 Not having a dig at new rules. But they suck -icks. 3 divers all guaged and turned over ( 8 each).had to let 3 go . 1 diver went down after dive to get other 3 . Bloody hard to see fine hairs. Tar.eggs. Hairy girls easy  . Fine hairs impossible . It's crap . Going to be issues in future. . It's bull--it. Endangering  divers in my book.

2 good mornings down at Cheynes with the boat. Heaps of fish around in close about 10min run out from the beach launch. First morning was good with quite a few fish and of couple of big bust off's.

second morning even more fish and a little dhu that went just over at 55cm which was a nice surprise and we let a lot of good fish go on the second morning as the esky was full I and had more than enough fish to clean.

I dont put reports up on the net much but this day was magic.

I fished FFB solo the other day after sambos and kg's, weather and fishing were rough to start with but came good in the end. Plenty of whales about as well making plenty of noise.

Picked up the targets with the highlights a thumper sambo which went 150ish cm and a few Kg to 51cm.  Would have been better if the ban was off as I got a thumper baldie on the kg spot as well as plenty of other yummy fish I couldnt keep.  All fish released well except for the Big sambo which I couldnt revive and the baldie which was gut hooked. It was extremely hard to put the baldie back knowing its fate. 

I put the baldie pic up against my better judgement. Was a solid fish at 66cm. Im sure the baldie was wondering if I would release him going by the look in the eye!

Headed out behind the ships from bunno today. Three dives in 30m or there abouts for three of us. Crays weren't to thick but we were swimming on good ground which made for nice diving. Vis was about 15m, few fish swimming around to tease us as well. 17 crays in total

Put this together from earlier this year, camera mount was a bit dodgy so have to sort that out next time.

Starting at 2 .30 in the morning I headed south in the tinny with the old man to get away from this pesky demersal ban.

We arrived at 6 in the morning to head out through a dodgy inlet mouth and much larger than anticipated swells for the 14 foot tinny

Ended up having a ball of a day catching 9 Demersals and a leatherjacket!

There was also plenty of big SBT's about as well which we were going to chase when we bagged out but unfortunalty the weather turned before we could do that.

A 12 KG dhu, 5 Queenies (biggest around 85cm), 2 Breaksea and a pinky. I also finally got to christen the new saltiga as well.

Was a great day with the old man and was not bad for 2 and a half hours fishing !

Also a while ago I got the chance to fish Quobba again. The fishing was slow but I did manage to get a few Cod and the Highlight was 2 12KG Cobia on lures !

Finally got the tinny out on Saturday and tried a new spot I've been eyeing off, less than a km offshore. Managed 3 queens, a small sambo, BA and a nice harlequin in about 24-33m.
My young fella was stoked with his PB queenie, went a smidge over 6kg and about 780mm.
Nice morning out and back home by 11am as the good old seabreeze came in early as it normally does.

So my daughter wanted to go cruising in the boat. I said yep, we will cruise out to sea for a fish, then cruise back. Had a pretty good couple of hours fishing.

Farkin Jeesarz, there's some whopper crays around ATM! We were doin a recon dive to locate my snapped anchor from 2 weeks ago, but obviously took loops with us. Found the anchor, and a new honey-hole!! I haven't seen a jumbo nest like this, except for the Abrolhos. You know it's good when you've gotta surface mid-dive, just to empty/make room in your bag. Absolute Farkin  booooolshit how good it was. There's a cray in there that would beat my FW record, but accidentally snapped a few legs off trying to bag him. 

Stung it back to woodies full throttle with a couple frosty ones, home by 11. Bloody belter of a day.

 Went out on Friday, the plan was to pull pots then try for some KGs and have a little troll.... Got pb KG 50cm and a little school mack, along with some whiting, a few crays and an occy that had cleaned out one of the pots.

Plenty of crays around Rocko in 3-6m of water. We had lovely conditions yesterday with crystal clear viz, was a pleasure to go out and harvest some of the oceans treats. 

Water was cold tho, 16degrees!

