FISHERIES VOTE 2 options
Submitted by little johnny on Fri, 2022-08-19 18:27This isn’t a vote . Should be third option ( no) My advise do not vote for what they put up ( means you agree to it ) letters /complaints yes . This isn’t a vote at all . Look I am not the smartest person in world . There is no 3rd option . There way or no way attitude sucks d..ks . It’s wrong . Up to individuals picking 1 off there options . Wouldn’t be good

Dry bilges all round
Submitted by Silver Fox on Thu, 2022-08-18 15:18After living in Carnarvon where it never rains and moving to Innisfail where it always rains my boat let me in a little issue she has.
A constantly wet bilge.
I had no idea how the water was getting in and it was starting to hurt my head.
The bilge pumps do a great job of getting the water out yet there's always that little ( a lot...:) of water that the pumps won't suck up. Some research online and I decided to go down the arid bilge road and make a couple of set ups for the big duck, being a cat there's two of everything. I jumped online and ordered the pumps and timers and a trip to Cairns to the worlds best retic store saw all of the piping requirements met. The local electrical store provided the boxes and cover plates and I was in business.
Whilst I was waiting for the gear to show up a mate of mine came over from Busso to hang out for a couple of weeks and we ended up down at the boat trying to work out how the water was getting in. Bilges were wet vacced dry and water was sprayed in all manners and styles with the water still getting and no obvious path shown. New deck hatch seals were installed and still the water got in. The bilges have a 70mm stringer running down the guts of em and I put a pump on one side to get rid of the water. One morning it clicked.... the water was only getting into the side that the pump was on. Switch sides and bust out the hose, hey presto the water is now on the other side. Turns out the water was running down the gunnels over the back of the transom and straight down the bilge outlet hole into the bilge. Fuck me....... The bilge outlets are high on the transom not giving enough height to have a loop in the pipe to stop this from happening, quick solution was to sikaflex a bilge blower clamshell over the outlet and no more water problems.
Having collected all the gear to make a dry bilge system I went ahead and installed it anyhow. Pretty simple setup. A small diaphragm pump on a 12v timer with a pickup point on each side of the stringer, the pickup points are light switch faceplates with a barbed plastic thread running through em with a sponge on the bottom. Water gets sucked up by the sponge and sent over the side.

Demersal Closures.....time to show our strength
Submitted by Belly Fish on Thu, 2022-08-18 09:35Hi all,
This is an email from Recfishwest foreshadowing what might be announced today.
If they ignore the public consultation, this will be devastating for tackle shops, boat yards, coastal towns and all of us.
Time to act.....strongly I would suggest

Targetting Mulloway on lure in the surf
Submitted by 420casts on Mon, 2022-08-15 07:49Looking for some advice and ideas about this and hoping to speak with anyone who has succeeded with either soft plastics or diving lures. I have a friend who fluked one, and have spoken to a couple of old blokes who have done it too. I know the Saffas are right into it but i dont hear many people trying this in Perth. Cheers !

Not sure if I've just made a mistake.
Submitted by still trying on Sat, 2022-08-13 09:31Hi guys just booked my 2 stroke yammy in for a service at a local boat yard it's a 2002 model and straight away was told that they don't normally work on motors that old so I asked if his staff were capable of working on those motors he said yes then really tried to put me off with time frame and cost which with the way things are at the moment seemed normal to me. Motor has only 270 hrs on it just stalls every now and then at idle not regularly. I'm a little worried that his staff are only capable of dropping and replacing oil not the rest of the process.

PSA: Head Torch "Travel mode"
Submitted by nebbian1 on Sat, 2022-08-06 22:53This is a public service annoucement.
If you get to the jetty with your fishing rod, squid jigs, head torch, and bucket, and your head torch gives 2 flashes and refuses to turn on, it is NOT out of batteries.
It is in travel mode.
As I learnt 2 hours later, when trying to charge an already charged head torch back at my desk.
If you find yourself with a torch that flashes twice and turns off... HOLD THE BUTTON FOR TEN SECONDS. it will flash again, you let go the button, and all is good again with the world.
Lesson learnt.
I hope this helps a future fishing expedition.
First reef bag .

Just curious as I've always thought stainless wasn't the best option

Caravan Hire
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2022-08-02 11:34Can anyone recommend who may hire a caravan for a farm stay for my bro's 40th in September for 2 adults and 3 kids? I've checked out Camplify but the booking and service fees are at least $150 on top of the hire so looking to see if I can hire one privately with insurance etc still in check.
Cheers JF

Garmin EchoMap 75cv
Submitted by Alan James on Tue, 2022-08-02 11:14A mate of mine has one of these units and I'm trying to help him out. He wants to view the chartplotter map, the traditional sounder screen and the bottom lock screen at the same time. Getting the bottom lock screen to show with the other two seems to be the issue. Any / all advice welcome.
Contacting Garmin seems almost impossible.
