Tiling the Laundry Floor - Questions
Submitted by Craggles on Wed, 2011-11-02 13:51Gday all,
I know there are one or two handy guys on here (maggot looking at you) so a quick question for them.
I'm just about to begin the prep work on our laundry floor to complete our first reno attempt in our first home.
At the moment the floor comprises quite simply ugly vinyl over concrete, the vinyl hasnt been glued or anything and from inspection there doesnt seem to be any kind of treatment to the surface of the slab.
I'm just wondering, do I need to apply some kind of waterproofing or other preparation to the slab itself? Considering it's just a laundry and is unlikely to be wet (unless the washing machine dies) is it a huge issue?
Can I tile directly onto the concrete?
If I need to waterproof how do I go about that?
The house is all brick on a concrete slab, thanks in advance
And for good measure, here's a couple of pics of the reno so far :)

Swainston's FISHES OF AUSTRALIA
Submitted by till on Tue, 2011-11-01 17:36Bit of a late birthday pressie, this arrived hot off the press!
Swainston's FISHES OF AUSTRALIA
We all know how to catch fish, but this is a little bit different. Hand-painted images of lots of fish (1500!), all your usual favourites and lots more. I think I'll have to put a few more on the to-do list ;)
Roger Swainton has spent a bit of time here in WA, you can read a bit more about the bloke here.
Oh and the The Bitter Truth Traveler's set, for when you just can't travel without it.

Melbourne cup tips
Submitted by ricey on Tue, 2011-11-01 07:40So I have got it sorted.
Americain to surge to the lead only to be overrun by Dunaden for the win.
My Roughie tip (maybe better value on the place) is Unusual Suspect number 7.
Lets see how you all go. Put it down in writing now!

Camper hire - any recommendations?
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Mon, 2011-10-31 23:32I'm looking to hire a camper for three weeks for a trip to Coral Bay next year, something similar to the one below. Has anyone got any companies they can recommend for quality of service and price? It would be good to find someone that includes all the accessories at a reasonable rate too...
Not fussed if it's onroad or offroad.

Getting into mining?
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Mon, 2011-10-31 15:42I've read a fair few old forums from hookt, paul g and a few of the other gang about trying to get into the mining game and wanted to try and find out how other 'inexperienced in mining' people found their way in. I was going to go into the maritime industry and have all my stcw and coxswains etc etc but the unpredictability of it all (lot of mates on contracts that get put on, put off etc etc). So I'm trying to find another avenue for steady higher end cash flow to prep up for the family life one of these days (considering I already live in the north west, I may as well try and make the most of the higher incomes available) I know a lot of it is 'who you know' etc, but Exmouth is only really starting to get exposed to that side of things and there aren't that many miners in town (well that I know of)
I've just finished my cert 4 in OHS and no one is very interested in anyone without 2 years mining experience (also that I'm not Perth based doesn't help) Also got plenty of other quals, experience etc but they are in a different field so finding myself a bit stuck...
I've just gone and got my HR L plates and going to do some lessons in a few weeks and also looking to do a 5 day course with RMS for Skid-steer loader, Front-end loader and Excavator (was contemplating dump truck but unsure) just to try and get in the game with some experience so I can then move into OHS/HSE down the track... Just wondering if there are any other avenues which might be a faster track to take, any advice appreciated..
Cheers,
Adam

Carnarvon Jetty Fire
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sun, 2011-10-30 15:51Took a drive down the beach to see how much damage this recent fire caused to the jetty. With the river mouth now flowing on the south side one cannot get a close as I would have liked.
Looks like one whole section between piers has been burnt and shouldn't take them too long to repair if they have got the timber close handy other wise it will anyones guess if it has to come from down south.
The area where it happened is about 40-50 metres towards shore from the landing where the last big fire occurred.
Stuck in a couple of shots of whats left of the old whaling / prawning station jetty. Now that they've removed the shore section prohibiting access, it's deteriorating rapidly and after a few good blows may be gone altogether.

Alternative to Lead Sinkers
Submitted by CCC on Sun, 2011-10-30 15:44Hi Guys
Does anyone use something different to replace lead sinkers. I have used Galv chain links. Is not the cost that bothers me, just thinking about the amount of lead we all lose each fishing trip. The greenie in me has started to think about the impact it must be having not only on the enviroment but lead levels in the fish we eat. So wrecks must have a fair amount.....
Any replacements for jig heads on soft plastics??
Whats ya thoughts

Fishwrecked Censoring....
Submitted by Piscator on Sat, 2011-10-29 11:15
I got an email the other day from a friend of mine saying that he had posted a link to my website on fishwrecked. I am not one for shameless self promotion so I felt a little uneasy about it but was pretty thankful to Karl (Crushed) for putting the word out. Soon after the post was removed????
We are all here on this forum because we love fishing so I was pretty surprised at this action? Is there a simple explanation for this censorship or am I not allowed to share my love of fishing within this forum?
Bemused......

It Official. and in writing
Submitted by Aaron Santos on Fri, 2011-10-28 09:47The AFL are actually making collingwood leave Victoria 5 times. I know they said all vic teams would, but I wasnt going to believe it until I saw it for myself. Not only that but the fagpies also play the top 5 sides from this year twice. No easy way through to september in season 2012 playing gold coast and the other lesser sides this season.
Im thinking Eddie really must have P!@&ed someone off or like a few rumors are getting around they didnt have the cash to buy themself an easy road this year.
Mick knew when to leave, he must have seen it coming.
Good luck Buckley.

Anyone Want to Buy a Missile Base/Silo?

Adirondack Mountains, NY
20 acres (or more). This is the most highly developed Atlas F site available today, and it is part of an exclusive airport subdivision on a (FAA approved) 2050' runway. (It is fully accessable by road too). It has beautiful manicured grounds in a forest setting within the Adirondack State Park. Breathtaking mountain views surround this lovely, secure home. It has a 2000 sq. ft., home on the surface with an open floor plan, a large garage and a wrap around porch which hides the underground structure entryway. The underground structure has been converted to a 2300 sq. ft. 2-story (3 bedroom, 2 bath) luxury home with fiber optic lighting and a contemporary finished interior. The silo tube has all floors, spiral stairs and steel super-structure. It includes a generator and new well. Low taxes. Privacy, security and unlimited possibilities. No other like it anywhere. Price $4.6 million. ($4,600,000.)
Anyone got a spare 4.6 million dollars?
