Casting rod to suit Stradic/Sustain 8000
Submitted by WODF on Tue, 2009-07-07 16:59Gday all,
currently looking at rods that will cast 60-100g lures (poppers and stickbaits) effectively, preferably with a stiff tip. Will be running 50-80lb braid for some fun on either a Stradic or Sustain for GT's, tuna etc... I'm not expecting to stop anything huge and I know I will be severely undergunned in some situations but that's all part of the fun. Will be fishing from a boat and from shore. Anything around $400 for what I want it for?
Cheers in advance.

couldntcatchacold's jigged Sargent Baker
Submitted by Bluetonic on Tue, 2009-07-07 16:43Young Chris has only just really started getting into fishing and still has a long way to go, but his Enthusiasm and hunger to learn has seen him already reach some rewarding milestones. One of those milestones was catching a fish on a jig which he managed to achieve off Cape Naturaliste on Saturday. Not the Sambo you wanted Chris, but non the less a good effort mate. No matter how many years you have fished, you will always learn something new.

sunbeam vacuum sealer
Submitted by DJ on Mon, 2009-07-06 22:42last year i purchased a sunbeam vac 660 for our fishing trip. i found that it would work on the automatic for 3 seals and then it would partially suck air and seal the bag, leaving air inside. i would have to rely on the manual pulse and seal for the rest of our fishing trip. I returned it and got a new one on warranty and found that it had the same problem.
Is there a problem with the new 660s or have i had 2 dud ones. I emailed sunbeam and they suggested that i let it rest for 1 minute after the first 2 seals and then 15 minutes after the 6th seal. Has anyone else experienced these problems.
Thanks.

Carnarvon Sunday report
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2009-07-06 15:44Sunday,0830,changed destination plans from going north to the Beejaling Shoals just south of the Blowholes to the Mud hole about 3/4 of the way to the islands off Carnarvon.
Had a look around for fish on some marked spots untill I found one showing some promise, anchored up and dropped the lines in.Result was undersized sweetlip emperor for both of us on board, another drop, same thing so upped anchor.
Checked out another couple of marks until found one with fish showing.Anchored again and first drop produced a double header of pinkies, both just legal size, back they went.Old mate Neville came up with a double of a just undersize pinkie and a pan size snapper, back goes the pinkie and into the box goes the pan size. After 20 odd drops we had released about 15 undersized pinkies and had just 1 x just size pinkie, the pan size snapper and a trevally of 2kg.
Upped anchor and headed towards Koks Island in company with another boat who must have had the same idea. Both of us anchored on the same bit of ground about 40metres apart.First drop and I'm onto something solid, bang and its gone, inspection showed 150lb trace line frayed/bitten through a few inches below the dropper knot.Nev is on and fairly stretching his arms with a double header of pinkies in the range of 5-6kg.I lose the next one when the 10/0 suicide hook snaps off as I was lifting it in to the boatOver the next hour we get our bag limit of pinkies, four of which are of a bigger size than usually caught up here so we were not complaining especially Nev who hadn't caught one before let alone a double header of them.He has lived up here on and off for years and while having heard of the islands had never seen them so he got a trip to remember and we hope a lot more to look forward to.
Back at the ramp we were chatting to two other boats who went to the shoals for average returns of 2 pinkies and 2 average spaniards so I think we made the right choice for once.

New Fishing Rules, Off the hook???
Submitted by Blank Cheque on Mon, 2009-07-06 11:36WA Fisheries Department has admitted it will be powerless to enforce its new bans and fees to protect dwindling stocks.
Its 100 officers will have to oversee more than 600,000 recreational fishers and 50 commercial operations on over 12,500km of coastline under a licensing decree issued this week, according to principal management officer Nathan Harrison.
From mid-October, anyone fishing from a boat will need a $30 permit and those chasing demersal, or bottom-dwelling scalefish, will need to purchase additional licences.
A demersal licence costs $20 a day or $150 a year. Keen fishers could be hit with up to $400 in extra bills each year. Demersal fishing has also been banned from October 15 to December 15 from Kalbarri to Augusta.
The Fisheries Department says it will depend on fishers ``doing the right thing'' with only 5 per cent of people expected to be checked for licences.
``It's not enough,'' Mr Harrison said.
``There is no question when it comes to recreational fishing, not just with the licensing arrangements, but bag limits and things like that, we have to use education as the primary strategy because we can't have a Fisheries officer checking everyone on every jetty or boat ramp.''
If most people abide by new laws, the department is expected to generate an extra $4million in revenue.
This money, Mr Harrison says, will go straight back into fisheries management and be used, in part, to hire another 10 to 15 patrol officers.
Mr Harrison said fines for not having the correct licence will range from $100 to $400.
The new fees have angered fishing representative group Recfishwest.

