Pe4-5 rod help
Submitted by turts on Sun, 2012-06-24 18:24
Hi guys was lucky enough to win a saltist 6500! Looking for an appropriate rod to match
I know it's more suited as a pe6-8 reel but I'm planning to run 50lb on it
Any advice on a rod to tee it up with
So far looking at....
Tcurve jig spin 200
Saltiga hiramasa 63s
Saltiga combi jerk 64
Hiramasa 63s may be more appropriate for pe4 rather than 50lb?
Also already have outlaid a bit on Catalina 6500 jigging outfit and a saltiga 4000 outfit already so wanna try not to go too expensive in the rod side of things if possible...
Look forward to your thoughts!
Cheers

Both of those daiwa rods
Both of those daiwa rods will be way too light for the saltist. Tcurve is ok. Id look at a jigging master or monster mesh max if on a budget

Yeh I thought it may not
Yeh I thought it may not balance too well as the 6500 is fairly weighty....
Havent looked at the monster mesh yet cheers!

Lemax
Have a look at the lemax range. I'm very happy with them, I've got the slimax Pe 2-4 which I rate very highly and last christmas I bought Dad a Firebull Pe 5-6 which has shutdown a few big fish so far.

Absolute ball buster of a rod, full of grunt! now my favourite rod.
Using with a Stella 8k running PE 6 Daiwa boat braid!
Couple pics giving it hell! and high cticking the shit out of it!

G'day Turts
Both myself and a mate have Demon Blood CJ64's - I run a Shimano twinpower on mine with PE3. My mate uses a Saltiga 6500 GT loaded with 65lb braid. We just came back from 2 weeks at Coral Bay and Carnarvon and these rods knocked over everything from Goldband on jigs in 140m to 8ft Whalers in 25m and just about everything in between on jigs, lures and bait. The 6500 looks unbalanced but he loves it. The CJ64 is great to use, light and extremely powerful. I could not recommend highly enough.
Good luck !

Thanks guys I'll have to
Thanks guys I'll have to suss out the specs of a few of those rods it seems
Im starting to think however tht 50lb may be a bit too light for the reel more so for the rod to match. Judging by the weight of it seems will be too unbalanced on a pe5 rod.....
However....
Checked out the jigging master and the 300s/400s look pretty sweet!
Also the monster mesh max MXS 250 spin looks like it would be a not bad rod also
Im not overly keen on the reel due to its high speed ratio as will be a backup outfit for bottom bashing but can't complain seeing as it didn't cost me anything!
Appreciate the input so far thanks to all!

Lucky you winning a saltist 6500
Mate I would have a look at a Samurai Jig10. For that size reel just awesome. Had it balanced with a Stella 8000SW and just awesome as PE4-6-8(pushing 8). A nasty Noah claimed the combo overboard due to some human input stupidity but then another birthday will see its return, and I aint changing anything. If you need more grunt a Jig12 but that is a serious rod and a little heavy IMO for what you seem to require.
I also have 2 spin Monster Mesh PE4-6 with saragosa 8000's and an OH MM with a saltist 30T which is awesome combos. I dont think the MM's are in the same league as the Samurai though. Just love the rod.
But then they arent on the cheap end off the scale.
