Milkfish. They were huge buggers, and would love to catch one. Has anyone here caught one before? If so what did you use, and do the put up a good fight??

Steel based cray pots

Can anyone give me the heads up on the purchase of new/second hand steel base 3/4 pots. NOR would be prefarable.

Walpole

Hey all,

we will be heading to Nornalup Inlet in the Chrissie Holidays somettime. and i would like to know what is *inside* the inlet.

i will mainly be L/B from Coal Mine Beach Road area and will have access to a kayak.

is it worth taking the big rods? what i had in mind was have 2 big rods set up around night time and relax or is that wasting time knwoing that nothing is there? are there stingrays or sharks? i hear there are lots of bream, king george and herring so maybe even a mulloway?

also where is better for breaming? Rest Point area or Coal Mine Beach are?

Cheers,

Eric

Best fishing experience of my life, and i didnt even catch a fish!!

Today i experienced something i have never seen or even heard of before. Not sure if its a regular occurance or just a one off thing, but im considering myself lucky to witness such an amazing sight.

Yesterday i went out for my first squid sesh on the ski, ended up with only 3 but saw up to 20, just couldnt entice the fussy buggers to take the jig, i was using an orange/white 2.5 jig. Anybody have any colour reccomendations for squidding in less than 5m of water??

Anyway, thought i would go back to the same spot today with my little bros jig instead, to see if i could add to the bowl of squid sitting in the fridge. Had one squid take it straight away but didnt stay connected. A boat trolled past me and stopped about 150m away, then 15mins later another boat that had been fishing near me took off and pulled up near the other boat. I looked over and could see birds and dolphins in a bit of a frenzy around the boats then noticed one of the guys was hooked up to something solid and figured they were onto a school of salmon! I changed to a 4inch gulp in nuclear chicken and drove up there and started working it near the surface, and one of the guys yells out to let it sink coz the school swam to the bottom. I asked him what he just caught and pulls up has gaff and on the end is a pink snapper, around 8kg!! My heart started racing and i was actually start to shake coz i was so nervous (never actually caught a decent pinky). He then yells out and point towards the other boat and i see this mass of silver in the water so i drive over and its this huge school of pink snapper, around 100+ fish, about 6kg-10kg and a few honkers around a meter!! They were swimming on the surface, tails and fins out and splashing around! I couldnt believe my eyes! i ended up drifting over the school, and noticed they were swimming in a circular motion, like a tornado of snapper, from the surface to the bottom, it wasnt even 10m deep!! They didnt want a bar of the SP's but i did end up jagging one on my 1-3kg gear, using 8lb line, but lost it a few moments later and ended up with one decent size snapper scale on my hook!  Followed the school for around half an hour and couldnt get another hookup!! Going back tomorrow with heavier gear and mulies!! The two boats had there boat limit just as i got there, using mulies.

Does this happen often? Has anybody seen this kind of thing before? It was seriously amazing as fishing off a boat/jetski is a totally new thing to me and ive never seen fish like that doing that! Seriously, if i was using a popper i probly would have been able to jag one. Is this breeding behaviour?? Dont think i'll be able to sleep tonight and i will never forget what i saw for as long as i live!

Tour of the job

Hey Adam, just wondering if it would be possible to organise a tour of your work for those of us interested. Perhaps next year when we are there for the F/W classic. I for one would be keen for it & maybe call for expressions of interest from others, Maybe worth a think.  Rob

After having a talk with someone in the know today

I have a couple of questions. This will be a little long winded but i hope worth it.

QUESTION 1 :How can we the public whom some of which tagged a great many fish(Both demersal and sambos)get access to the info that we provided in the first place?

Question 2 Who has the info that we provided?

Question 3 Why is the info we provided not used (Told it is because we were to good at what we did)?

Question 4 Why are the facts that alot of these fish have been recaptured not made public?

Question 5 Do the rec fishing public know that if we cant provide evidence that a good amount of the fish released  survive the fisheries will be slowly closed down(CASE IN POINT the sambo aggs).

