Lost Rankin?

Picked up this nicely marked Rankin Cod in 47m off Jurien Bay over the weekend. Just another example of northern fish moving further south. Happy to say it released very well, with no signs of barotrauma.

Nice markings on that little beauty. Hopefully catch him again in a few years time :)

Rate them very high. Was he released due to already a boat limit reached because on my boat he'd be in the slurry in a hurry.

Fishing Comp...

Nah, was in a fishing competition against the Marmion Angling and Aquatic Club. Mickc referenced it in a post in the Reports section. Unfortunately Rankin wasn't on the species list, so with a limit of two category 1's, it didn't make sense to keep it. I would have liked to.

Excellent eating, right up there. Easily as good as Dhu.

As long as they are not too big. We've killed a couple of 10KG fish, too chewy. Our cut-off for keepers is now 7kg, just beautiful eating. There were always a few around Kalbarri, more common nowadays. Don't be put off by any encysted worms in the stomach cavity, they share these with both Coronation Trout and Coral Trout, do not affect eating quality
