Ledge Point
Submitted by metroLBfisher on Thu, 2012-02-23 16:10Heading to ledge point tomorrow night with a mate!
Putting in the hours to try and land my first shark or mulloway, hopefully this trip pays off.
Was wondering if anyone knows what the weed was like up that way and also how far up the beach to get to a good spot (gutters, holes etc.)
Been up there before seems to be pretty reefy ground but i rekon picking the right spot there has got to be some sharks and mulla's lurking the waters
Cheers,
Jamie

Whats the lightest you go??
Submitted by Jeffree on Wed, 2012-02-22 20:33These are the weapons of choice for tomorrow. Bit of trolling, jigging, and soft plastic action.
Stella 5000sw,
Tekota 800,
Ci4 stradic 1000.
They always laugh at me when i go so light, but i have pulled fish of the trip twice in a row. 64cm dhu, and 63cm dhu on the ultra light stuff.
So whats the lightest you guys go??

Busselton jetty
Submitted by jettyrat on Wed, 2012-02-22 20:32Went for a walk on the Busselton jetty today and was appalled at the amount of vehicle traffic and how unsafe it was (five vehicles in forty minutes) estimated speeds of up to thirty kilometres an hour. It won't be long before someone is seriously hurt or killed if the traffic is allowed to continue at such speeds. There is no way I'm letting my kids go on the jetty alone. Far to dangerous.

Revised Posession Limits?
Submitted by DX288 on Wed, 2012-02-22 20:11What a crock of sh*t...............
http://www.smh.com.au/wa-news/fish-limits-cut-to-end-fill-the-freezer-mentality-20120222-1tmwa.html
Legal fishing limits will be slashed in order to end the "fill the freezer" mentality in WA which is threatening popular species.
Under a draft strategy released today, the State-wide fillet possession limit will be halved to 10 kilograms for the popular demersal scale fish including pink snapper and dhufish.
On top of this, anglers will also be allowed to possess 10 kilograms of pelagic species fish, such as tuna, mackerel and bream.
Department of Fisheries director general Stuart Smith said there were currently four different sets of bag limits across WA, which was "complex and cumbersome."
"It is time to look at all the rules, to help deliver better fishing experiences and also ensure the long-term sustainability of WA's highly valued fish stocks," Mr Smith said.
"The vast majority of fishers do the right thing and follow the rules, but we can make things easier for the more than 600,000 people who enjoy recreational fishing."
Mr Smith said the focus of recreational fishing in WA needed to be on the quality of the experience and enjoying eating fresh fish, not the 'fill the freezer' mentality of the past.
"With limited fish stocks available, we need to continue the good progress already made by the recreational fishing sector in moving away from bringing back large quantities of fish to eat for months after an individual trip," he said.
"Reducing the possession limit will help managers effectively address future sustainability concerns for demersal species in regions such as the Gascoyne and Pilbara."
He said in some cases, anglers were fishing to the possession limit as a target, which had raised significant concerns.
In Coral Bay, the shire removed a total of 98,890 litres of fish offal from a single fish cleaning station over a 12-month period in 2009/10.
The changes would also see the bag limit for some demersal fish species reduced from four to two.
The draft strategy is now open for consultation until April 30.
Recfishwest screwed us over last time, let's not let them do it again.
I'd suggest that this is just stupid. Travel miles for a fishing trip, two good demersals and you're over your posession limit. What about the people who can only get out fishing a few times a year?
I'd urge anyone who objects to this to start writing to Recfishwest and anyone else who'll listen now and protesting this proposed change.

Submitted by Brad Y on Wed, 2012-02-22 16:58Can anyone with a gosa 5000 post up a pic of the drag clicker? I have found the small metal tab inside the spool but it doesnt look broken. However the reel is silent and I would to know if its going off in the rod holder while im not looking.
Going for a troll tomorrow.
Submitted by Jeffree on Wed, 2012-02-22 15:41going for a troll with my skipper and mate luke (fishon570).
Being two first time trollers with minimal experience, i was hoping a few of the more experienced trollers could give us some tips of what lures to use (deep diving or shallow swimers) and general areas or specific areas if you like ;) to try. targeting maccies

proposed quota changes
Submitted by black gen on Wed, 2012-02-22 15:17after reading up on the proposed changes today there are seemingly some areas which i find wrong. firstly i am all for fishing for the future and always having something to catch because its what we all love to do, however the one thing that continually give me the sh*ts is that our rec licenses are costing more money, there are always more new licenses to buy or skippers tickets to get and our bag limits are getting cut. now that isnt the thing that is frustrating....the thing annying me and im sure some others is that the pro fishermen are not getting their quotas cut at the same rate as ours are.
one example from the latest proposed changes, our pink snapper quotas in the gascoyne region has gone from 8 to now 4 and proposed to 2. that is 25% of the former allowable limit. however the pro's quota has been cut by only 40%. so they can sit on the same lump we fish on (because they do and i have seen them) and pull off ton after ton of pinks and other fish (sometimes up to 60-70 high of fish)...these other fish qhich are bycatch...what happens to them? thrown back to die i suppose. that is bloody frustrating knowing they still pretty much have a free for all so long as they fall within their units of days allowed to fish.
i hope that made sense, it just seems that we as rec fishermen and women are continually copping the tighter regulations and the pro's are going on business as usual..

Converting transom mount transducer to thru hull
Submitted by DBZ on Wed, 2012-02-22 08:24Hi all,
I have just bought a Airmar TM260 1kw transducer (transom mount). My question is whether anyone has had experience converting this to a thru-hull tranducer via mounting in a wet box?
The boat already has an existing westbox location so just looking for any ideas / tips / feedback on building a larger wetbox and what sort of performance i can expect from this set up?
Cheers

first sea trial question
Submitted by grayzeee on Wed, 2012-02-22 05:33Hey
I've recieved a PM from a member has seen the boat he wants and likes. There are concerns about the boat being underpowered.
"I will go for a water test, and take someone along to help load up boat.
However my only experience driving boats is from my Skippers ticket, how do I tell if the boat is underpowered.
Cheers for the advice"
I have answered , but I'd love some more input from those with more experience in these things.
cheers fella's

Submitted by Longcast on Wed, 2012-02-22 00:08Hi,
Some pictures from over the festive season i thought i would post up after seeing another post with rubber hanging out of a nice dhuies mouth.
We have fished rubbers with success for a couple of years know 50+meters and above.
How many other like minded people out there that get into the same type of fishing reaping the rewards of artificals?
