Radio not working
Submitted by Silver Fox on Mon, 2019-04-22 15:18All right . Took the tub out for a fang today and picked up some mighty fine Shark Bay Blue swimmers. Downside was my radio ( GME , I know , I know.... ) had plenty of power to it yet no sound coming out of it at all . Climbing up and checking the cable for the aerial I noticed the plastic coating has disintegrated from the cable itself. What’s the best way to check if the cable or the unit is munted ? . Thanks in advance

Easter vis/water temp/catches
Submitted by scotto on Wed, 2019-04-17 19:22So a 10 day break looms for most of W.A. I thought it’d be a good thread if folks could put up where they are, general catches, water temps, vis reports, yadda yadda.
I’m personally heading to Kalbarri, so it’d be good to see whether to chuck in the spear gear, or just troll for mackies when and where I can.
Hopefully after fridays shit weather front, it gets warm enough the beach fishos get an eyeful of bikini splitarse, or dunsborough milfs
happy easter muthafwers!

Avoiding Exmouth Sharks, Long Island tips and general Exxy Advice
Submitted by samd on Sun, 2019-04-14 11:57G’day Guys,
chasing some advise from guys with exmouth experience. We are headed up there for two weeks in May. I normally do an annual trip to Ningaloo Station but we have a 3 month old so took the easy option and rented a house in exxy for this year instead.
Having fished Ningaloo a lot I’m well versed in the shark problem and every year it get worse and worse,.. thanks fisheries for your great management! Exmouth is a new one for us and with the varied fishing on offer looking for advice and suggestions on what to do so we don’t spend the whole trip losing gear and fish to the taxman. Generally I have found fishing small shows on deeper water that don’t get hit as hard works at the station with anything between 40-80m being a total loss some days... we go shallower to get fish up faster or deeper for the reduced numbers... if we travel a little further from exxy it deeper do the shark numbers reduce?
The plan is a mix of trolling for Pelagics, bottom bashing, a couple of overnight Gulf trips and a multi day trip to Long Island and surrounds... are the sharks as bad down the southern end of the gulf and in the shallow water? We have never had the issue at station of losing Pelagics to sharks but I hear that’s a problem in exmouth? Is it limited to the easy accessed grounds around tantabiddi etc or does it happen all over? Also any guidance to fishing Long Island would be great! We are hoping to throw stickbaits around the coral and perhaps do a little spearfishing out there also.
Not asking for specific spots or coords, but some guidance on depths and general locations to start looking would be great! I have a Trailcraft 640 Hardtop so going a little wider is no issue.
Cheers!

Easter weather lol
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2019-04-14 09:35So I've been working my ass off 6 days a week and thinking I'd have a bit of time off at Easter, do a bit of fishing as the weather's usually tamed down this time of year. But yeah nah 3-4.5m swells up the coast where I'll be FFS. Time to dust the clubs off and play the Ledge pt Masters with a few (lot of) beers. At least there's footy all over Easter.

Opinions on 2004 QUINTREX 475 CoastRunner C.V
Submitted by bussogirl on Sun, 2019-04-14 07:27
Hi
Looking at purchasing a 2004 Quintrex Coast runner C.V
Millennium hull
Just wanted some thoughts on this boat!
Also the motor is a 70hp Johnson 4 stroke with 334hrs
Is this alot of hours?
Some people are saying thats to many hours, but I thought that's not bad for the age of the motor? Plus it's got good service history?
Any thoughts?
Cheers!

Kalbarri Offshore
Submitted by Pembo on Thu, 2019-04-11 22:25G'day Gang
Before I start, i confirm i have used the search function on this site.
I am at Kalbarri for 8 days from this Saturday with a 24ft Kevlacat. From what I can devise i need to head SW some 20-30 NM to find good ground. That is not a problem, but i was hoping to take my 8 year old out so looking for something a bit closer....any tips?
Also, from what i can gather, the ground in close proximity is fairly flat but has some coral. Is this correct (ie no structure but still fairly productive)?
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Brent

electric trailer winch
Submitted by slam on Thu, 2019-04-11 12:15Hey all,
Just back on the wagon after a few too many years away from boating and fishing. As my years have go on, finding a tad harder to pull boat up on manual winch. Have been reading all old posts on winches but was wondering if any new winches on the market are worth looking at?
I see many people dont think they are worth it but my heart says otherwise!!!