If it continues to be abused and the shark issues continue then there is a very good chance it will be shut down. The efforts of the likes of Al Beven Gary lilley and Wally(Love him or hate him) that already go relatively un recognised would be in vein.I for one have been using a release weight since Garry first came up with the idea and will continue to do so until i move on to the big trolling ground in the sky.If i was a diver and came up a bit to quick and ended up with the benz i will be down the bara chamber as fast as i could. Why not give the fish the best chance possible.Bring the small ones up slow....Some will not agree with what i put on here but i dont care. The more info the puts rec practices in a good light is good info.Daz caught a tagged dhu the other day and i have checked it against some info from taggers up this way and we can only guess it is an older tag but cant find any info out on it.Told Recfish west now have the info but unsure as to who has control over it.

So it is the final Question to Terry or one of the other guys at recfish what info can you make public on tag #55753.

Thanks for taking the time to read my rant and i hope it helps put light on a small group of people that have been working for years behind the scenes with little to no thanks for their efforts.I am one of them and proud to count most of the rest as friends.I thank you for your efforts.

Adam is it possible to have a recapture section added as i can as some people to add the recaptures up this way and we can put up dazs one and what ever other info the rest of the members have at their disposal.Cheers

How to atttract sharks

Hi all,

A fairly straightforward one. Keen to hear your recommendations on getting the big toothies in to shore. I'll be ballooning live baits and dead baits along the coast between Leeman and Arrowsmith.

I usually fish with tuna oil...but was wandering what is ideal in the water? Is it worth purchasing a load of ox heart and other bloody meats to cloud up the water? Will any other species be attracted to this or will it typically scare the rest off?

I'm not worried what make of shark - just hoping to attract something of reasonable size up to a couple of metres.

Thanks,

Buschy

photos, year ago

These photos are from about a year ago but since i just joined il put them up. I have been deep sea fishing on boat only 3/4 times with not much luck except for this one trip. Was with my dads mate an ex crayfisherman who said come up to gero and i will get you some big fish. Not really having much knowledge and luck land based, catchin these fish just made it impossible to not be obsessed with fishin like i am now. It was about a 2 hr boat ride from the port of gero is all i know.

GONE FISHINNN

Question for the Exmouth boys

For next years April Exmouth trip we were thinking of trying something a bit different. Hoping to get across the gulf again but this time stay overnight . This would give more time to explore the creeks etc . Was thinking of camping on one of the islands like Y Island or Somerville Island for the night as the boat is a bit small for three blokes. Either that or somewhere on the mainland by the creeks. Fishing for sport - catch and release - and a break from chasing billies.
Is it safe to leave the car in the carpark at the Exmouth marina overnight ?
Is it OK (permitted) to camp on one of the islands overnight ?
If we stay on the mainland near one of the creeks , are the sandflies going to eat us alive ? Also the islands for that matter ?

Any feedback would be great

Holographic swim baits

Has any onE used these are they the same as soft plastics, also has anyone used the plastic bait?

Hey all, I know most people probably already know about this problem but my mates car got broken into at Woodmans point jetty last night. So if ya going there be extra careful, not a good way to end an evenings fishing!! Oh and there was nothing visable to encourage it either!! Frown

The Future of Coral Reefs in a Rapidly Increasing CO2 World

It's short notice but just in case anyone's interested:

The Future of Coral Reefs in a Rapidly Increasing CO2 World

6-8pm tonight @ UWA

"Join the Royal Society Fellow, Professor Malcolm McCulloch, as he discusses the sensitivity of coral reefs to the threats of global climate change, as well as the direct human impacts degrading their local marine environment. Malcolm talks about how rapidly rising levels of atmospheric CO2 is driving ocean acidification, a process that has the potential to cause substantial and still largely uncertain impacts on coral reefs and marine ecosystems generally. Follow him as he examines the argument that the most immediate and severe threats to coral reefs are those from local disturbances caused by human activity, often leading to a largely irreversible shift from coral to algal dominated ecosystems. Using long-term records preserved in coral cores, Malcolm shows how it is possible to decipher the dual impacts of global climate and local environmental changes, and addresses the need to optimise the resilience of coral reefs given the now inevitable impacts of a rapidly changing climate."
