Help with new boat
Submitted by dansyy on Wed, 2011-12-14 14:33Hey guys , looking at buying a new boat and have my eyes on a 4.74m runabout.
Its a stacer with a 50hp outboard motor, gps and fish finder included, aswell as bait board, bimini and some other little extras. Comes with a licensed trailer.
Its priced at $5900, this is basically the most i wanna pay for a boat, maybe a little more.
Is this a pretty prime deal? boat looks in pretty good knick, working motor and electronics.
Should i be paying less for a boat like this, or should i be paying a little more and get a better or bigger boat?
Basically just want it to head no more then 20-25km's out (on a very calm day), but mostly be putting around five fathom and three mile etc to find dhuis. Any help would be appreciated :)
Cheers,
dansyy

Licence fees fund recreational fishing initiatives
Submitted by Colin Hay on Wed, 2011-12-14 11:16
Wed 14 December, 2011
Portfolio: Fisheries
- Funding initiatives reviewed by newly established advisory body
- Community and stakeholders groups can apply for funding for initiatives
Fisheries Minister Norman Moore today announced that the funding had been made available through the Recreational Fishing from Boat Licence, introduced last year and fees from other licence categories.
“The take up of around 110,000 Recreational Fishing from Boat Licences indicates that fishers are willing to pay the fees, knowing the funds raised will go into better management and enhancing the recreational fishing experience in WA,” Mr Moore said.
“The new initiatives, like habitat enhancement projects such as artificial reefs, plus stock enhancement opportunities, improved recreational data collection and ideas to develop the socio-economic benefits of recreational fishing, are all possible options for funding consideration.”
The Minister said a new advisory board, the Recreational Fishing Account Advisory Board (RFAAB), had been established by Recfishwest to provide guidance and recommendations about initiatives to be funded.
“The set up of this body shows the sector’s involvement is ensuring greater measures to keep the State’s fisheries sustainable and make sure the recreational fishing experience remains vibrant into the future,” he said.
Mr Craig Leatt-Hayter has been appointed as the independent chair of the advisory body, which will also include four community representatives, as well as the Chairman of Recfishwest and observers representing the Recfishwest CEO and Director General of the Department of Fisheries.
“The advisory board is now faced with the challenge of developing a business plan around the use of initiatives funding and providing advice on priorities for expenditure and recommended projects,” Mr Moore said.
“Community and stakeholder groups will have the opportunity to put forward new initiatives for funding consideration. The important thing is that recreational fishing will benefit from a better focus on the ways to improve this popular Western Australian pastime.”
- Details about the Recreational Fishing Account are available at http://www.recfishwest.org.au

Scalie prep?
Submitted by Mick71 on Wed, 2011-12-14 09:22Hi Guys
I caught a couple of scalies to use for bait, I used a couple fresh the same evening and froze the rest. My problem is when I thawed the rest, they were very soft and mushy and didn't last very long. I use some of them whole, and also fillet some and use them on a gang hook set-up.
I was just wondering if there is any special preperation that needs to be done to prevent this, or what kind of rig can I use to stop them coming off in about 2 seconds, or should I just catch them fresh and use them the same day?
Thanks
Mike
P.S. Season greetings to all and their families

replacing guides on my old abu garcia boat rod
Submitted by stevebw23 on Tue, 2011-12-13 17:28I've been given an old abu garcia overhead boat rod (198cm jig stick) and also an old penn overhead reel (penn longbeach No68). Iv'e pulled the reel apart and cleaned it up so it works sweet now. The rod has a missing guide and a few bent ones so i'm thinking of doing a diy job and replacing them for new ones. Does anyone know where i can buy good guides or a kit for redoing the guides? iv'e looked on youtube at how to replace them so iv'e got a basic idea of how to do it, just need the gear to do the job now. Any tips, website links, useful help or info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

fishing trip
Submitted by Abz on Mon, 2011-12-12 23:49Hi guys,
i am looking to go out in the holidays for some fishing outside the local areas, im looking at exmouth as a limit for north and maybe espearence south.
i would like to get some info from those that have abit of experience with these areas and how the fishing would be around this time of the year? it will be landbased and i want to get in to some serious fish if possible and not the usual bream, chopper tailors etc.. big tailor would be nice.
im not looking at exact spots but just wanna know how it will be, what i should expect from the area as far as the fish species, what are my chances at catching a good sized fish, what are the best times to fish, lure or bait etc
im thinking more towards exmouth but ive never been there and dont really what to expect ..
any help and info would be really appreciated,
cheers
