Dont ya hate that!!!
Submitted by Hairyone on Sun, 2011-12-18 14:10Got down the beach last night set up my chair, rod holder, bait, grabbed a beer snd got ready for a good nights fishing.....
First cast and I felt a knot in the line go flying through the eyes...........looked down at my reel and SHIT!!!!! I was down to Mono!!!
I specically asked them at the tackle shop to fill my spool with braid.........no mono!
I couldnt cast it with a bloody great knot in it so my only choice was to take the braid off.........second cast.......twang!.........look down at my reel and no line left on the spool!!!!!!!! FUCK!!!
Pack the gear up, grab another beer and watch my mate pull in 3 Tailor in as many minutes.......
Oh well.......a bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.

First Report Sat 17/11
Submitted by Brock O on Sun, 2011-12-18 09:15
Hi all, first report for me and second season with the boat. still looking for ground when the weather plays the game, last season was hard with outtings and no fish, manage to pull a few sized dhue myself but the best fish caught on the boat have always been by the deckie. This is an issue for the wife recons the only fish i can kill are the duaghters gold fish.
So yesterday being a day with a leave pass and the weather looking reasoable we decided to head out and have a look around, tryed a spot from last season which had my brother cath a 18kg Dhue to my none, first three fish were good size Srg Baker which quickly went on ice but this did not entice a Dhue, then followed my first and only fish for the day a decent Break sea cod that went 46cm, this went in the box for my conferdence of catching big and better fish was not good. My mate then open his account with a break sea cod also that went 50cm.
We decided on a move to a spot found by luck last season that had biggfish land three big snapper to my none in a ten minute period, first drop had my mate on again with a doble header Queenie and baby amber jack ( i think ) second drop my mate again double header of pinkies, the larger we kepted and the smaller returned strong. This was by 930 so we thought the chances of another class 1 would be good but it didnt eventuate the weather turned dead not a fart of wind. that was it not a fish landed after that even with all attempts made. headed in at 3 with a few keepers.
Well i guess persistance is the key, i gain somthing out of every outing and the deckie is always happy. took a few photos of the day. i enjoy the photos and reports on this site weather big or small so thought i would contribute.

Anchoring
Submitted by Swan River Fisher on Sun, 2011-12-18 08:44Hi guys
Just wondering, do any of you anchor in depths of 30-40m behind garden island or just drift? I know you don't anchor on 5 fathom because waves build up over the shallow water.
We were going to anchor up because fish were everywhere in 30m but i was thinking what happens if a rogue wave appears.
Also, how much anchor rope do you guys have?
Thanks

Rocks off burns beach
Submitted by Oracle on Sat, 2011-12-17 20:46Not sure what they are called, but anyone dived off the rocks at burns beach? I dived there today and saw the marine parks boat watching me as I got back up. From what I know, this isn't part of a marine park or no dive zone or am I wrong?

Whats the legality
Submitted by wangler on Sat, 2011-12-17 20:22of having set hooks on cray pot ropes ?
Ok, so went for a dive today, and found these 2 hanging off a rope snagged on the bottom(which looked like a cray rope). No pot and no float. This was in 14m of water 6km from Hillarys.

exellent day on the water
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sat, 2011-12-17 16:57hi guys
goodz (ben), troy and myself went out for a fish today from point peron, it was a very early start with us leaving the marina at 4.30am.
little bumpy on the way out but the plan was to stop at one of bens spots on the way out.....first drops result in numerous sambo hookups, even a double header, not huge fish but not rats either, then the sea seep moved in and it was one after another until we had to move to get away from them.
we moved out a little deeper only to come across more sea sweep, they were becoming a pest!!!
move around a little looking for some better shows and then it went off.... with mutilple hookups for the next few hours
you name it, it was coming over the side, by 11am we had landed...
11 dhuys
5 pinkys
6 sambos
4 blackass
6 swallow tail
about 30 sea sweep
and as many skippy as well, plus all the normal shit stuff.
then ben hooks up big time on the light outfit and the fish headed straight back into his hole, with a big effort from ben he manages to get his fish out of the hole and we were all calling it for a big dhuy.
then a nice size groper hits the surface and we were shocked to say the least.
we come home with 2 size dhuys 84cm & 68cm
58cm pinky
bens groper
1 b/b
and a few big skippy each.
every thing else was returned, all the dhuys & pinkys were in great shape and went back without the use of a release weight and swam off strong.
all in all a great day on the water with some quality fishing.
some pics to come soon.
check out pics here

Murray River
Submitted by buschy on Sat, 2011-12-17 15:51Hi folks,
Just wandering if anyone has any personal experience / hearsay evidence of mulloway in the Murray River. I know you'll get them on the beaches surrounding the Mandurah region and in the estuary too - but am curious as to whether they pop up from time to time on the other side of the inlet?
FYI - Murray River is running fast as a result of the floods in Williams and is about 0.75m higher than usual. Hard work fishing the snags at the moment!
Cheers,
Rob

Crabs for Mulloway Bait
Submitted by Hairyone on Sat, 2011-12-17 13:13I usualy fish between Corronation Beach and Bowes river and quite often there are hundreds of crabs running all over the beach.
Last weekend we had caught a couple of Wobygongs a Tailor, a Herring, a Snook, a shovel nose ray and a heap of small Mulloway............
For something different a caught one of these crabs and baited it up with a strip of Mullet and chucked it in.........couple of minutes latter and "bang" .....a 90cm Mulloway.
Do other people use crabs as bait? Are they regarded as good bait or do you reckon it was just arse and he took it because of the mullet?
Cheers

Pro's netting 6 tonne of tailor!
Submitted by lovemefishin on Sat, 2011-12-17 12:25Heard that the professionals netted 6 tonnes of tailor last week along the northern beaches of Bunbury... And apparently they were sent off for cat food.
Whats the point of having bag limits for us recreational anglers when the pro's can take so much?

Jigging the Super Deep Jigs - awesome day on the water!
Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 2011-12-17 11:57Well with the ban being lifted yesterday I was just itching to get back out. I love the Super Deep fish and ever more so jigging that depth for them. The current and drift speed often works against me out there but these Japanese Super Deep 750 & 1kg jigs sorted that out!
Blake my shop manager was also keen to get his arm stretched so off we went. I sounded around and located fish on an edge and down went my Super Deep Jig. This is the first time using this jig and holy shit its flutter action is far better than I expected (being so heavy) but the centre weight is awesome and had plenty of flash & action!
First drop I got a small Bass groper, Blake then got a nice Greyband (shark had a swipe on the way up), I then got a Hapuku and Blake finished off with a cracker Bass Groper on the Super Deep 1kg which put a massive smile on his dial!
We could feel the action of the jig in 400m of water and all fish smashed the Super Deep jigs hard. Aggressive hits indeed and some fish hit the jigs on the up jig and some on the flutter down!
My small Bass on the Super Deep Jig!

Blakes Greybanded cod on the Super Deep Jig!
My Hapuku on the Super Deep Jig!

Blakes Bass Groper on the Super Deep Jig!
Well done Blake getting quality fish on jig & good company mate ![]()
