Bunbury Fishing
Submitted by abandon on Sat, 2010-03-20 22:49Hi all,
Haven't been on for a while, haven't been fishing for a while...
Just want to pick a few brains on Bunbury fishing.
Will be heading down for a few days in May for a wedding, also want to wet a line down there.
So what does it have to offer shore based?
Any spots and tips for this time of year will be much appreciated.

Do Jewies Spook ????
Submitted by fishfish on Sat, 2010-03-20 17:12This is a question I have pondered for a while and has happened to me a few times ....
On recent fishing trips we have been doing well on jewies and have been releasing a few each trip but on more times than not the bite has shut down immediatly afterwards with no other jewies coming aboard or in some cases any other fish aswell , fish still show clearly on the sounder but thats it no more bites, now it has us keeping the first one that comes over the side { legal of course } for a feed and the following being returned which results in the bite stopping...
We used to do it the other way around returning the monster breeders if one came up and keeping a little feela for the barbie.....now we're not sure???
We have tried moving off a few hundred meters and doing a long drift back over the spot with no luck, yet you can go back to the same spot next week / month whenever and bring home a nice bag ... so I'm stumped ...
We also seem to be finding small "schools" of jewies which I thought was against the trend{ jewies being loners/ teritorial} and when pulling up to a spot we get with a few strikes/double hookups and then thats it !!!
Anyone else expirienced this before ????
Cheers fishfish....

Any Tips For Fishing Coral Bay?
Submitted by wazzbat on Sat, 2010-03-20 07:12Hi guys/gals
My Mum and Dad are heading up to Coral Bay in a few weeks with another couple and they are taking the boat with them. Fishing is not the sole reason for heading up there (like it would be for most of us) but he is hoping to get out at least a couple of times. He has never been before but if he finds some good fish, hopefully I can talk him into making it an annual trip with me as well of course but maybe push a little further up to Exmouth? They have rented a holiday house there somewhere.
So... Is there any advice on where to head and maybe what to take? It's going to be hard to convince him to buy too much stuff to take but I'll give it a go.
Cheers crew.

PE3 Jigging setup recommendations
Submitted by wildinp on Thu, 2010-03-18 17:35I am looking at getting a new rod and reel which will be used for 2 purposes fishing around 30lb. I want to use it for jigging on dhu and snapper style fishing, but also have the 'ability' to cast lures for further up north (got a trip to coral bay in 1.5mths), not for big gts but hopefully maybe macks or tuna. currently thinking a stella 5000 (think this holds about 240 of 30lb braid???) but not sure on a rod - a couple of places have recommended the tcurve lucanos or pe3 jigwrex.
I already have a stella 20000 setup so do not need anythin else big!
any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Fish Kill at Parry Inlet
Submitted by bod on Thu, 2010-03-18 01:09The Department of Water has investigated dead fish in Parry Inlet 25km west of Denmark. Following initial reports by members of the public to the Parry Beach camp site caretaker, a subsequent investigation by department staff discovered an estimated 1000 dead fish on the shores of the inlet. Species present included bream, mullet, salmon, trout and king george whiting, with the majority being small hardyheads.
Water samples were taken along the channel and several dead fish were collected and preserved in formalin for analysis. Physical parameters were also monitored including oxygen, salinity temperature and pH.
Analysis of water samples revealed that the probable cause of the fish deaths was a bloom of the microscopic algae Heterosigma akashiwo. This species causes oxygen stress in fish by clogging and irritating gills, but also by removing available oxygen from the water column. Heterosigma akashiwo occurs in a number of marine and estuarine environments, but usually occurs in small numbers which does not cause concern. Current low water levels due to a lack of rain, in combination with warm, still days have created ideal conditions for algal bloom events.
Signs have been erected at access points to the inlet advising the public of the fish kill event. The Department of Health has recommended that people avoid water activities in this area, and do not handle or collect any dead fish for bait or consumption. Anglers are also advised not to fish and people should keep their animals out of water until further notice. Department of Water staff will continue to monitor the situation.

need a new reel
Submitted by moz on Wed, 2010-03-17 23:33g'day fisher folk. i was on this site a long time ago but didn't post much, that long ago forgot username and password. have been watching the site for a couple of months and it seems to be getting bigger and better. well done to all involved. haven't fished in along time but going to give it a good shot. started to buy some new gear as well. i have got a twinpower 4000 fc matched up on a lemax black rose 8'{nice combo} also just bought a xzoga 10ft mastery. i've put the 4000 on it just seems a bit small not balanced right was thinking of the 5000 would that match ok? ithink the 5000 and 6000 have the same body but the 6 has a bigger spool and a bit heavier weight wise. will probably run 20 or 30 lb braid. i'm a bit of a shimano fan but open to options. was wondering what other folks would suggest to use on it. thanks in advance

what would you do
Submitted by poketz on Wed, 2010-03-17 21:11i know its not fishing related but im pissed off.
so i was at atm at round 7 pm before going into the bottlo to get a 6er of beer when i go to get back into my car and some f***wit decided to stick a knife in my back and tell me to hand over my keys, wallet and phone.
i turned round to pretend to hand him the keys and smacked him in face until he dropped to the ground so i could put a knee in back and call the cops. when they got there they gave me stern warning about punching him and breaking his nose. they picked him up and put him in their car before talking 2 me and getting my statement. sorry about the language but im really pissed off.
i was just wondering what every1 else would do. im thinking now it could have ended very badly for me, but it was a spur of the moment decision and i hate people like that. get a job and earn money like all the decent people around.
cheers. poketz

Anyone have Encyclopedias?
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 2010-03-17 11:02Hi Guys,
Does anyone have a set of encyclopedias hanging around, or a set looking for a good home. After a "world Book or Brittannica" set.
I know this is not reallyabout fishing, but my 11 year old is in the "why" stage - I get inundated with questions about how does a boat work, what causes tides, what type of fish is that, who decided to fish with a rod, etc...etc...etc...
It never seems to stop and he does not remember the answers year to year.
So, I was hoping to get hold of a set of encyclopedias to give to him to answer all these questions, as he likes to read, and hopefully, he will retain the info if he searches, reads, absorbs it from a book.
I do not want him to be reliant on a pc all the time, so not after a cd, but the actual books - please check in your shed, garage, nan's house etc..
I am willing to pay for them and collect around Perth!
Please PM me if you can help - thanks...

Daiwa Opus 4500, Any Good?
Submitted by mcollier_84 on Wed, 2010-03-17 10:19
I have recently moved to karratha and the mrs is keen to get into fishing, she has never really done much fishing before and i wanted to get her a half decent detup for her to start with too she if she likes it. Ive got her a shimano aquatip 6-10kg rod and was looking at getting something like a Daiwa Opus 4500 to put on it. Would this size reel be a good match for this type of rod and is it any good? Also are there other reels I should be looking at as a good match for this size rod?
cheers
Matt
