Building a fish tank

Hi Guys,

Looking at building my own fish tank apox size 8ft x 3ft x 3ft 

Using 12mm glass  has anyone built their own fish tank before and is it as easy as just silicone 4 side together and a bottom

Amazing Wivenhoe Dam photo

How's this shot of Wivenhoe Dam in Qld now it's choccas (197% capacity) from the recent deluge.

The view of the dam wall shows how much water it's holding back.  Amazing.

Pretty dirty water too, be a while before the bass and perch start biting again I reckon.


Saltiga LD 30 vs Saltist LD30 Twinspeeds

After getting my Saltist and Monster Mesh combo stolen, thought I would go the saltiga LD30 Twinspeed instead (and replaced the trusted MM). Not much off an overhead man, more like an eggbeater all the time, was this a good move?

Have to admit the Saltiga weighs heaps less but IMO doesnt look as good as the Saltist. All my beaters are Shimano, but for some reason like the daiwa in OH. Am I wrong here also.

Basically will be used as a backup for BB and trolling, aswell as ballooning out the back of the boat for mackies etc. All my rods/reels sort off have to fill more than one role IMO.

Hey guys, just wanted to say that my partner and i were invited to the social night at the pgfc after posting a comment regaurding marlin being caught out at the rottnest trench and i must say we were made to feel more than welcome.Iwas a little concerned at first about joining the club as i thought it was for people with xos boats chasing xos fish,not the case at all.there where several tophies given out from previous events ,some being state records and one female angler with a world record.Most of these fish can be easily caught in a 5mtr boat with the right weather.There was even 500 dollars worth of ricter lures given away in a raffle (awsum)To sum it up if there is anyone out there that enjoys fishing for pelagics then i suggest you get down to one of ther social nights and check it out,even if you dont own a boat quite often there are guys looking for crew.

Exmouth next week

Hi all,

 

Heading up to Exmouth on the 12th for a week. Have a 7.5m boat and will be launching from the Marina. Hoping

to head to the Murions for some bottom bashing and troll on the west side if weather permits. If anyone has spent

sometime their recently any info on whats biting and recent weather would be great help.

was fishing down the asi yesterday and i kept hearing these huge spashes, and then outa no were the water just started bubbeling, meter long tuna started jumping out the water smashing bait fish about 50 meters of the groin, had 1 hook up on a dead scaly under a balloon and spooled me calcutta 700b. but was some good fun wile i had the big fella, unexpected!


Cockburn Sound

Hi!

Who can let me know of any good spots in Cockburn Sound once the Snapper season opens again? I only moved to WA just over a year ago and went out a couple of times but after covering plenty of ground couldn't find any structure, reef, scallop beds etc at all. Fished a couple of spots but as far as I could tell the bottom was flat and sand or mud? Plenty of fish on the sounder in mid water but I assume these were squid?

Fisheries roadside checks net 29 people

Date: Friday, 28 January 2011
Investigations are continuing into several alleged fisheries offences, following roadside checks carried out as part of a joint operation with Mandurah Police this week.

Supervising Fisheries and Marine Officer Darren Schofield said a total of 29 people were apprehended, during the seven-hour operation on Tuesday afternoon and through the evening (25 January 2011).

“Given that the weather was not particularly conducive to fishing that day, I was surprised with the number of people we came across who we have warned, fined or are investigating further over a range of fisheries matters,” Mr Schofield said.

“We issued 12 warnings, 14 infringement notices (which each attract a $200 fine) and nine people are likely to face court over alleged offences.

“Some individuals received more than one infringement notice for breaching fishing rules.”

Mr Schofield said Fisheries and Marine Officers located 89 undersize crabs in one vehicle and each of the occupants could expect to be charged.

“Not only do each of them face a potential fine of up to $5,000, if they are convicted they would also each have to pay a mandatory penalty of $40 per crab and that penalty alone works out to be $3,560 per person,” he said.

“In a separate apprehension during the operation, we located 44 undersize crabs in another vehicle and the four occupants are being investigated with a view to court action.”

Mr Schofield said local Fisheries and Marine Officers were keen to join Police in roadside operations, when the opportunities arose, but they also had the potential to conduct vehicle checks at other times as well.

“I was disappointed with the number of people who were found with undersize crabs, because these are the fish for the future and taking them represents a major concern for the sustainability of the fishery,” he said.

“Mandurah crabs are a community resource and those people who breach the rules and take too many, or take them when they are too small, are putting everybody’s enjoyment of the fishery at risk.”

Melbourne Sports/Game Fishing Charters?

Exmouth - April - Questions and catch up if anyone keen

Ill be up in Exmouth from 25 April to 1 May inclusive (missing the comp unfortunately!)

 

Any other members going to be up there over those dates?

 

Be keen to catch up for some beers or head out to some ground in a convoy if anyone is keen. Boat is only a 17.5footer so be good to know another boat or two out there.

