What do you lot do to earn a crust??? - 2010

Hi Crew,

Just saw the users post and the topic of what everyone does for a living came up and as noted, many of us have changed jobs and there are a heap of new members.

I'll start it off:

I used to work for DoF as a finfish researcher (spanglies, reds and spaniards), but now work at Marinefarms as an aquaculture technician growing barra and dolphinfish in Exmouth.  Also studying OHS at tafe this semester to go with a management degree that I studied previously.  Will hopefully be getting my coxwain's soon to go hunt coral trout for broodstock at work when our license goes through. :) I also have run/owned fishwrecked for the last 5 years, write for the reeltime mag and have the telstra payphone contract for town as well.

Cheers,

Adam

I am the Albany Manager for structerre consulting engineers. Moved to albany the end of september last year. Have now been with the company for 6 years!

On another note I highly recommend Andy as a mortgage broker!
He has just done a massive job getting me and my partner into our first house, was not an easy task but we got there. Andy was very professional and knows his stuff!

Elevator Adjuster/ Tuner for Schindler Lifts Aust.  I commission, tune and test  new lifts throughout Aus.  Also have A grade sparky ticket.

Great job, something a bit different, and has a good blend of hands on fitting work, electrical and pc based commissioning and trouble shooting.  We have work coming out of our ears, which is great, but lots of OT which knocks out a few Sat morning fish sessions.

I spent 19 yrs banging my head against a wall (Office equipment technician), before deciding to make the change.
I went to TAFE for 1 yr full time, and am currently working in the city doing modelling/detailing mainly hoppers, chutes and conveyors for the mining industry.
Pretty quiet at the moment, so hoping for some new jobs to come through!

Just start a new job in

Thu, 2010-02-04 11:29

Just start a new job in Leinster as a TA. Very cruisy number. 8 and 6 roster. Good crew to work with. Good facilities. Only problem is driving in and out from Kalbarri. Could drive to Perth and fly out but Perth sucks. Apparently its only a 7 hour drive verses 6 hours to Perth, then stay somewhere, catching taxi's etc. Nah think I'll just drive there.

Prior to that working in the building industry up here doing gyprock, chippie work, plumbing, landscaping, paving, whatever I could find. Before moving up here I had my own landscaping business in Perth doing large residential and commercial properties.

Mineral Processor and part time pro golfer. Golf isn't all the glitz and glamour it is on tv but love the game. Now Tiger is out the way though you never know.....hahaha. A lot of money involved in getting out there and if you don't have it or have know one to give it to you it can be tough. Thats why now it is part time while working as a processor, luckily the boss is understanding and lets me get out there if there are any tournaments on.

Hi There,

I was an Office Manager in a boutique financial planning firm in East Perth, and then decided to go back to study.

I am now studing a BA/LLB (Law/Arts degree) and am about to start my 3rd year. I am doing Archaeology as my major in the arts degree and am going to specialise in maritime archaeology.

I run my own gardening business in the nedlands/wembly/shenton park area to try and pay the bills whilst studying.

Using West Australian hardwoods to produce some of the best musical instruments (drums) on the planet.

Our client list reads like a who's who of the music industry, and I get to go to a lot of gigs and meet artists like Mick Fleetwood, Dave Grohl, etc.

Not a glamourous job from day to day though (spend most of my time covered in sawdust), but it is fun to be creating such beautiful instruments.

(I'm also a drummer, of course, and gig fairly regularly around Perth, with the occassional country trip thrown in.

I am aTeacher at a small Catholic School here in Perth. Started working in disabilities and then did my mainstream degree. This will be my 10th year at this school where i have been a Pastoral Care manager for the past 4 years. My main subjects are English and Drama. Late last year i started Xtreme Coolers as small business. I am now importing fibreglass and plastic cooler boxes in to Perth from Thailand. It is all a lot of fun.

Physiotherapist

Sat, 2010-06-05 18:20

I am a Physiotherapist working at a private practice in Ascot.

We treat private patients, workers comp, motor vehicle accident, post surgical and department of vetrans affairs.

Basically, if you have pain we can treat it.  Usually people coming in complain of low back pain or  neck pain, or various sports injuries relating to knees and ankles.

The best result I've had so far with a patient was getting him back to fishing after years of back pain while trying to fish.

Feel free to ask via pm for advice regarding pain or finding a physiotherapist.

Occupation

Sun, 2010-09-19 19:27

I am the Principal Environmental Health Officer/Building Surveyor at the Shire of Northampton (Northampton, Kalbarri, Horrocks Beach and Port Gegory) and live in Kalbarri.

Have owned my own earthmoving business, limestone block making business and owned and run a charter boat out of Broome for awhile. Other occupations include production manager of a transportable building company and production manager of a limestone block manufacturing company.

Settled into the Kalbarri lifestyle now. Have enjoyed life and intend to continue.

Try and go fishing as often as my hectic schedule permits!
