Google it, there is a procedure that is quite easy to follow, unless done properly there is always that doubt in the back of your mind

Sun, 2015-11-15 06:40

Reece,

I think the process is re-name it, then drink 200-250 exports on it in the driveway, talking shit with at least 5 different mates - Girly from the Tav doing a show is optional, but will be viewed positively - then it will be ok. The only boats I have re-named have been the ones that havent tried to kill me. I renamed the 680 Haines and had no problems and my current boat which has 1800 trouble free hours on it now. A couple either side of those 2 havent gone so well....

The superstition generally only refers to ships, not boats - so we get off on a technicality.

 All good, have a naming

Sun, 2015-11-15 07:28

All good, have a naming ceremony and smash a bottle on the front. Fyi if you shake the bottle up they shatter into a million pieces which is pretty average!

Does it actually NEED a name?

Sun, 2015-11-15 08:34

So many dickhead/aggro/poor double entendre boat names out there...if it must have one, try  and stay classy, at least.

Haha, I do see your point though, some arent very good, but some are quite amusing, well though out and some have pretty good stories behind them.

 My boat (penguin huntress)

Sun, 2015-11-15 09:20

My boat (penguin huntress) currently doesn't have a name.  When I've finished redoing it, I am thinking of naming it "Huntress Reborn". Haha!

What do you guys think?

No Name

Sun, 2015-11-15 10:22

I've never had a name on my boat. Havent seen the need. Then again a 4.5 mtr tinnie isnt all that inspiring. I think the Titanic had been re named before she sailed & nothing went .. Oh no wait.

Just kidding, its only superstition. Name it what you like

Think First

Sun, 2015-11-15 10:24

Think of us poor sea rescue operators who have to call the boat name out x 3 as per radio protocol and then write it down.
A lot of names sound good but when they come over the radio are nearly indecipherable

Rego

Sun, 2015-11-15 11:56

We still ask for the rego number but most boats sign off on the boats name.

In a way we are lucky because only during the Carnarfin fishing comp do we get over 60 boats logging in , not the hundreds every good weekend in the metro area, but it can still be a pain chasing it up when they have forgotten to log off

Yes in the metro area a Rego

Sun, 2015-11-15 13:52

Yes in the metro area a Rego (DOT number) is required on the log. Boat names are meaningless as they are not unique.

Sun, 2015-11-15 13:27

My Dad refurbed his boat 7 or 8 years ago and decided to change the name.

Before refurb Caught plenty of fish and had several successfull trips up north.

After the refurb did 2 trips up north and terrible weather every trip resulting in not many fish, also fishing at home wasn't the greatest. He had to sell the boat not long after.

I'm not superstitious and put this down to bad luck, but I refurbed my boat a few years ago and I bloody well made sure I kept the same name and knock on wood she catches fish and no problems with the boat. Hang on, maybe I am superstitious

I was going to change the name on my boat 'OVERTIME' but the name has now really grown on me as it is an apt description of how I paid for it. I'm just going to get my graphic designer wife to redesign it along with the rego to something mroe my style

My boat has a name

Sun, 2015-11-15 18:05

Given to it by the original owner, and I promised him I'd keep it. i have been guilty of naming a couple of new boats

  • Omega 16ft ali centre console I set up myself from a bare hull--Jabiru, becuase it was ugly but very effective
  • UB 19 Yamaha was Manta, because it reminded me of a manta the way it moved throgh the water
  • I have not been guilty since
  • And I ALWAYS use the rego to log on.

Mon, 2015-11-16 06:50

Never been a fan of renaming a boat... Boat I work on now was renamed years ago and always have it in the back of my mind. Whenever I talk to her I refer to her as Maria (boats old name) so hopefully thats enough to keep the big girl happy.

Thats what I'm talking about

Mon, 2015-11-23 10:38

saw 1 in exmouth at game ex years back called "deepinuranus"     Unquote.  What sort of c*ckhead would name a boat that. or is he just giving away his subliminal sexual preferences. Either way, you label yourself as a dick. Lowest common denominator, and all that.
