One last drop
Submitted by Troyboy on Thu, 2016-08-11 19:09Went out of Two rocks about a week ago solo, Got on the water early with high hopes, tried Bait and jigs, anchored burley on a few spots that have produced before but not much luck accept a nw blowie on the jig, the pickers didn't even seem to be picking.
Naturally about an hour before I had to head in things glassed off the sounder started to light up and fish started to bite, a slightly undersize blackspot rock cod I believe it was first up, never seen one down here before didn't get a photo so no proof, can anyone confirm that's what it could have been? I thought they were usually a bit further North. Then a small reef shark which took one hook off the paternoster, one hook one last drop and bingo finally something half decent.
Rougly 46cm not huge but still happy as first time I've caught one.

4 Drop Day - Deep Drop
Submitted by mallesh on Fri, 2016-07-29 12:39Haven't done a deep drop for a while, so plan was to hit the water at 6am.
Man what a day on the water. One of the best days I have seen on metro waters.
Anyway straight to our deep drop spot in 410 meters and fish on the sounder.
First 2 drops 2 good blue eye. Mate and I decided we leave them alone and come back if we don't catch any other species.
So moved into our 320 meter spot and did 2 drops. First drop for a GB and second drop resulted in a slightly bigger fish and a greeneye.
Left the fish biting and back at the boat ramp just after lunch.
Cheers

PB Queenie and Cod
Submitted by Pondy on Thu, 2016-07-21 13:07G'day guys,
This was from Exmouth back in March. Caught plenty of the usual mackies, spangos, trevally, sharks but these were a couple of the best for the trip.
Queenfish was caught on sunset from the beach and went well over a metre. Malabar Cod was caught out in the Gulf. Both fish were released.
Cheers, Pondy

Is this a good salmon?
Submitted by Kezza5203 on Mon, 2016-07-18 20:10Caught a decent salmon today north of Perth. Came in at 87cm and about 7 kilos. Took about 20 mins to land and was hooked while reeling in a bream that managed to hook it self.
Is this a good salmon and how big can they get.

Excuse the photo, forgot to turn my head lamp off. Also caught loads of Pinkys. It was hard going though, first 3 nights turned up no fish until we cracked the code.

Plan for a solo run got the goods
Submitted by rigpig on Thu, 2016-07-07 08:59Decided to take a day off work yesterday as the weather looked good and the next few days is going to be awful. The plan was to go out behind the FFB to see if I could pick up a dhuie, then come into the Sound for a few squid and then finish off with a Pink Snapper to complete my bag. With an easterly blowing I headed 20+ klm offshore to a spot and the sounder lit up (screenshot it but left it on the sounder). Got my drift worked out and put the sea anchor over the side and drop down a fresh lump of occy. two minutes and it was on. Looked over the side and was stoked, first part of the plan done. a 690mm Dhui. Part two, headed back into the Sound and had a drift around the weed beds and picked up six squid pretty quickly and then moved out behind GI for part three. Anchored up and got some burley going, cracked a can, put two rods out free floating mullies and got comfortable for the wait.. It glassed off and was great out there. Dead on sunset one rod buckled and line started to peel off at a rapid pace and soon after I had a 670mm pinky onboard. Being solo for the day that was my bag limit and I was one happy fisher.. Happy Days... Not record breaking sizes but enough for a family Sunday lunch.

Barraddict Sportfishing Charters - Eco Beach
Submitted by breamspanked on Fri, 2016-06-24 15:13Hi guys, was in Broome last week on a family holiday and had a fantastic experience catching Sailfish.
Was originaly booked on another charter but they phoned me the day before and cancelled.
They gave me Kurt Williamson's number from Barraddict so I phoned him and he accomodated me on a last minute request.
So glad it turned out how it did.
I have NEVER experienced fishing like that!
We landed 11 Sailfish between three of us - I landed 3 and one Spanish Mackerel.
Kurt is very experienced and knows those waters extremely well. He took us straight out to where the Sailfish were and before we knew it we had triple hook-ups.
I definitely recommend that charter!
Previous to this I hadn't caught anything bigger than a Salmon so you can imagine how I felt : )

Horse pink from the shallow stuff
Submitted by brenz on Wed, 2016-06-08 09:50Gday guys,
Just a quick post from a recent trip we did (a month and a half ago approx) in the shallow stuff where my partner nailed this monster pink @ 102 cm ! ( the fish was not revivable hence us keeping it as usually it would be a release job)
This year so far the pinks have been going crazy with it being easy pickings on almost everty trip.

