disapointed in the fisheries
Submitted by skrewloose on Tue, 2010-03-02 15:54i was down at the rocko jetty last night getting some photos for a up and coming article catching small salmon trout on lures and releasing them as they were about 15 to 20cm long tiny things after getting some nice shots i was walking around having a peek in some buckets and saw a couple of people with them in their buckets i took some pics and told the guy that they were undersized he said they where for bait and for me to mind my own business i then reconised him from this forum but i wont name and shame you unless i see you doing it again i made a call to fish watch and they told me tell him the size and bag limit and then leave him alone not good enough i say theirs 10 or so fish that wont grow up and be the great fish that they are 10 minuets later i saw he was still catching them but he wasn't putting them in his bucket he was getting a small kid of about 6 to do it very sad now this kid will have the idea in his head to keep everything he catches very sad i left shortly after so god knows how many he had
sorry for the gripe but something had to be said

EPIRB question
Submitted by scotto on Tue, 2010-03-02 10:22I was goin to PM carnarvanite for this, but thought it would be worth others knowing as well.
Im headin to quobba / gnaraloo in a few months, but just goin with the missus and dog, and not taking the boat.
my question is this - is it ok to take my boat EPIRB with me for safety reasons (like if i flip the car whilst 4 wheel driving, or fall off a cliff)?
does the signal emited from the epirbs we carry on our boats only go to sea rescue? is it common practice to do this (take boat epirbs in 4wds)?
would they do a search on land if a boat epirb was activated?

Submitted by nev on Tue, 2010-03-02 06:37was apparently stolen from the Blow Holes north of Carnarvon a few days ago. What a joke , what type of person would think about doing something like this? That sign is iconic.. Does anybody know of anything about this?

Fishing Sunday
Submitted by sea-kem on Mon, 2010-03-01 21:11Went out around 1.30 Sunday arvo on an easterly we thought was going to be atrocious but the further we went out the better it got . Into 40m with the ground looking like a desert plain within 5mins hooked into a magnificent 9kg dhuie, just goes to show they must have some good hidey holes on the flat coral. Second drift resulting in a King geordie at 500mm. Nothing for the next couple of hours until around 5.00 with a reasonable breaksea cod,ten minutes later after disetangling ourselves from a cray line a lucky last drop before heading in came up with another superperb King Geordie at 560mm.There's almost nothing better in life than filleting fish with a Broome like sunset and a cold beer in hand.

It's raining fish!
Submitted by bod on Mon, 2010-03-01 14:07
WHILE the Top End and Central Australia have been battered by
torrential rains, a Territory town has reportedly had fish falling from
the sky.
The freak phenomena happened not once, but twice, on Thursday and Friday afternoon about 6pm at Lajamanu, about 550km southwest of Katherine.
Christine Balmer, who took the photos of the fish on the ground and in a bucket, said she had to pinch herself when she was told "hundreds and hundreds" of small white fish had fallen from the sky.
"It rained fish in Lajamanu on Thursday and Friday night," she said,
"They fell from the sky everywhere.
"Locals were picking them up off the footy oval and on the ground everywhere.
"These fish were alive when they hit the ground."
Lajamanu sits on the edge of the Tanami Desert, hundreds of kilometres from Lake Argyle and Lake Elliott and even further from the coast. But it's not the first time the remote community has been bombarded by fins from above. In 2004, locals reported fish falling from the sky, and in 1974, a similar incident captured international headlines.
The small white fish are believed to be spangled perch, which are very common through much of northern Australia.
Weather bureau senior forecaster Ashley Patterson said the geological conditions were perfect on Friday for a tornado in the Douglas Daly region.
He said it would have been an ideal weather situation to allow the phenomena to occur - but no tornados have been reported to the authority.
"It's a very unusual event," he said.
"With an updraft, (fish and water picked up) could get up high - up to 60,000 or 70,000 feet.
"Or possibly from a tornado over a large water body - but we haven't had any reports," he said.

Robbo's Sea Bream
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2010-03-01 01:01Always trying to Target something new. Daisy will tell you I have so far failed in my attempt to get a nice Blue bone. I am still trying.LOL
Now I have set my sight on this fish. I am in the right area, but know didley squat about this beautiful fish.
For some reason it appeals and any help on how would be appreciated.
All I know is deep.
Next on the havent done it yet, but will try! Crossing off fish as i go
And as for the Bone. I will get you on a bent hook. After seeing the big spinning whaler (black whaler) take to flight behind my boat, and my windsurfing Gwhite experience in Perth, not to keen on the straight hook.
Cheers

Favourite Hook
Submitted by crasny1 on Sun, 2010-02-28 23:52What is your all time favourite hook and why?
If I could reach into the 'Hook" box, Bashing and all else around here it has become clearer and clearer to me that my fav hook is a Hoodlum.
Obviously it is not for everything but if I was told you can only get one, it would be this awesome, strong and razor sharp hook.
I have a stupid amount of hooks. They would all rust before I could use them all. Some people like lures, but I just have to have the best possible hooks. Up here in Karratha I even bye hooks that is more suited for down south, just so I have some. 3 Plano boxes full and I am a bit of a pig, so they arent all numbered a stacked in order. Rough seas does mess them up a bit, my excuse.
To get back to the point. It would be interesting to get a single hook preference and just because this is my favourite I am sure I could learn from everyone else.
Lets see the outcome.

The project boat continued !!!!
Submitted by barneyboy on Sun, 2010-02-28 21:01Okay here she is. It is so close to being finished I can smell the finish line.
Just a couple of cables to replace and its, bring on the dancing girls and big bottle of champagne. But I would be a bit scared to break the bottle over the bow for fear of shattering the poor old thing. Might leave that bit for the movies!!!
I do have some other things I would like to do to it(casting deck) but the main objective at the moment is to get her in the water!!! Other things can be done later.
Iam not happy with the finish the gun jambed on me Sheeeeet! and I ended up having to roll and brush it.
Its okay, just dont look to close.
At least its servicable now and probably 100 times stronger than what it was and that was really the whole point of the exercise..
Okay see ya out there!!!

Terminal tackle sensitivity?
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Sun, 2010-02-28 20:54Thought I'd put it out there to find out a few people's fishing habits and thoughts.
What do you think about the use of terminal tackle in your rigs and do you think you lose much sensitivity in feeling a light bite as a result. Best example I guess is bottom bouncing rigs, if you are using a clip swivel from your bimini leader to a three way swivel paternoster type rig, how much sensitivity do you think you loose (if at all) compared to a plain swivel tied from bimini to normal paternoster with no 3 way swivels. Is the ease of clip on clip off rigs and swivels a disadvantage compared to knots and very simplified rigs. Is that small variance likely to impact on you feeling a light bite which could be a good fish being finicky? Whats your opinion and feel free to provide other examples if you like.
