Submitted by Iceman on Tue, 2026-01-13 13:00 Fished Alkimos beach Friday night. 20kn Sea breeze at 5pm did not make it easy with a bit of weed around. Help with Furuno install
Submitted by Gunnawundai on Thu, 2025-12-11 16:15I have bought a Furuno combo 1971, looking now at the wiring.
The installation manual says, red wire to power, black wire to earth and shield to hull of the boat.
I presume this shield is the inner silver paper like material surrounding all the other wires, excluding the black and red wire, inside the cable.
Does this sound reasonable? There was no such connection on the removed sounder. What ramifications are there if this shield is not connected?
Thanks if you can help.

Mandurah Canal Lights
Submitted by Lefty 44 on Wed, 2025-12-10 11:59Hi All,
Going to give it a try this year as the grandson needs more boat time.
If you have done it before, any tips on ramps, times or which areas to try will all be apprciated.
I haven't done it for about 8 years, but the canals around Mary st were usually the best.
Not much info online so I figured I'd ask the experts here.

Simrad NSX 15 Ultra Wide multi function unit
Submitted by squalis on Fri, 2025-11-21 16:29Simrad NSX 15UW is a 15 inch multi function unit, brand new with box. For sale an unwanted gift with purchase invoice, full Australian Simrad warranty. I could not mount the unit on my boat and hence do not have a use for it. The unit includes a CMAP reveal x Map chip for W.A which is an accesory. Selling dealer would not take it back. Selling at a reduced price to move it on asking for $4000, the unit retails at Simrad dealers for $5900 with out acessories. The unit can be inspected in Kallaroo and is fully functional. I have also included a brand new Simrad mounting bracket which does not come also a triducer transducer with side scan. Selling at half replacement cost to move it on.

Changes to overwidth towing regs
Submitted by Rob H on Tue, 2025-11-18 21:38Others may have already noticed, but there have been changes to the regs for towing of overwidth recreational boats.
I received my renewal, and hilighted at the end was a box with a long text saying there was changes and details could be found on the Main Roads website.
After a fruitless 30 minutes searching for this info both manually and using their description "Oversize Boat Order", I gave up.
Note
Change to the Class 1 RAV Oversize Boat Transport Period PermitThe Class 1 RAV Oversize Boat Transport Period Permit has been replaced by the Oversize boat Order for recreational boats (refer to our website for further information). If your boat trailer is connected to a business, you will now need to apply for a Class 1 RAV Oversize Period Permit, noting the period permit will now be issued to the towing vehicle and not to the boat trailer (refer to our website for the application form).
So I rang them, and the kind lady directed me to Page 1530 of the Gazette, which then went back to another section of the website that appeared unrelated, and the outcome was;
You no longer require a $50 3 yr permit to tow an oversize recreational boat (not a business).
You still need to abide by all the conditions but just don't require a permit as long as its not a business or reward`.
I did point out to Main Roads, that they could have stated that on the renewal with about 1/3 of the words, or directly by email to all permit holders, but apparently thats too difficult.

Genesis 565XL Cuddy Refurb
Submitted by robby4675 on Fri, 2025-11-14 10:17Purchased this old girl at the start of the year from a one owner. 2004 565XL Cuddy Cabin, 115hp Optimax.
Decided to strip it down and do a refurb.
If you see me out gimme a yell and say g’day.
Shout out to Matt Armenti for sorting the new stickers for me, took it down and got the expert to put them on.
Shout to my bro Steve (Fishwrecked member) heaps of hours doing full rewire, most jobs drilling, cutting holes, refitting, fixing etc. He absolutely crushed the U-dek install as well.
Trailer refurb down the track.
Repower is the dream (saving the pennys).

Low life's
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Thu, 2025-11-13 19:39Some low life caught a sawfish off the spoil bank up here in hedland . They cut off the rostrum and just left the body there. How could someone be so callous. to start with they are 100 % protected and there is a hefty fine for anyone found harming them in any way let alone possessing a rostrum from one. I have caught a few , taken a quick pick and set them free. Awesome fish and deserve to be looked after

nice feed of whiting
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Tue, 2025-10-21 13:36
Had a few hours off leading up to high tide and bugger all wind for a change. Went down to my usual beach spot on the spoil bank. Got a good feed of yellowfin whiting and filled an order in for a couple of queenies big enough for 2 to eat. 1 big run and bust off guessing it was a big shovel nose and released another couple of fish added a pic of end result of lemon pepper whiting

Temporary internet options
Submitted by davewillo on Fri, 2025-10-03 11:40Hi all
We moved into a new house a couple of weeks ago and those dumb f@$ks at NBN Co have stuffed things up royally. After a series of failed attempts they have now determined that fibre needs to be brought to the property through a conduit which has to be installed through the neighbouring verge. The issue with that is there is a house under construction and the trench has a site shed, materials hoist, large skip bin and a heap of materials in the way! Basically it is the only part of the site where they can lay anything down. I'm not confident they will get it through for at least a few weeks.
We don't want to wait that long for internet for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is my wife works from home a lot of the time. It's also inconvenient for thinsg like streaming, general internet use and our solar system needs wifi to be operational. Are there any temporary solutions that anyone has used to get them out of trouble?
We can't use personal hotspot either as we can get one bar of 4G on our phones most of the time, so we can barely load a webpage!
cheers

Demersal upcoming "consultation".
Submitted by Rob H on Mon, 2025-09-22 12:54In preparation for this renewed release of the "science", I'm genuinelycurious to know;
- who has participated in DPIRDs research by phone/email or whatever since the last restrictions
- What area/zone/region you were reporting on
- If you reported any negative catch/fish issues other than the obvious shark depredation
For myself in the Midwest and Abrolhos regions, I have not had any issue with catching pinkies (nor had I previous to the last restrictions).
The pinkies are more prolific, dhuies much the same but I don't fish that often.
