Swag - double

Hey All

Have just got a mitchell double swag - and the middle hoop - one side has a pin for support, and the other side doesn't.

Just curious, is this correct? I don't want the pole to wear through the fabric thats all.

Does anyone else have one?

Found cheap berkley vanish

Hi guys, first of all i hope im not breaking any rules posting this, i did search for rules but only came accross the sexual content ones, haha.

I was in the galleria Kmart doin some xmas shopping today and came across their range of berkley vanish which is on speacial. Picked up a 250yd spool of 8lb which i plan to use as leader for $16, would have preffered 6lb but at that price the 8lb will do nicely. I did look and i dont think they go down to 6lb. Tailor session at Club capricorn

Went for a session at Club Capricorn tonight. Quite a few had the same idea. Not much happened until just before dusk. Then bite every cast, sometimes did not even get the bail arm over. Kept these 5 all around 40cm. By 8.30 all was quiet. Weed was an issue but still happy.

Jason Richards 1976-2011

For those that don't know, former Team BOC V8supercar driver Jason Richards has lost his battle with cancer. 13 months ago Jason was diagnosed with Adrenocortical Carcinoma, a rare & very aggressive form of cancer. Jason was a hard, fair racer that was widely liked by his friends, fans & rivals alike. Jason made a couple of appearances behind the wheel during his battle & despite his poor health showed the talent & determination that made him a success in the V8SC championship. Suffering the ill-effects of his treatment Jason won a race in the Fujitsu V8 series in March this year, came second to Garth Tander in a V8SC race at Albert Park & won a race in the Muscle Car Masters series just 3 months ago. On Wednesday the 3 time Bathurst runner up played golf in the Australian Masters Pro-Am event alongside Braith Anasta & Tom Hawkins despite being in the final stages of his battle. Loyal to his friends, family & fans Jason was widely recognised as one of the most talented drivers in the V8's & was liked by all that had the priveledge of meeting him. Jason will be missed by his family, fans & rivals.

Todays catch

Headed out to an old faithful lump this morning for a fish and dive. After catching and releasing 5 dhuies (all size just thought the big ones would come) we nailed couple nice baldies. Geared up for dive and within 6 min at the bottom we had reached our boat limit. Didnt have to move more than 10m from anchor. Oh yeah the weather was rather crap!

Hands Free kit for phone

I am after a hands free phone kit for my car.  The last one I had was really crap and it sounded like I was calling from the bottom of a well and had a terrible echo.  Anyone had any experiences with a good one?

Fish filleting with Glen Jakovich

Saturday, 17 December, from midday-2pm at Hillarys Boat Ramp, two days after the West Coast Bioregion’s demersal fishing season re-opens.

Following a successful Department of Fisheries filleting event held at Hillarys Boat Ramp last February, AFL great and avid fisher Glen Jakovich will be returning again to fillet fishers’ catches….but only if he can keep the skeletons.

Keen recreational fisher and pro-filleter Peter Goulding, from The Fishing School, will join Jako as part of the Department’s Send Us Your Skeletons initiative.

Goulding and Jako will fillet the catches of recreational fishers returning to the boat ramp, to collect the frames for the Department’s research monitoring program.

“We collected over 100 fish frames at the filleting event earlier in the year, which was a fantastic contribution to the Send Us Your Skeletons program,” Jako said.

“I hope recreational fishers will again get involved by donating their frames to help the Department continue its important research and ensure the sustainability of our iconic species, such as dhufish and herring.”

The Department uses fish frames – skeletons with heads and guts intact - to determine the status of stocks of Western Australia’s important fish resources and ensure their sustainable management.

Fishers are encouraged to donate frames of key demersal and nearshore species, which include dhufish, pink snapper, baldchin groper, herring, tailor, garfish and whiting.

Department of Fisheries West Coast demersal finfish research scientist Dr David Fairclough said he hoped fishers returning to Hillarys Boat Ramp would take any key species caught to the Department’s marquee.