 Young bloke had some fun on the jigs got a couple nice fish . Unfortunately his mate Riley got trevally and sharks poor bugger was devastated hahaha

  Found what seemed to be the only non-weedy beach north of Perth last night and managed to pull this sucker out .

I usually return my mullys but this one wouldn't go back so was given to a local bloke down the beach , who was absolutely over the moon haha .

I was looking at my profile and noticed that I had been a member of this forum for 3 years and never posted anything, mainly because i didn't have anything worth posting about.  I managed a few fish before the ban and thought I would put up the pictures and say a big thanks to the regulars (Ryan & Oceanside Crew, Little Johnny, Little Andy etc) who's posts I have stalked to help me keep going when I thought it just wouldn't happen. 

The first two fish were caught on the same day one went 79cm the other 86cm, we had 7 runs that day but lost 5  fish due to rookie errors (knots, leader too light, drag too tight etc). We used lightly weighted scalies, lots of burley and made sure we were at our spot before the sun came up. My father in law has been coming along as my deckie and he managed to lose all three fish that he had on that morning so he wasn't happy. He hasn't done alot of fishing and he must of thought I was full of it until he saw the first fish come over the side of the boat.

The third fish went 81cm and was caught the following weekend which was a full moon, I think we were lucky to get it because there was nothing happening that morning and my father in law managed to get his first and the only fish/bite of the day (He is still showing the pictures to everyone nearly six weeks later).

The times we fished there was about a 2m swell and bit of chop and the both of us found it hard just to stay on our feet with all the rocking, when I looked at some other boats they seemed fine they could have been playing scrabble and drinking cups of tea. I have 1996 Savage Scorpion 4.85m which has an aluminium hull and a fibreglass cuddy cabin and I wanted to ask how much difference in stability is there when going to a plate aluminium hull or even a fibreglass boat? I have contemplated upgrading to a newer boat similar to the one I already have (pressed aluminium) but for extra stabiliy should I be looking at the other options. 

I know I should probably start a new post for the previous question but it has taken 3 years to get this far.

Headed out for the last fish before the ban to chase some dhu fish. Mates took their boat out of Mindarie and got a call (about 7am) to say that had bagged out on dhu fish before I even got a line wet (including a nice fish at 10.6kg), now the pressure was on to produce. Morning started a bit slow with some choppy seas and just a few sharks. Ended up hooking up at about 1030am, didn't feel like much initially, but then took off on a couple nice runs, then up popped this dhu banger at 89cm (12.0kg).

Happy days. Put a few fillets in the freezer.

Quick run out from Cockburn ramp on Wednesday, bit choppy early on but calmed down. Few undersize Dhue’s on the five fathom bank then headed out a couple more miles to the 38m mark and then Brian brings this over the side. First ever metro blue grouper coming in at 12kg. Have caught plenty off the coast of Walpole up to 20kg. Was the last chance for a demersal fish before the ban and then as I’m off to the States and Canada Dec/Jan won’t be back out till February.

 Got a chance to get away with an old mate to finally pop his mullaway cherry after six years countless hours I met  up with Tangles we done it in 6 hours the first night welcome to the 20kg club mate.

Could have bagged out but only kept 1 more 90cm fish, and released about 8 between 60-90 cm. Macca had put in the hours over the years and deserved his fish 2 60cm 1 80 cm and a 130cm 20+ kg mulloway along with a few chopper as well

I was lucky enough to take and test some products from Shorecatch for Tangles Kalbarri land based tours and this stuff works absolute quality

Bait spotted herring,mullet fillet,cured bonito fillet, shark Bay squid and skippy

Burly fish based burly and mullie shred blocks I also made a mulloway shred blend on one of Mick's shred days of trevaly tailor and mullet 

It was great for a trip and a massive thanks to Mick from Shorecatch for the quality bait and burly and Tangles land based tours for putting us on the meat

