Suspension Seat in offshore 7m+ boats
Submitted by hilko on Mon, 2022-06-13 13:26So i'm interested in feedback from users of suspension seats.
I'm told that they're great. I appreciate that they will take some 200mm of 'seat' storage away.
And am also told that they are problematic in that when the boat slows (like when you hit a larger swell/wave) that seats tend to slide forward and so you need hold onto the dash rail, and "it kills your arms" over the course of a day.
I've heard off Shock Wave and seen Vent Right on here in another post.
I'm interested to hear from anyone who has been using them in serious fishing/water conditions over a number of years.
What did you invest in, approx cost (if inclined to share) and was it worth the money.
My experience with my seats - is that (due to their ability to adjust/rotate) they are very wobbly and get worse all the time.
Thanks in advance. :)

Anyone with a Calcutta 700 - clutch retraction spring
Submitted by selthy on Sat, 2022-06-11 11:58After not being able to get the free spool to click back into gear, i opened up the Calcutta 700 that I've inherited to find the Clutch Retraction Spring (part 1752) laying loose in the reel. From the schematic it appears that one end fits around part 1753 as it feeds through part 1757. However, this means it needs to connect on a 45 degree angle to part 1749, which seems to not work. I've scoured the net, google images, youtube, alantani etc and can't find any images of this version (possibly the original version) of the 700 that shows the clutch retraction spring connected. Note that the 400, 700b etc. are a different design and don't appear to have this spring.
Hoping someone here may have this reel and can upload a photo showing this spring in place. Alternatively, happy for any guidance from anyone good at reading schematics.

Braided line breaking strength
Submitted by shane78 on Fri, 2022-06-10 16:26Hey guys thought I'd put this out there and see if anyone else has had the same experience, basically long story short bought sum cheap braid went up north lost a big fish, wont make the same mistake, but it got me thinking and have been testing all my line since. And nothing I have including some shimano braid and some more expensive line that I bought thinking the more expensive the better is actually as strong as it states. For instance the expensive stuff I bought is 30lb and using my hand held fishing scales put pressure on it and it breaks at around 20 to 21lb, basically all the different lines i have are breaking under said strength, some as much as over half its strength, has anyone come across this. Feel like to get the breaking strength i want i need to buy a stronger strength.

Cut off trolling
Submitted by wifecallsmegrumpy on Sun, 2022-06-05 23:00To the pelican in the red sided plate ally boat heading into ocean reef this afternoon at 4pm, I hope the 300mtrs of braid and new richter lure you stripped off was well wound around your prop.
All the gestures and jumping up and down as you blindly changed to drive behind us wasn't a special tic toc dance. Anyone could clearly see we had three lines out the back !
You are a fool, please take more care.

Submitted by stranger401 on Tue, 2022-05-31 19:18I have a 4M Stacer with a 40hp Mercury. I take the boat out when I can,but not having any joy finding fish. I wonder if some of you would be willing to give me some locations to try? Love being out on the water, but it would be nice to bring a couple of fish home for dinner. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

bent street boat ramp
Submitted by piscetor on Fri, 2022-05-27 13:01Hey guys an gals. I am wondering how much more money the council is going to waste on Bent street boat ramp. I was told by an expert at the ramp that they can't move it as warnbro sound is now a marine park? I can't find anything that shows that. So why not spend some of our rate money on a new one EAST of the weed bank where the water is deeper . Then make a car park blody big enough fro the vehicles that use it . They could run a groyne out 50 meters with an arm heading to the east put a small bout launch area striaght of the beach and have three pier/jetties to launch bigger craft. They could also lay some limestone rock ten meter out fro the outer edges of the groune to act as a nursery as a fish breeding ground. All the money is being spent on Point peron extending the car park ( cut lunch and water bottle if your by the road ) and constantley dredge bent street, money not well spent in my book. A good ramp further east will do for the next 20 years and offset money spent dredging cost over that period. I also heard they were going to up grade port kennedey. Dumb place to put a boat ramp any way if you have tried using it ina sweel or sea breeze you know what im talking about, its crap.
What are your thoughts on the subject?

Fishing out wide after the storm - any advice/experience appreciated
Submitted by beeroclock on Tue, 2022-05-24 10:00Looking safe to head out of two rocks tomorrow from around 10 am onwards as swell and wind drops off quick around then. Ive never gone out wide directly after a big storm before cos i know snapper tend to come in close after storms. But what about chasing dhueys and baldies out deep say from 40m -80/90m where we usually go off two rocks? do you think its worth it? or is ocean too stirred up and dirty out there to bother? any advice greatly appreciated