 

I havent fished there before, can anyone give some general info as to the ground up there? Are there plenty of lumps around? Or is a hell of a lot of sounder work required?

 

Also an idea of how many mile out would normally go to target makkies/tuna etc.

BREAM EXPO DAY

HUGE SUCCESS

 

A special day was set aside for the “Bream Expo Day” held by All Boat Business on Saturday the 29/1. From 8:30 at the start of the day to closing time at 4pm huge crowds were drawn to the tackle department to learn all they could about bream fishing. The huge turnout was great to see with everybody getting in on the action, guest speakers were inundated with questions while people crowded around their tables to check out some of the great products on display. There was a real interaction among guest anglers/speakers with the crowds which was fantastic to see, not only could everybody interact but could really get one on one advice from the “pro anglers”. Not only did customers receive generous discounts but also walked away with plenty of freebies in the way of lures, hats, stickers and more! All Boat Business’s team were under the pump all day catering to customer needs. The amount of new faces and not so new faces was great to see with plenty of “how do I catch bream on lures” questions directed to the guest anglers. All Boat Business is extremely proud to label “Bream Expo Day” as a huge success, with the amount of positive feedback from the crowds we are sure to announce we will be holding more “events” like this in the foreseeable future. Over the period of the day saw more than 150 people from all places come in to learn something about the sport they love. In total we had 13 sponsors for the day and over $3000 worth of prizes which were up for grabs. The prize winners were called and congratulated on winning the great prizes the sponsors put up for grabs!

Fishers banned and fined for pulling “other fishers’ pots”

 

The Department of Fisheries has welcomed a magistrate’s decision to ban two men from fishing for 12 months and the big fines imposed on them, for illegally pulling other fishers’ lobster pots.

In Fremantle Court this week (Tuesday 18 January 2011), Magistrate Robert Lawrence ordered the men to pay fines, penalties and court costs of $6128.40 each, after they pleaded guilty to seven charges against both of them.

Magistrate Lawrence also warned the men that, if they breached the order preventing them from being involved in any fishing activity for a year, they would be committing a further offence and would be liable to a potential fine of $10,000 and six months imprisonment.

Jose Manual ROCHA of Fremantle and Joao Garces GONCALVES of White Gum Valley were fishing near Rottnest on the 29th and 30th of March, when Fisheries and Marine Officers observed the men pulling a total of 19 recreational rock lobster pots.

Acting North Metropolitan Compliance Manager Ryan Parker said not only had the pair pulled more than the daily limit of four pots, our investigations quickly determined that some of the pots did not belong to them and they had not been given permission by the lawful owners to retrieve them.

“We get a lot of calls from rock lobster fishers, who suspect their pots have been interfered with, so this is a warning to wrong-doers that we can and will pursue those who fish illegally in this way,” Mr Parker said.

“When they were apprehended at the Leeuwin Boat Ramp, the men had also knowingly concealed excess catch and undersize fish. The magistrate said all the offences were very serious and the pair had shown a blatant disregard for the law. The big fines and the fishing ban he has imposed deliver a significant outcome that will be a major deterrent.”

had a play on sat , turned on white line on the 585

even turned on only 1% , it knocks out the whole bottom reading to just leave the tails and whatevers growing above. (you can turn right up to 50%)

seems most sounders have this function but i,ve not read about anyone using it.

is it more of a relic from the monochrome days or does anyone use it to reliably pick up anything???

Western Australian Recreational Boat Fishing Survey

Split Fuel hose

I have a small split in my fuel hose, it is near where it connects to the motor..

when I start the motor without the fuel connected it starts no problem, the with the feul and water connected it will start once then after about 20sec it stops.

Then will not start again for about another 3 hours without the fuel connected, could it be sucking air in where the split is?

prawning lights

i want to get some better lights set up for prawning this year,

so does anyone have some good ways to rig up some prawning lights that are removable, led underwater prefered.

 

i have seen makos on the back of his boat, but i dont want to permatly mount. and they were exspensive.

 

last year i was using a genny and 2 100watt floodlights, apparantly it is better to have submerged lights for prawning

also the lights got in the way sometimes.

 

any ideas and pics would be great.

headed over to our favourite muddie spot and scored a great feed.Thanx to bianca for the awsome road conditions our adventure was action packed with river crossings,fresh water fish crossing the flood way. and profish landing a nice jack to cap the day off.


Seasport

Hey all

went up to Jurien for day ten days and went out on seasport

We started off with some bottom bouncing

Straight away I was hooked, just a small dhuie

next drop I was on and it was a big dhuie

Unfortunatley dropped him on the way up

seconds later my mate hooked up and landed a 12kg Dhuie

Throught the moring we caught two Baldies, a 6kg sambo and a blackarse

Things got quiet so we went to the fads and others got a 4kg mahi mahi and a 8kg one

overall was a great day and we will be heading bck up soon