 How's it going 

With the Demersal ban starting up in a few days the brother and I decided to make the most of the good weather and try put some fillets in the freezer . We left from two rocks at about 10 once the easterly was dropping off and shot straight out into about 40m of water . We had a few drifts over about 4 different lumps with absolutely no action until we came across a spot that was holding fish . I was fishing pe4 and an orange/gold caprice being my trusty old jig of choice . We dropped over and within about two jigs of the rod I was hooked up , but with a quick 5 second run the fish pulled the hooks . I left the jig down there and continued to work it as I had done before , within another 5 jigs I was on again , this time the hooks were set . The fish smoked me  for a good 10 minutes before I wrangled him up off the bottom . We knew it was going to be a solid fish but did not expect the absolute horse that popped up beside the boat ! We had one more drop and managed another 6kg specimen and decided to pack it in , pulled back into the marina at about 12.30 , not a bad couple hours work ! 

Weighed the fish back at home once bled and mangled by the fisheries for the ear bones and still tipped the scales at 23kg , absolutely stoked !

So who else is excited for then demersal ban?! I'd say nobody on this forum is haha. Its not all doom and gloom though, the sambos are upon us and you dont have to go too far to find the fish, I catch fish in water as shallow as 3m every spring-summer, usually not too far away from the tailor schools, but the decent jigging schools start from about 25m. Pull ya pots, get a feed, then go get your arms stretched!

Have had a few trips up to Geraldton over the last few weeks and managed to get away early on the way home for a lure sesh on the greenbacks. 

A few productive sessions transpired to keep me smilin too.

The week before last I had my gopro on me so was hoping to capture the odd hookup.  I got a few!

a bit late, a few photos from our Exmouth trip at Easter.

 At long last, i happened to be at home on break at the same time some of the lads were planing a trip to Exmouth. I started the task of ringing around to try get a few crew for my boat, but when the time was getting close and still not enough able to crew my tinnie. I got an invitation to jump on another boat as a deckie.

So i exchanged all the equipment a responsable skipper would take, with beer and moonshine and headed to kalbarri for a night so see the oldies. 2:30am departure from there the next morning towards exmouth had me catch up to an old friend in his truck doing the paperrun to canarvon. Its always nice to have someone to chat to at that time of the morning for those drives.  

Met up with the lads that arvo and set up camp in the caravan park and got a bit of a gameplan together for the week to come. The next 3 days were not really the best weather, but after driving all that distance and living in Geraldton, a little bit of wind was never going to stop us.

First day we went 2-1-0. Was a good day to get routines and all sorted out. bit of a catchup with the lads and just crusing around the ocean, with beers in hand.

Second day we went 0-0-0 and returned home broken. Seen a few free jumpers, but just couldnt get anything to strike. 

Third day we 2-2-1. Whoop whoop, got one to the boat at last. Finished up a bit ealier this day so we could drop past the local tackle shop for a bit of advice. Walked out with a bunch of new skirts and a whole lot of wisdom from the crew. I can see why everyone goes on about this shop, it was worth the trip up there just to listen to what they had to say. 

Forth Day went 5-5-3. So it would seem, all we had to do was swallow our pride and listen to some local advice and change a few tatics and the results spoke for themselves. 

Fifth day. 8-7-4. Today was forcasted to be the best day of the trip, so an early start had us dropping that boat in the water just after the sun was up and the sun was down by the time we pulled back into the caravan park. A quiet few beers and an early night.

Sixth and final day had us out there for an early start. Went 2-2-1 for the day with an early finish also. Got back to the camp and started the depressing task of packing gear away ready for the drive home. As i drove up seperate to the others, i was going to head back and try make it for our "kiddy combo" comp back in Gero the next morning, so i hit the road about 18:00 and managed to get home in time for a few hours sleep before my crew rocked up at home to get my tinnie ready for a day on the water. 

There were the 3 of us on this boat and we each landed 3 blacks each over the week, as well as another 2 boats (both with 2 ppl on board) that came up with us. For a few of us, these were our first marlin that we actully managed to land and there has been a lot of trial and error in the process leading up to this trip. Ive got a week up there between Xmas and new  years for a friends wedding, so i think the boat might be coming for a little road trip, if i can find a crew....