“In exchange for donating fish frames, Jako and Peter will fillet their fish,” Dr Fairclough said.

The Send Us Your Skeletons initiative is ongoing and fishers who donate the required frames before 1 July, 2012 are eligible to win a range of prizes, including an incredible Monte Bello Islands charter trip.

Air con help

Eldery lady across the road had a vent fall down due to recent storms i believe,,it was held in place with double sided tape so i got on a ladder and put some self tapping screws in,on the way out in room another vent looked a bit dodgy you could see the tape was starting to let go in one corner so i got on the ladder and put some screws in,,i noticed this one had a big foil tube over it and only realiesed then these were air con tubes, there was nothing over the first vent.

I am guessing the other tube has blown or moved in the roof when the vent collassped ,when i find it i was just wondering what holds them in place above the vents to stop them moving about,i told her not to use the air con and i am back this evening to sort it out,,any ideas ? cheers,,

Got some Urban 4wding Water Crossings and Recovery in tonight!

Went to go watch some lightening in Tuart Hill. Pretty spectacular. Was awesome watching the whole city skyline get blacked out. One minute there are the big buildings.... next all dark except for the silhouettes when the lighting flashed! Then went for a drive in Osborne Park. Hmmmmm then all the rain bucketed down. REALLY bucketed down. Got to do some awesome Urban 4wding water crossing's! all theway back to Morley

Even got to do an Urban Recovery. Some poor fella had hit a massive puddle in his very low WRX and the car had shut down..... in the middle of the puddle. By the time i pulled up and went to ask if he needed a hand he had his feet up on the dash and there was about 15cm deep water in his footwells. So out came the tow strap, hooked him up and pulled him out and onto a piece of not flooded roadside. Very thankfull, even offered me money for my help. Just told him to pay it forward.

Just a bit further down the road also saw a Hyundai Excel also conked out on the side, but they had managed to at least get through the puddle before the car shut down.

God i love my Hilux. Havent had this much fun Urban 4wding since the massive hail storm of 2010. Anyone else get amongst it?

Also got 45mm in our Rain Gauge in Morley.

lightning

Anyone else enjoying this awsome lightning storm? Best ive seen for a while. Hopefully Marks out there taking some more great photos to show those who are missing it!

water skiing at walpole inlets?

This amazes me. I wouldn't have thought water skiing would be allowed in a Marine Park.

New water ski area for Nornalup Inlet - Walpole

Increased numbers of vessels involved in water skiing at Walpole has prompted the Department of Transport (DoT) to open a dedicated ski area within the Nornalup Inlet.

DoT Marine Safety Operations Director Ray Buchholz said the inlet was increasingly busy with water craft and with the busy summer holiday season approaching the formal gazettal of the new water ski area was timely.

Mr Buchholz said DoT recognised the need for a formal aquatic use review of the inlet and had committed resources to undertake the task in 2012.

"The review will enable a comprehensive assessment of all aquatic use of the waterway and will involve local users in long-term decision making to ensure the safety of all users,” Mr Buchholz said.

“Key stakeholders including the Shire of Manjimup, Fisheries, the Department for Environment and Conservation (DEC) and local interest and user groups will be consulted as part of the review over the coming months.

"A similar review has recently been undertaken at Albany and had strong community support."

Mr Buchholz said the implementation of new ski area on the inlet, ahead of the formal aquatic review, was needed to provide enthusiasts with a legal and safe environment for their activity.

"New signage buoys have been installed to clearly mark the boundary of the ski area and DoT's Regional Transport Officers and the Department for Environment and Conservation (DEC) would promote the safe use of the area," Mr Buchholz said.

It’s envisaged the aquatic use review will be completed early next year.

