Check your gear!
Submitted by Swompa on Thu, 2017-12-21 13:36As a few of us are lucky enough to be getting away over the next few weeks, just take 5 minutes before you head off to pop your bonnet and check your car. Check the tyres (including the spare). Check your trailer's lights and tyres too.
Cheers for the assistance/laughs/information over the past year and all the best for the upcoming fun times. All the best for 2018 all! Hopefully the year of the Metro Mackie for me.

Finally got it wet
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Wed, 2017-12-20 21:44Finally got to take the swifty out on the water. Only in the estury but its salty.
Put the crab nets in but mullet dont stay in the nets for long. Got 1 keeper out of the nets and a couple with the scoop.
Ended with only 2 mullet the car bonnet rays didnt chew up and dragging the net with them . In the end we got a feed and the boat hit the water and ran well. Had a bit of a picnic while out there as well. Headed in just on dark not knowing the waters were just playing it safe.

Navionics on a mobile or tablet
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2017-12-10 16:18Hey all. just wondering if anyone has had experience with navionics on a mobile or tablet. looking at downloading one but not to sure if it would be viable. reason for it is so we can save our spots manually inputing each time we find new ground. and plan out our day without having to get up on the boat along with being able to see all the contours and depths in the areas. i only have a navman 510 (i think thats the model) thats nearly 20yo. still works but a bit out of date.also have a hummingbird 917c combo unit to work with thats about 15yo.
any info would be appreciated , thanks Russ and Sandy

cost of a day out fishing
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Fri, 2017-12-08 19:28after seeing that other thread about cost of boating. how much money do you put into the economy on an average day out all inclusive.
i know we used to allow around $150 for the fay out which covered fuel for car and boat, bait , ice , food and drinks . sometimes it would go to around the $180 mark . but in saying that how much would it cost to go out for dinner and a movie or taking the family out for the day. i think boating would be the cheaper option

Festive Season Greetings
Submitted by Wes F on Fri, 2017-12-08 11:43Well Christmas and the years end is fast approaching so on that note I would like to extend a warm Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
I have enjoyed reading the many fishing reports from Chris's rock fishing down south to Thailand's BKKGuy weird and wonderful monsters from the freshwater.
To everyone boating and yakking stay safe out on the water.
Look forward to reading and hopefully adding a few reports next year.
May there be a few more chapters to the chronicles of Petermac.
Finally Cheers Adam for running the website.
See Ya's all on the flip side.

Is there anything better than a sat phone
Submitted by eziliving on Thu, 2017-12-07 03:57Just wondering what you guys think would be the form of communication as it looks looks like I’ve picked up a job out in the great Victorian desert. Going to be out there for approximately a month so I am thinking of taking some form of communication to contact the family and use for work.

Rottnest online bookings
Submitted by Rob H on Wed, 2017-12-06 20:47 For the last 5 years I have tried to do the online booking for moorings and entry to Rottnest without luck.
Every fucking time it comes up with "some of the vessel data you have entered is invalid".
I have rung them several times and as helpful as they often are, only gotten "not sure, you must be entering something wrong".
Even if I dont put any detail in it comes up the same.
I copy it from my rego papers which only has the length and rego number
Anyone got any tips because its bloody painful having to walk in and do it on a busy day over there

Steibl heatpump installing a timer to maximise solar system
Submitted by timboon on Tue, 2017-12-05 20:31Crew,
Had the big solar system installed now for a week or so so its time to maximise the investment and reduce the payback time....
I have a 300 litre Steibl heatpump that seems to rum sporadically day and night...
Ideally i want to have it run through the daytime period when the panels are producing power and remain off through the night...
Has anyone on here done the same?
What sort of timer set up have you had installed?

Ironman triathlon become Duathlon, Shark in Busso
Submitted by Karak on Mon, 2017-12-04 00:02www.perthnow.com.au/news/wa/busselton-ironman-swim-canned-after-shark-spotted-ng-b88679141z
THE Busselton Ironman swim leg has been abandoned with a shark spotted as some competitors were in the water.
Those in the water at the time were forced to climb out onto the Busselton Jetty while others closer to shore were told to swim back in.
--------------------
Was at the Jetty on Saturday for squid fishing, they closed the Jetty at 6pm hence no overnight fishing, for preparation on Sunday.

Ali fuel tank - any FW fabricators
Submitted by bradz on Tue, 2017-11-28 11:06Morning all
Are there any FW forum members who can fabricate an underfloor aluminium tank? I was going to use a commercial operator but thought I'd first put it out for someone on here who would like to take up the job.
It will be roughly 1800mm long, 540mm wide, 200mm high.
PM if you can do this or if you know someone who can.
Cheers
