Cray pot floats?
Submitted by Hairyone on Sun, 2014-11-30 10:32Gday,
Does anyone know the legalities of craypot floats other than you have to have them?
My problem is I can find plenty of places to put my pots in off the reef in front of my house but being nearly holiday time the chance of them being there the next day isn't real good with all the campers.
What would happen if put my pots in at low tide without a rope or float. (just an identification tag done to the correct specs)
Or a float on a real short rope that technically doesn't float?
The main reason for floats is for identification right, and your own benefit of course.
Whats your thoughts........I just reckon if Im the only one who knows were they are and they are licenced and to spec it should be ok????
Or do you just put a small piece of broken rope on it and explain it must have been cut?????
Cheers
Hairy

Baking coral trout whole
Submitted by Francis on Sun, 2014-11-30 08:35G'day guys,
I've done some research on google and it says if baking a fish whole in the oven when wrapped in foil, a general rule of thumb is 15 mins per half kilo. That sounds like a lot?
Ive bought a nice 3kg coral trout and the thought of leaving it in the oven for over an hour worries me.
is anyone able to offer some advice on this? Id hate to over cook such a nice fish.

Rotto
Submitted by lachieH on Sat, 2014-11-29 16:11my friend and his family have invited me to rotto in January, and they usually do a bit of fishing while they're there. I'm just wondering what do you catch there? Because fishing is not on their priority list, I will probably be restricted to only about 30 mins to 1 hour of fishing at a time. Because they have 5 boys and things can get hectic.
i am thinking of just bringing my 8ft 2-6kg fibreglass rod which is a noodle, and just a cheap shimano FX2500 with 4lb braid. I don't know if there are tailor there but I wouldn't be able to go fishing at sunset because we will be eating dinner then. I think only jetty fish.
so what do you recommend fishing for there, what do you usually catch there?

South coast swords?? After some info to have a crack at them
Submitted by Chris fish on Fri, 2014-11-28 22:20Hey guys. I'm chasing some inform on swords and I know a few guys on here have longlined before. Rigging and setups I sort of have an idea what I'm more after is what sort of depths where they common? Are they found on the contours so more on the walls or sea mounts/ drop offs or doesn't that matter and just stick to the temp breaks?? I want to give this a good crack just trying to pile together a heap of info and go from there
Thanks in advance

restoring fish hooks
Submitted by randall df223 on Fri, 2014-11-28 21:02Does anyone restore their own fish hooks that are showing signs of rust? I have replaced these on one of my favorite lures, but if I could get the rust off them, perhaps they could be recycled rather than thrown out. Is there any particular method for restoring and is it worth the trouble?

Planning a Exmouth land based trip
Submitted by Mad fisherboy on Fri, 2014-11-28 18:40Hi guys, me and my dad are planning on taking the family to exmouth. The problem is we dont know much about exmouh and places to stop on the way to exmouth so i am looking for some help.
We have 7 days to go to exmouth and back as my dad is a fifo so we can't stay too long, we are planning on driving there but want to make one stop on the way as it is too long to go there in one day. Any suggestions/reccomendations will be greatly appreciated.
Also my dad and I are going to be doing a lot of fishing although we are stuck land based, the main reason we are going is to catch bigger fish. We are not too experienced when it comes to bigger fish though and we are seeking advice. Any tips on locations, rigs, baits and species caught would be very helpful.
We will mostly be targeting Spangled Emperor and queenfish as our gear would most likely not be able to handle GT's.
Any help is much appreciated, we just hope we won't be too disappointed
Thanks

squid close to fremantle harbour?
Submitted by randall df223 on Thu, 2014-11-27 18:55I am planning on launching in the river on sunday morning and heading out though the harbour.
Want to get some squid first up and the navionics app tells me there is a squid spot about 0.3 nm off the rock wall of FSC. Has anyone tried there and how was it? I may stop here and check it out and if no good head to Parmelia bank or garden island.
Then the plan is to troll FFB for tuna or macks and keep an eye out for any sambo jigging opportunities.
Looks like the seabreeze will come in before lunch so it may be back into the river for some trolling for tailor later in the day.
