AFL pre season should be dropped and each side plays the others twice, that way its fair to all sides and doesn't penalise the top eight finishers the next season, plus all teams get to travel interstate

Sun, 2016-11-13 21:35

Some of the stuff you may hear from humans and shooting'

.I had a shotgun that really kicked hard. Its totally relevant to the ammo you use eg solids vs target shells

.I head shot a roo on the move at 300m.You get out the range finder and it becomes 80-100m and it was stopped

.We were shooting SLRs and the bullets were bouncing back to where we were shooting. Its the guy next to you ejected cases

.My dad shoots rabbits in the head at 1000m.Not going to even comment on that.

I was wrong I did not think you can get a spotlight that even goes 300m let alone shoot that far but it can be done with the right gear and right people

Bring back the death penalty for extreme cases proven beyond a doubt( martin Bryant , Hoddle street killer etc).

All Harleys should be noise tested.

Any dog that attacks a person, or another dog (not a nip, Attacks), when off a lead should be shot and the owner charged. If you cant train it, dont own it.

Every person has the right to protect his family and property by ANY means. Not this bullshit, watered down, Equal and opposit force shit.

Mon, 2016-11-14 20:28

As a society everyone should be more tolerant of each other.  And that goes for people who immigrate here as much as it does for people born and raised here.  Everyone should respect everyone's right to practice a religion, and those practising any religion should respect the right of others to choose not to.  Those minority groups choosing to live in Australia should respect our right to continue on with our customs and beliefs.

The basics of all religions should be taught in school, not to brainwash, but to understand.  When we understand we tolerate, we accept, and we respect.

Also, why is being taught about religion a bad thing? Sure, you may not want your kids to practice it, but why be afraid of them knowing what it us. Let them make their own mind up. What have you got to fear?

You let schools teach sex education. Doesn't mean they are having sex at school does it.

I think religion scares some people because if their own insecurities.

Difference

Tue, 2016-11-15 07:47

The difference is Schools are there to provide education on a whole range of topics. Churches are not. Churches are a place of worship for that particular religion. You dont go to the WACA in January and then complain because they arent playing football. Its a cricket ground.

Schools are there to provide our kids with the knowlege they will need to help succeed/survive in society. Religion (whether you like it or not) is a huge part of ours and most other society. To understand why millions have a faith (even if you don't) equips people to better understand how to interact with others.

Its just a belief system.

The problem is with how it is

Tue, 2016-11-15 07:55

The problem is with how it is being taught. When pure superstition is being introduced as fact to young impressionable minds.
I have a problem when someone tries the teach little kids "talk to this imaginary being every night or you will burn in the eternal fires of hell"

Edit and FWIW: religion as a subject ie: these guys believe this and these guys believe that would be fine in education but it is never presented like that.

Burn

Tue, 2016-11-15 08:12

I think you may be slightly over exagerating that one. That really is straight out of the Reverend Fred Nile handbook of fire and brimstone.

Also, which state school teaches religion in the way you have described? Hell, I dont beleive a Christian based school would have said that in the last 50 years.

I think you will find that most parents teach their kids more crap based on their own ideas of "facts" on matters or politics, sex, religion and any other topic you wish to talk about. But I guess its the parents perogative to impose their own ideas (as right or as wrong as they may be) on a young impressionable mind. Plenty of F*cked up kids walking around spouting out the same f*cked up shit their parents do, all because they are too affraid to learn or get an opinion of their own based on knowledge and experience.

Expand your horizons people...you may find their is more to life than just tomato sauce. Sweet Chilli is also awesome, but you wont know if you never even look into it.

I also think people should definitely expand their horizons but believing in a book quite literally written by some farmers 2000 years ago to me just doesn't seem like expanding your horizons. :)

Heaven and hell

Tue, 2016-11-15 08:41

Yes they do believe in heaven or hell. How heaven or hell actually eventuates is anyones guess (if you believe in it). Doesnt meen you have to pray every night to avoid hell, or indeed to get into heaven.

