Going to Walpole in Jan, can anyone give me some info on fishing there?

HI there. Going to Walpole in jan, and staying at the Coalmine Caravan Park. IM taking my 4.2 m runabout down with me. I was wondering if anyone had any info on the following.

What fish do you catch in the inlet? Is it a concrete boat ramp?  What wind speed/direction and swell would i be looking at before i could go out and brave the high seas in my wee boat?   Any help would be mint...cheers Wade

Walpole In Jan

For a start, there is no problem getting the boat in the water. Just have a pint in the pub, step outside and go for it! The inlet is full of great fishing. I have sat on the launch ramp and caught some really good Black Bream and KG Whiting are also there. I am no expert at going out of the inlet but I am sure you will get plenty of commentary from others. Not so sure I would brave the Southern Ocean in a tinnie though.

Cheers, Vince

Whilst I haven't yet fished the inlet, the local guys down here certainly kill the pig with some very good bream, KGs and lizards (flatties).

As for heading out in the Southern Ocean - yes, doable, but in your boat pick your days and be very cautious and don't be too brave or reckless.

Adam  could probably add some more.

Fishing Walpole

Googling as I do I came up with the story below. It pretty much sums up what we have already said. Being there for me is enough enjoyment so go there have some fun. Drop a net and tell us if crabs are there ;)

If you can get a back issue of WAFM from a month or so ago, Dror Pietch did a write up on fishing Walpole. Great place and I'll be there myself for 2 weeks over the Chrissie period.

Can't wait. Summer means giant herring, plenty of bream, big skippy, herring, KG and sand whiting, snapper, flathead and even the odd tailor.

It's the one with my ugly mug on the cover with the GH.

PM me your mobile and we'll keep in touch closer to the day. I'm back on the 4th for work, to get some more $$$ for Exmouth on Feb, but I can let you know where we were catching. If you can't get a copy I might have a spare as well.