Shark Bay
Submitted by crowie on Tue, 2016-05-17 08:34
Well i Had a wicked time up in shark bay and the fishing was nothing short of what i had hoped. Some more mackies would have been good though ;)
Monday the 25th was like a millpond all the way from Denham to steep point, it made for a beautiful ride all the way there and back. We didn't have much luck on the west side of steep point bottom bouncing, we tried for reds and whatever bottom dwellers we could get but found nothing but blowies in the deeper water. Came in closer to the cliffs (60 to 70m away not deep) and bottom bashed around there and only got small stuff but when i got the stickbait out and started casting at the cliffs... BAM first mack of the trip. Went to dirk hartog southern end and ended up getting a couple of just size baldies and a nice GT.
Tuesday we went north to the tip of Dirk hartog and found some good fish but plenty of sharks too. Any fish over about 500mm had no chance of making it past the bronzies, we tried everything. Kept moving but couldnt find fish in abundance only stragglers here and there. Still managed to bag out on red throat, we also got 2 shark mackies and a spaniard. A first for my cousin was a 2.5m bronzie on a 45gram Jig... pinned him in the corner of the mouth so we got it all the wat to the boat before the managed to turn the right way and cut the line. The way back wasn't much fun as the southerly kicked up to 20 knots and we had to punch into it so we downed a few more beers to numb the pain and still managed to do 40kmh all the way home which took 2 hours.
Wednesday we went for a bash in the dinghy on the monkey mia side and went as far north in the cars as we could and then we launched the dinghy. Within 10 min of trolling we nailed a 1m cobia which spat the hook right at the boat.... SPEWIN !!! We kept goin and by the time we got to cape peron we had 4 Golden Trevalleys, 3 shark macks and an undersize spaniard. Plenty of fun in the dinghy. What the close call was though was the fuel in the dinghy. By the time i got back and got out of the boat to put it on the trailer, the tank felt empty, my estimation on how much fuel was left would be less than half a litre. Perfect haha
Thursday was a day of no boating due to wind so we went to cape peron again without the boats and went landbased to see what we could get. My cousin paddles out the burley on his paddle board and about 10 min later there was a 2m tiger shark in the shallows, so out went the boat rod and after spitting out 2 baits, 3rd time lucky we hooked him. Reel screams off but we manage to stop him and get him on the beach for a group photo before sending him back. box ticked yessss
Friday the wind was still shit so we just hung out in town for a much needed day of rest.
Saturday the wind didn't look too bad for another trip south so we loaded up and went for it. No bottom species were biting for us and we only managed 3 bonito. But still, any day on the boat, is a good day.
Sunday we packed up and left early and just out of town my brother managed to clip skippy, lucky though, no damage.
This will become a yearly thing with the family i think. love it

ANother Dhue - Same Jig
Submitted by Stockman on Thu, 2016-05-12 13:10Caught this little bloke on the last drop for the day, last week, South of Mindarie. Didn't put it on the lie detector, but probably went a little over double digits.
Had been a pretty quiet day allround, plenty of small stuff early, landed 6 or seven just size and under Dhues, all released in good knick.
Tried out a few different jigs during the day, sizes, brands and colours, but the old faithful, a cheap Seeker just keeps coming up trumps. To date, this same jig has nailed 20+ Dhues, Black ass, Pinkies, Sargie Bakers, Wrasse, Flathead, Skippy, Guernards and a King George. Only thing it hasn't caught is a Baldie?
Beat the bait boys again on the day.
