Mackies - where to find
Submitted by Percula on Thu, 2015-01-08 13:02
Hey Guys
Going to chase some mackies on the weekend for a bit. Just wondering if you have any further hints/tips for me.
I have heard you look for birds, try behind 3 mile and around rotto. Is that basically it? I see some guys catching some good stuff in little boats so they can't be too far out. Each time I am in close though I hardly see a bird, let alone a flock going nuts over something.
Also where is the chicken run? Is it the SW of rotto?
Anyway wish me luck. Weather looking fairly good on Sunday and hoping it stays that way. They are around just gotta find one!!

birds
your on the right track mate. Just make sure you have a casting rod rigged and ready to go as the schools can spook easily if trawling and casting is often more effective.

Lol
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

There was a massive school
There was a massive school under us when we were whiting fishing just behind 3 mile in 20m on monday. Got a suicidal one on bait and chucked it as a livie but no luck. We had heaps of pollard from previous trips and were just chucking that out which must have attracted them
