Getting into the bigger Swan River tailor
Submitted by 20307391 on Fri, 2017-06-09 09:27
Hi all,
I've been lurking on the forums here for a while, and I must say there is a lot of helpful information! Kudos to you all.
Recently I've been flicking lures beneath the Narrows bridge once or twice a week and have been getting amongst a few choppers, but thus far all fish are under size.
Do the big fish flush out of the river for the winter? Or should I be using the bigger lure-bigger fish theory?
I've mostly been using 20-30g metals and a few small bibbed minnows.
I've had mulies out on a paternoster rig simultaneously most times, however this has not been as successful. It does seem to keep the fish around though.
The little guys are good fun to catch, but would be nice to walk away with a couple in the bucket.
Cheers
C

They're definitely in there
They're definitely in there mate. We caught these in December around Pt Resolution and Matilda Bay all over the 45+ mark.
We were trolling 140mm+ diving minnows through the birds and then casting once we hooked up. We found the smaller tailor were shying away and we only caught the larger models.

Nice bag
That's a nice bag there Jackfrost, thanks for the tip.
It's good to know there are some 40+ around.
Might pick myself up a couple of bigger lures today and see what I can muster over the weekend!

I think it's very seasonal
I think it's very seasonal dependant but the big ones can definitely be found in the swan. Saw a few photos of 60cm+ fish from last summer

Thanks for the input.A
Thanks for the input.
A friend and I thought we had seen a few 60cm+ schooling around Canning Bridge a few weeks ago, but I have since seen the fish jumping and believe them to be Mullet - maybe I am wrong though? They weren't interested in lures on that occasion.
In fact, we saw an Osprey dive bomb and carry one of about 40cm off into the distance... amazing stuff.

Unfortunately I've only been able to get out early AM. Late nights aren't really possible at the moment with a fresh little fellow at home!
I might give Claremont Jetty on my way to work when the conditions are looking favourable.
Thanks for the suggestions!
