FW Exmouth Comp - Opening Night - Friday 14th May - 7pm - Chalet A - Lighthouse Caravan Park
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Mon, 2010-04-26 16:56Hi Crew,
The fishwrecked Exmouth competition opening night will be held out the front of Mako Magic's place which is - CHALET A - at the LIGHTHOUSE CARAVAN PARK. It will be on the Friday night before the competition at 7PM. It should only take 15-20 minutes to get it all sorted (please try and get there a little before 7)

What will happen is I will hand each team their own clip on tags for the comp (different from last year) and the rules and go through how the comp will be run. Each team will need to put their individual badge on the fish they catch and take photos of fork length, total length and a photo of you holding the fish with the badge in each of the pics. You will need to measure the fish as it sits naturally, if the photos look like the fish has been distorted to lengthen the fish then that entry will be disqualified.
There will be categories for almost all of the prized fish in Exmouth waters - if you wish to catch and release or catch and kill that is completely up to you and as the competition is a photo competition - fishwrecked holds no responsibility for your actions. Upon accepting the entry details you acknowledge that you enter at your own risk and will have agreed to an indemnity waiver effectively stating fishwrecked is not liable for your actions.
The prizes will generally be around $100 cash for each section, I am weighing up buying a birds eye flight as one of the prizes (hang gliding over town), Mako Magic has donated a custom built game rod and triton: http://fishwrecked.com/forum/exmouth-2010-biggest-marlin-prize-finished for the biggest marlin caught (the fish will need to be measured so please have a tape measure on board - any issues with this prize will be sorted by Matt and myself and a winner will be decided) Gully has decided to do up a print as he did last year, this year it is:
I am also hoping to get Men on Boats on board with a 100 hour service as a prize and will also be doing a random prize for the best photo that sums up the weekend, or just something cool. I haven't assigned specific prizes to categories as yet, just sorting some of the finer details, but things should be done soon. There will also be a junior section this year as well as a landbased prize.
I'm sure theres more I've forgotten to mention here, but its getting sorted, if you have any questions, please let me know - otherwise I will outline it all on the Friday night and hope to see all off you who have registered there. :)
Cheers,
Adam

trouble in paradise
Submitted by bod on Mon, 2010-04-26 16:36Cyclone-proof windows, computers and printers were smashed and offices trashed at the civilian terminal 40km south of Exmouth.
An airport worker discovered the damage at 5am today.
About 300 RAAF personnel are in Exmouth this weekend for training and operation exercises.
Airport staff are auditing car keys and office equipment to make sure nothing was stolen.
Police are investigating.
The airport is routinely patrolled by Australian Federal Police and Exmouth police but no security is employed overnight.
It is expected CCTV vision will help identify the vandals.

i offered to take them out in the big boat but they decided to canoe instead.

Submitted by johnny on Mon, 2010-04-26 08:16Hey guys
does anyone know a website other than seabreeze to look at for 7 day weather predictions?
i usually use seabreeze and try and get an idea from the lancelin and geraldton graphs, but lately they have been to very different graphs.. if you use seabreeze, do you find geraldton a good reference or lancelin?
cheers

Help RE Point Peron (for Monday)
Submitted by gumbyconts on Sun, 2010-04-25 19:33Hi all.
I'll be heading down to Point Peron tomorrow for sunrise throwing around some lures in search of salmon and anything else.
I've never been before so I was hoping some generous individuals would share their favourite locations in this area.
I was thinking of trying the area on the south end (just south of the car park), and the beach as you head east. Is this side or the northern or western side better?
Another area I was thinking of was the area east of the boat pens on the northern side, or the western beach south of the cape along Lease Rd.
Where should I start and where should I move as the day moves on.
Thanks for your help!

First trip off hedland
Submitted by Craig Pearse on Sun, 2010-04-25 18:45
Sorry no pics , I forgot the camrea,
Today was the best weather I have seen for a while. Started with a bottom bash but not much happned, but did land 2 big chinas( put back). Then went for a troll and raised 1 billie with it messing around for a minute or 2 then left us with much discuss. Scored a little mack and then watching the sounder I saw the biggest lump I have ever seen full of fish.
20mins later 2 trout 59, 64 1 rankin 68 1 red 62 and 2 saddle tails both low 60.
It has been 3 months from the last time i fished (in karratha) and was very happy to wait for all this time to go out in my new town.
Cracker of a day,
Craig

burly
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sat, 2010-04-24 18:08a little while ago a posted up about making my own burly out of your old fish frames/old bait/shit fish.
i finally got time to modify the chipper and it works a treat, you do get the ocassional big piece, but this minced up hole heads and frames.
i even managed to get an(donated) 8kg dhuy head and frame down in one go.
frames to be fronzen first, dose not work as good on raw stuff, i also noted that it would be best to freeze the frames flat, instead of being all twisted up in a coles bag.
i just got out the big gimpy and bashed them flat (learn by your mistakes)
then remove the top piece and clean up was easy, now i know it works i will make the top out of ally.
![]()
this is the minced up product out of the chipper
adding in the pollard/breadcrumbs/oil in my mixing bowl (an old bath tubb i converted to a hydro bath for my dogs work as an exellent mixing bowl) and so easy to clean
the finished product, freeze in my fish freezer, ready packaged for easy use, fits into my pvc pipe burly cage i made
now for the test to see if it works? cant see why not.
no more throwing out my unused bait or stinking the bin out with fish frames, its all getting chopped up.
another thing i noticed when making it, is the flys were hanging around the old frames sitting on the ground, as soon as it was minced up they would not go near it, dont figure hey?
test it tomorrow.

boating tragedy today
Submitted by bod on Sat, 2010-04-24 17:41One dead, two hurt in serious injury
Chris Robinson Perth Now April 24, 2010 5.16pm
One man has died and two other men are in hospital after a tragic boating accident off the coast of Two Rocks this afternoon.
The RAC rescue helicopter located the three men some time after 3pm this afternoon after they had been separated from their 4-metre overturned dinghy.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene. The two remaining men were taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where one – a 14-year-old boy – remained in a serious condition yesterday evening.
Members of the Two Rocks Volunteer Sea Rescue Group spotted the overturned vessel about five nautical miles off the Two Rocks coast at around 1:20pm.
Police say the men had set off on the boat earlier today.
Police are yet to determine the relationship between the three men.

Going to Exmouth for work!
Submitted by Auslobster on Fri, 2010-04-23 19:42While every other mongrel on here is going up there for holidays I'm going up to remove asbestos. Never been, don't know if I'll have time for a proper fish. Looking at Google maps the marina appears to be a handy little destination to get a couple of casts in after work. Love to use lures, particularly soft plastics....anybody have any sort of experience up there doing this?
Hoping to go a little further afield but just don't know how much time I'll have, any help will be appreciated. Oh, and if anybody's up there with a boat at that time (yeah YOU Jamie) I don't get seasick, won't drink all your piss, and I give all my fish away! And I won't call you a mongrel again!
