Anti reverse roller bearing lubrication?

 Hi everyone,

I recently serviced one of my reels and did the usual complete strip down / clean everything with white spirits and brake cleaner, reassemble with quality grease on the gears and oiled all bearings ect.

i was wondering what people normally do for servicing and lubricating anti reverse bearings (for a spin reel I mean) located just below the rotor head assembly. I know that if anti reverse assemblies are over oiled they can start to slip and not function correctly.

so if you do a strip down of a reel and you clean out the anti reverse bearings of any debris or foreign particles do you slightly grease the small roller bearings? Or give them a very light oiling? After all the do still rotate around a small rounded collar that attaches to the rotor shaft.

if anyone can shed some light on the best options for libricating or basic servicing for this particular reel part that would be great.

scano

 Anti-reverse roller bearings

Anti-reverse roller bearings must be oiled with a light weight oil such as sewing machine oil. Using grease or oil that is too thick on them will stop them working properly. You will know if what you used is unsuitable by the anti-reverse not engaging at all or being slow to engage.

If you don't have any luck

If you don't have any luck buying reel specific oil, I raced RC cars for a long time and we used

rchobbies.com.au/store/product_info.php

for all of our one-way bearings. RC car bearings were probably subject to higher loads but not as harsh an environment.

Just get some reel oil, shimano have little bottles in the box as do a lot of other manufacturers. If you ask nicely at your local tackle shop they might flick you a couple bottles for a couple of bucks that are lying around. If you want the good stuff, find some Rocket Fuel, from memory I think it is the Red label to do the anti reverse bearing the liquid grease is great but too think for this purpose. The Quantum Hot sauce is pretty good also. If and or when you dunk your reel this anti reverse is the priority for de saltwatering as this is the main part that will die after immersion. Now that you have pulled it apart I am sure you can see why... Did you open it up all the way and have to put all of the little springs and rollers back in?

The best stuff to use in clutch bearings is CorrosionX.

This was determioned by bench testing.

Use a coating of any of the above mentioned light oils, then poke a thin rolled up rag through the anti reverse and roll it around to pick up any excess without cleaning it off completely

 I use auto transmission

I use auto transmission fluid, it's thin, and formulated for anti reverse bearings, as in transmissions.