Breaden Premium Quality Japanese Squid Jigs.........now @ Oceanside!
Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 2009-07-04 13:07Well these repuatable Breaden "Egimaru" Premium Quality Japanese Squid Jigs have arived!
The Solid Urethane Body helps the squid jig sink quicker so therefore getting to the squid in deepwater or even in shallower water with boat wind drift.
These jigs have a Snagless Sinker Keel weight that varys in sizes. These uniques jigs have a few models that produce different actions and sink rates due to keel size & position on the body.
Made in Japan so quality is second to none. The various different colours and sink rates make them a must have in any squiders arsenal!
They also have a few models designed for deepwer water also. This area no doubt is taking off and the "Deep" and "Super Deep" models are absolutly perfect for that.
** Oceanside Tackle and Marine has one of the biggest ranges off squid jigs and these Breaden ones complete that comprehensive range. Prices of the Egimaru vary, so do the models and likewise the colours. They're at the $30 bracket on average but there premium quality balances that up. Usual FW members discounts apply **

OK so now I'm confused and need help
Submitted by SteveCorreia on Sat, 2009-07-04 10:40Hi everyone.
I've been sitting back and watching these changes with interest and, frankly, I can see some strange holes in the Government's arguments. However, I'm not privvy to all the information they may have and I currently have no public position on this.
So I need everyone's help please.
I would like to get as much info about fish stocks, pros and cons of this plan, other suggestion, ANYTHING that can help to create a sensible plan, and then I'll take it to some people who are a lot smarter than I am to evaluate it. They are also very good people with connections.
If the govt is doing the right thing, I'll publicly support it with a free TV information campaign.
If the govt has made a mistake, I expect them to change it.
If they're not prepared to, I'll also have to create a public information campaign that will be vast and worldwide.
It's all about doing the right thing for the fish BUT NOT at the expense of good people's livelihoods.
I greatly appreciate any feedback being sent to stevec@locotv.com.au
Nothing makes me angrier than decision making that hurts people's lives ... other than declining fish stocks.
Many thanks,
Steve Correia - CEO ZuluMedia & LocoTV

Okuma Eclipse Baitrunner vs Shimano Baitrunner
Submitted by BBWA4LIFE on Fri, 2009-07-03 21:11Just getting a more wide opinion for these two reels compared with eachother.
The Okuma Eclipz bait run style fishing reel is a heavy duty saltwater bait feeder reel with stainless steel gears, a sealed drag, and 5 ball bearings including one as the roller bearing. Gear ratio is 4.5:1 and this model being the Okuma Eclipz 90 bait runner has a line capacity of 450 metres of 10kg line or 370 metres of 12kg Fishing Line. RRP $175
The Shimano 6500 Bait runner fishing reel has 4 anti rust ball bearings, a gear ratio of 4.2:1 and a line capacity of 270 yards of 20lb line, 230 yards of 25lb line or 185 yards of 30lb fishing line. RRP $259
I own 2 Okuma Epix EB20 Baitrunners and 1 EB40 for bream and general purpose, wanting to purchase another Baitrunner for some serious livebaiting for a trip through the pilbara, gnaraloo, steep point, quobba ect. I kinder leaning towards the Okuma Eclipze after owning 3 atm and havnt had a drama with them and rate the reels highly...
What does everyone else think?? All comments welcome.
Cheers.
