Banax Kingpin a year on
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2011-06-24 07:41Some of you will remember the banax kingpin thread from a year or so ago where they copped a flogging from a disgruntled customer. I got myself one to test out and to see if I could break it as easily as was stated. Well, a year on and after some decent rankins and 'numerous' spanglies I picked up this big cod from 75m of water that made life hard work. I tried as hard as I could to bust it off as I knew it was a shark or cod but unfortunately could not do so, I ended up having to vent him and use about 100 oz of release weight and can only hope he went on his way. :( As for the reel, not exactly sure what went on with the other guys, but mine has done its job as a cheap reel that can handle some solid fish. People may scoff at the name banax, but the reels are pretty bloody solid in my opinion.

One for C-Wirthy
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Mon, 2011-06-20 12:59Loaded up onto a big cod - bit of represent for the C-Wirthy boys. Been trying hard to destroy a banax 5000 kingpin that had a forum thread with lot of RAGE on it early last year about them, pretty hardy reels IMO.

Andy's Black - Feels like forever ago
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Wed, 2011-06-15 11:44Need a new image up on the latest image. I really can't believe it but I've only managed 1 black and 1 sail out of the new boat (dropped 3) in quite a few months of having it and having a fair bit of time off to chase them. It's definitely been the worst season in the 5 that I've been here. Ahh well, hopefully things will change soon and the weather will play ball as well.

Fish Chowder
Submitted by alfred on Mon, 2011-06-13 22:36I didn't know what else to do with the Spanish Mackerel - we already had sashmi, BBQed, assam, grilled, stir fried, curry, otak, deep fried, baked etc etc, so when Tracey suggested a fish chowder I said "Why the hell not?"
1 tbs olive oil
3-4 strips of streaky bacon (I cut off the rind)
2 onions, finely chopped
2 celery stalks, thinly sliced
3 garlic clove finely chopped (I love my garlic)
1 tbs plain flour
2 cups (500ml) milk, hot
3 potatoes, peeled, cut into 1cm cubes
1 1/2 cups (375ml) stock (I just use vege stock powder mixed with hot water if I am in a hurry)
100g canned corn kernels, drained
500g boneless white fish , cut into bite-size chunks
2 doz clams of any sort, scrubbed (optional - I didn't have any, so I just defrosted some abalone that I had vac packed from last season)
150ml thick cream
2 tbs chopped parsley, to garnish
Heat the oil in a large saucepan, add the bacon and cook over medium heat until starting to crisp.
Add onion and cook until it starts to soften, then add celery and garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes to soften.
Add the flour and cook for 1 minute.
Stir in hot milk, add potatoes and stock and cook for 10 minutes.
Stir in the corn and fish, and cook for a further 5 minutes or until fish is opaque.
If using clams, add during the last 2 minutes of the fish's cooking time (discarding any that haven't opened). Stir in cream, and season with salt and pepper.
Dish and garnish.

Today's Ruby
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2011-06-03 18:38Got out there a bit late this morning, pretty shithouse conditions as well, a lot more than forecast. Out at the Rons the inside was alive but nobody was hungry, got one small red and a baby bluebone. Headed wide to the 180's and got a few small sharks, the ledge looked promising for another day when theres less drift. Headed out to the 280's and had one drift as it was pretty late by then, got one decent rubes that fought all the way up. Had one more drift but the current had picked up and made it too difficult to hold bottom. Did a lot of miles for not much, but christened the new leccy and sussed out a few spots. Weather was meant to be good all weekend but has gone to shizen, ahh well.

Spot pingers
Submitted by SHizz on Sun, 2011-05-22 18:28Out there today with hlokk and covered a lot of water in the tinny to find some ground. What happens? Some douche convoy of spot pingers come and hop in on our very short drift. Probably about 20 meters away at best. (This photo was took as we left)
There is 361 million square kilometers of ocean, why the hell do these guys think they need to ping a boat half there sizes hard earned spot?
Jokes on them though, the fish where showing but weren't biting. Next time...
