BEACH Sesh....still can't get away from gummies....but finally got my target species.
Went down for a cast last night, haven't been fishing for 2 months since I got my last couple of gummies from a beach. Mainly reasons of being overseas and losing motivation since I've been back in Oz.
After 2hrs and filtering through 6 eagle rays and 7 fiddler sharks I was loosing hope. Then one of my rods took off with belting headshakes.....I immediatly called if for a PINKIE upon picking up the rod which had that thumping feel.
My first LB pinkie, and a decent one at that which meant I had to compose the nerves a little. During the fight, i noticed my other rod was bouncing around.
After a 10min struggle with some long runs, managed to finally get over to my now settled rod and pull in a Gummy shark. Couldn't believe my luck.
Immediately, I packed up and went home. Enough fish for me for a while :)
I think i'll be waiting for those Spring Schoolies in Sept. before wetting a line again.

Funny thing is, I own a boat. But rarely use it, as its easier and I have just as much success from the shore.

Nah, worked hard on the Rays. Weather was ok, not too much rain, wind was strong though blowing my stuff around. Weed isn't a problem if you know how to fish from a beach :p

Beast of a pinkie there
Beast of a pinkie there buddy.
Never got one off the shore myself - well done!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

This pink was on squid, and
This pink was on squid, and the gummy on YT...go figure?
Running sinker, snelled SHARP hooks, thats all i ever use from the beach. Decent leaders, flurocarbon if i think there's sharks around or just mono if not.
Along with grapnels, as they hold like cement, even with weed dragging around. Problem is you loose them, like on this pinkie. As the fish runs that blistering fast any resistance like weed on your line...PING...it busts off your sinker trace. Which is good, means its only you and your dream fish, nothing to interfere.
Works for me anyway. And if you look last 3 months of my posts, its been mullas, gummies and pinkies from the beach for me ;-)

Never really looked at
Never really looked at flurocarbon leaders as I use steel most of the time, is it tougher than mono? How does it go casting, is it still as soft?
Couldnt agree more with grapnels and a lighter trace, get a decent pickup and you dont need to worry about the sinker any more....
Congrats on the fish mate and good on ya for getting out in winter never mind in this kinda weather! nice work

Fluro is slightly stiffer and
Fluro is slightly stiffer and way more abrasion resistant than mono. Casts alright but its also alot more expensive. I use it when targeting mulloway/small sharks.

Well i use wire on sharks
Well i use wire on sharks too, but if you're not targetting them. I use fluro is what i mean. As it gives you half a chance to land one, as its very hard to cut, even with a knife.
