Hyden to Norseman shortcut ?

 Gday there FW crew,

I'm heading over the west coast of SA later in the week driving from Margs and was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of roads that get you through from Hyden towards Norsman?

I dont have my trusty maps book as a mate has permanantly borrowed it it seems so i thought i'd ask you guys...

I've done the southern route cutting off Esperance and coming out around Grass patch i think it is from memory and I've also taken the punt on the Lake King/Norseman track that i'd rather not bother with again a couple of times....

I'm in a Hilux towing a Jetski so i'd rather stick to decent roads if possible unless i can knock a couple of hours of the long haul....

Cheers,

Tim

Yea definitely check for road conditions and find out if it's even open.

Not sure how much rain they have had out that way but it generally doesn't take much rain to close the road.

I have not been along that road for a couple of years but when I did travel through there it was in good condition and a pleasure to drive.

If you don't have one I would highly recommend a stone guard/deflector for your trailer so you don't damage your ski.!!

G'day Tim, Its a decent road

G'day Tim,

Its a decent road in the dry, can get a bit shitty like any gravel road in the wet but still passable no worries. I have been on it heaps of times, sometimes in a 2wd.
But get ready for 250+Kms of gravel.....hope you have a cover on the ski, or even better a stone guard

 Cheers fellas,

I cant even see the road google maps thats the main reason i posted here....

I'll lay a thick canvas on the trailer then winch the ski on top of it and then tuck it into the cover....

I learnt my lesson on the Lake King/Norseman rd

 Hyden-Norseman Rd is not

Mon, 2016-05-30 20:42

Hyden-Norseman Rd is not bad.  I've driven it to within about 50km of Norseman.  Generally pretty well graded.  Not sure if it's marked on maps but there is a new section toward the Norseman end that is much better.  Rain is most likely to close it at the Norseman end I think.

Vouch for lake King/Norseman rd crap

Mon, 2016-05-30 23:21

Found the photo above while looking for similar shortcut, went lk King/Norseman rd, was ok in Lake Grace shire half, then went to s#*t pretty quickly. Ended up saving fuel but not much time, definitely wouldn't go with a trailer.

It's a good road in pretty good condition. Used to get rough when Maggie Hays mine was running, but they are closed now.

No problem in a 2wd.
