Sushimi
Submitted by Bluetonic on Sat, 2010-02-27 17:16With Big Red catching a nice Tuna off Busso and myself preparing some Sushimi for the crew at my place last night, it's got me thinking. How do you prepare your sushimi and better still, how do you prepare your dipping sauce? I like a little wasabi mixed in with worcesterchire sauce, but we didn't have any wasabi so just went with the worcestershire and with the Tuna cut thin and with the grain, it was superb. I know some use soy sauce as well. Have you ever tried it?

recreational boat fishing license
Submitted by gone fishin on Sat, 2010-02-27 15:56hi there people,
there have been many stories of the rules and regs of this license. here is the quick run down, not sure if any one has posted it but oh well.
it costs $30 per person, per year
this license covers all the fish under the new category of demersal scale fish
this license can be used to cover the entire people on board, how ever the bag limit applies to one license, for example if there are two people on board, but only one license the second person can still fish and keep fish if it doesnt exceed the license holders bag limit.
no license no fish for dinner
you can still fish without one but it is catch and release, and all boats fishing for these species must carry a return rig thingy (cant member the name of them lol)
2nd march is the date the license come into effect.
please dont quote me on this as i my have interpretaed it wrong but im sure it all 100% right, any way any questions you can call fisheries thats what i did.

Fellow Fisho Etiquette
Submitted by H.S. Chan on Sat, 2010-02-27 13:37
I just wanna let out something that happened last night that has left me pretty pissed off.
I went down to the Kwinana jetty last night seeing that we had some strong easterlies and i had a chance of getting a balloon out there hoping for some sharks. One of the rods i had out was the 8'11 pe5-6 Sylphy combo'd with a Spheros 14000fb and spool with about 280m of 50lb daiwa accudepth. Now while fishing, i saw a couple, some guy and his mrs turned up and setup about 2meters from my rod. Then i watched them cast their first line and incidently had crossed my line, so as i walked towards them to lend a hand to undo it, it was done and my line was back in the water before i got there. now after tightening my line up, they casted out again, but at this time i was distracted with my kids running around. Next thing i noticed was them fiddling with their tackle for a couple of mins then packed up and left. I actually commented to some fisho nearby that they werent here long. maybe about 15mins later, i went to check the bait on the rod, as i started reeling my rig in, saw that there was 2 separate stupid newbie rigs consisting of 1/2 a sabiki and a ball sinker slightly tangled in my line. about 30cm further down, my line has ended. NOW, these 2 F#$KEN idiots have got tangled, and instead of saying anything, the've cut over 200m of my line right off, without even gettin the rest of their rig and taking it with them. over 200m of NEW daiwa accudepth, a $25 shark hook, 150lb shark trace, my north star strobe light and a tuna head i just bought from oceanside. GONE. now this was the first line i put in the water. i only brought a couple of rods with me and travelled quite light. Now because of these 2 inconsiderate clowns, it ruined a good night for me and just spoiled a night out fishing with my family, as well as costing me a bundle. I swear, if they were still around when i noticed, they wouldnt have been able to walk away after doing something obviously and completely idiotically inconsiderate.
There isnt any snags around, and the line was cut probably 3-4 meters from the rod tip so, yea I KNOW it was cut.
God how can some people be like this, and if they're on fw by chance, UP YOURS! and send me a pm so we can catch up, i got something for ya

Suspicions Confirmed
Submitted by chrisp on Sat, 2010-02-27 09:22Did anyone go for a fish last night?
We hit our local until midnight which has never failed and could'nt even raise a herring or tailor for bait.
Offshore breeze and the full moon made for nice beach conditions.Even had a burley slick running half way to south africa and not a thing.
Always had my suspicions about the full moon and the if the winds not in your face your not in the race but that confims it.

Crazy Marlin pics Unreal
Submitted by Northwest on Fri, 2010-02-26 23:49gday,
I went to my oil and gas lecture today and was suprised to see what damage marlin can do around oil rigs heres some pics....
""Hazards to be aware of"" ""These are pictures of the floating load hose on the FPSO Girassol in Angola, Africa that was pierced by a blue marlin. Load operations were shut down for a few days while they replaced the hose. For reference, this terminal produces about 250k barrels of oil a day and this loading hose is approx 24in in diameter.""

killer whale 1: Trainer 0

Shamu attacks and kills Dawn Brancheau, trainer, at Sea World!
There was an accident that took place on Wednesday February 24, 2010 at the Sea World in Orlando, Florida. The innocent, friendly, captive whale that we all remember, Shamu, attacked Dawn Brancheau one of the “killer whale” trainers at Sea World. Apparently she slipped, was grabbed by the whale and shaken violently.
Investigations
state that Shamu, the killer whale, pulled her down into the tank and
she was unable to surface and drowned. According to a witness, as any
could imagine, this was a very horrible scene to watch.
Brancheau
lost her life due to the attack by Shamu. She was 40 years old with a
love for animals; according to her mother Loverde she always wanted to
be a trainer. She is survived by her mother Loverde and a family of
six siblings.
In 2006, Dawn Brancheau has told a reporter, “I
remember walking down the aisle [of Shamu Stadium] and telling my mom,
‘This is what I want to do.’ ”
Apparently, this isn’t the first time
“Shamu” as been out of control on one of the trainers; check out this

Some benchmarking on knots v's crimps
Submitted by till on Thu, 2010-02-25 16:44You might like to have a read; http://www.360tuna.com/forum/f3/terminal-tackle-crimp-strength-8886/
And in brief;
By looking at the 60# Sufix mono, using a K Jinkai crimp:
ABS is about 103 lbs.
KBS is about 73 lbs.
CBS (crimped breaking strength) is about 88 lbs.
Considering how quickly a crimp can be made, and how consistent the
results are in the second batch. Crimping looks like a good skill to be
learned. It appears that there is some trial and error involved, which
also means that good testing technique must be used.

Herring For Bait
Submitted by wazzbat on Thu, 2010-02-25 15:58I've seen a few people mention that they are using herring for bait. How is everyone using it? Are you using them live or filleted or halved etc. Are you catching them fresh or buying them?

How do you keep live bait alive on the hook?
Submitted by Likc on Thu, 2010-02-25 15:55Hi all.
I went to Grant St. yesterday night, as the weather was beautiful, to try my luck. Pretty quiet, but I caught a herring which I decided to put live on the hook on my heavy gear. So I pierced the hook through the poor thing, pretty much half way between the dorsal fin and tail. The fish didn’t shake or anything so I expect, that the hook went through the meat not through the spine or so. Fish was alive when I thrown it back. When I reeled in after some 10 minutes, herring was dead. So I am wondering, if it’s normal or if I did something wrong. Nothing touched the bait dead or alive.. Is Grant St. good spot for sharks/rays anyway?