People wanting more information about the new Nornalup Ski Area can contact DoT's Great Southern Regional Office at Albany on 9892 7312

Surfer escapes close encounter with shark

NSW surfer lucky to escape close encounter with shark

Surfer

Stephen King's surfboard was bitten by a shark at Angourie. Picture: Al Morrison.

IF the chunk out of his board is any indication, surfer Stephen King had a lucky escape after a close encounter with a shark on the north coast yesterday.

Mr King, 51, said he was thrown through the air by the impact of the attack as the shark took a large bite out of his board while surfing at Angourie, near Yamba. "I was lucky just to get a couple of grazes on my leg, "he said.

Mr King said he was about to stand up to catch a wave when he felt the shark brush against his leg before it took a mouthful of polyurethane and disappeared.

He suffered minor injuries but got back to the beach and called for help. He was taken to Maclean Hospital and given a tetanus injection.

Lifeguards closed the beach after the near miss, which happened about 6am. Local surfer Al Morrison said Mr King regularly surfed at the world-renowned point.

"We get the occasional shark sighting, but we've never had an attack before," he said.

"He felt it brush against his leg and that's when he saw it.

"He was just really lucky. The whole town is talking about it, but people are still out surfing."

Quobba Trip Report Nov 2011

Mark (Iceman), Will & Jay

3.00am wake up with 4.00am leave time after a final check and we are on our way to Quobba only this time Will & I are taking Jay,his future son-in-law who has only recently got engaged to his daughter. Jay has done little fishing and a complete novice to spinning and ballooning for mackies. We had spent the last 12 months teaching him the in's & Out's of fishing this beautiful but rugged coast line.

We arrive around 3.00pm and soon located Alan Barker (The Guru) who advised most fish were being caught North of the station due to the colour of the water. Best chance was Garths and Camp Rock, bugger that meant the climb up and down. Alan advise the track to Camp Rock had been repaired and we would be able to get all the way down in the car.

Head up to the Chalets and meet some fellow fisherman (sorry forgot there names) who had been there a coupe of days and had been fishing Camp Rock and done OK.

Day1. Get up early and head to Garth's. Decided to leave Camp Rock for our Neighbours. Alan advise to get there just on light as there was a good chnace of catching some Spanglies.

Once we had completed the climb down we quickly set up with some Squid baits and Mullet (the mullet we caught in Ocean Reef Marina a few week before). Will hooks up first, fish looks like small Cobia but turns out to be a Remoray (spelling??). Not much else happened until the sun started come over the cliffs.

I decided to start spinning. bang first cast get hit by good size Sharkie, but fails to stay hooked. Jay (the novice) is next and manages to land the first Spaniad of the trip. Not size but a good start.

With the sun rising we can now get our lures out into the sunlight. My next hit almost pulled the rod out of my hand. Big mackie estimated to be around 15kg. 10 seconds later there is a massive explosion of white water as 2  big sharks decide it is breakfast time. What we did not see in the shade was the sharks swimming around Garths. Did not even get the lure back. They took the lot.

As they say when the Sharks are around so are the fish.

Will then spotted a Cobia close in and placed a rapala xrap right under it nose. Cobia did not look twice and engulfed it. Luckily it was close in so we good gaff it before the sharks took interest. Will's first ever Cobia.

The rest of the week was pretty much the same with the Sharks getting 2 out of 3 fish.

We fished early until 10-11am when the seabreeze would come in, but made the climb easier,

We ended bringing abou 25kg of filletts so we were very happy and had a great time and already planning the next trip.

A few more pics but would like ID on the first as unable to locate in any books.

caught one of these on a lead headed jig!!!!

Mr Groper got my fish. Give it back. Fishing The Post in the PM

Unshucked oysters

Hey guys I'm a big oyster lover but am fed up with buying the washed ones in the trays. I used to have a contact who would order them from South Aus in a big sack but she moved north so that was the end of that. Anyone know if you can buy them unshucked locally? I'm willing to buy into a bulk buy if anyone know where to get them from.

Cheers Andy