Do Christians believe that creation took 7 days...yep, but perhaps 7 days is just a way of saying 7 stages...which may have taken 7 billion years.

As you said, it was written around 2000 years ago and not necessarily in English.

I am not a religious person.  But if i understood other peoples beliefs and cultures better, i believe i could be a better person myself.

I have no problem with people holding spiritual beliefs if it helps them through life.  However I do get annoyed when I and others are forced to abide by, pay for or practice the spiritual beliefs of others.

 The point Randall is trying

Tue, 2016-11-15 09:32

The point Randall is trying to make is that ignorance breeds fear like that fuckhead who leads the Australian patriot movement. I think it should be done in high school where kids are beginning to form adult  opinions, and only as an outline. Not to ram it down their necks.

I disagree mate but I am

Tue, 2016-11-15 10:00

I disagree mate but I am anti-religion and that's my view. I respect one's choice to follow a religion but much like and STD, prefer that they keep it to themself.

I'd rather the time was spent teaching kids about Aboriginal history and culture as well as Australian history in general. I only learned about Australian history because I elected history as my TEE unit in years 11 and 12 and learned about Aboriginal history and culture as part of one of my elective units at uni. I can guarentee i got a lot more from that than learning aobut an imaginary man in the sky.

Aboriginal studies

Tue, 2016-11-15 10:15

Would that have included any reference to the "dream time" or any other beliefs. That would constitute religion of sorts wouldn't it? You cannot tell me that you would have walked out of those classes where dream time was mentioned or referred to.

Aboriginal culture has a massive reliance of religion...wouldn't you say. But we are allowed to teach that in state schools arent we?

The unit was 'Sociology of Indigenous Health Issues' and covered family structure, diet, nomadic life etc before european settlement and then delved into the effect that white settlement had one all of those things up to the modern day. I'm sure the dreamtime was referenced somewhere in regard to their belief systems but it didn't delve into the theory behind dreamtime beliefs and the focus was on the tangible aspects of Aboriginal culture and history and no I didn't walk out when it was mentioned. Just like I attended a catholic church for my nephew's christening but the funny part about that is my brother asked me to be his godfather and the bloody priest turns to me and asks "will you bring the child up to believe in God almighty". You could have heard a pin drop when I responded with a "no".

 Interesting comparison jack.

Interesting comparison jack.  Because you have studied aboriginal history and culture do you think you have a better understanding and acceptance of indigenous issues?  If so, you are a good case study for the point i am trying to get across.  A better education of other peoples makes us better people.

Other people's cutlures, yes.

Tue, 2016-11-15 11:26

Other people's cutlures, yes. Culture and religion are two different things. Culture is how a person lives in regard to their interactions with others, behaviour and customs (including religions). Religion is a belief sytem of blind worship involving imaginary entities.

We can learn about one's culture without going into the theoretical aspects of their religion.

Well with most ethnic culture religion is entwined so it's unavoidable. I think you'd be very hard pressed to find one that isn't.

 Interesting reading this

Mon, 2016-12-05 10:57

Interesting reading this back and forth.

would love to see the basic beliefs/history of major religions covered in education system. Would hugely benefit our massively multicultural country by hopefully increasing understanding and reducing ignorance. JackFrost I don't think the agenda of this teaching should be to covert and you are right in thinking that this should be so, however it should be presented without bias by teachers (as much as possible) to encourage students to explore further as they wish.

How about there's no more Phuked up religion as Islam.

Theres is no place for it in western society and we should reject any more entering our country.

Ban Fluro and Work boots on planes

Mon, 2016-11-14 21:24

sick of sitting next to stinking fuckers on planes, have a shower and put on civilian's, its not that much effort. Worst offenders are office jockey engineers munching too much curry wearing the same shirts all week, and while I'm ranting unclip the gloves from your pants that have never been used. And the hand luggage is that, your 15 kg suit cases are meant to be in the hold.

I'm done now.

This is so true. I work FIFO

Mon, 2016-11-21 06:50

This is so true. I work FIFO and have never flown in work clothes. Once I've left site it's my time, why would anyone want to wear work gear any more than they have to?
