Wilson Inlet - Denmark
Submitted by tcarroll on Wed, 2020-05-13 08:06Hi All,
Heading down to Denmark at the end of the month and was wondering if it is worth towing the boat down to fish the Wilson Inlet? I've never fished the inlet before and I've read a few times on here about fish from the inlet having mushy flesh and tasting muddy. Is this most of the time or just on occasions?
If people don't think it is worth it, I will save the fuel and just stick to fishing the coast :)
Cheers,

water....fuel...faaaarrkkk
Submitted by scotto on Mon, 2020-05-11 13:35yo boat technicians,
I went for a spin a few weeks ago, and coming in at 22knots after approx an hour of running, the 2010 140hp suzuki started slowing down, losing power. it would hold approx 8 knots OK, but would sputter and pulse rev if I tried increasing revs. a quick inspection of the water seperator/in-line filter was the bulb was full, approx 120ml of brown shitty sludge/water, which was removed from the seperator. furthermore, when I got home, I inspected the motors fuel filter, and found a bit more water, and some brown flakey shit, which was empited out, and rinsed with good fuel. I ran the motor at home, and increased revs, its all good..
saturday it did the same thing. I went for a river cruise, and when I got to open water and powered her up, after a few minutes it started losing power, but would hold low revs/speed. parked up for a few hours, and checked the seperator, which was clean as. I returned home with no major issues though, holding 20 knots for approx 10 minutes across Melville waters.
I've ordered a new filter, which should get here this week. boat was serviced in August (I bought it in November). I'm just wondering what else I should be checking?

Perth Fad Coordinates
Submitted by Simo_ on Mon, 2020-05-11 07:19Hey guys, I was thinking about checking out the fads before they bring them in. I am having trouble finding the coordinates, the link below seems to only be for the new ones. Any idea where to find coordinates for the others?

White Hills
Submitted by hairyhaggis on Sun, 2020-05-10 17:03Hi guys, was down White Hills beach this morning for a flick, and I gotta say, that beach is looking a lot worse for wear. Got down about 7am, not to many people on the beach, but there were cars parked on the entrance going in (just before it turns into the white road), and an hour or so later, half of Perth came streaming from the beach to exit. So many people camping in the dunes, and to make matters worse, half of them were speeding along the narrow passage, drifting sideways, saw one fuckhead in a Patrol doing donuts. Another car of late teens on green P in a beat up Forester was screaming along ripping up the track.
About mid-morning, the place where they were all camping, a RAC Ambulance Helicopter had to land on the beach, but no idea what happened. Took off an hour later.
The entrance to the beach is now so narrow there was a queue of about 20 cars going head to head as no one could move. Saw a couple of cars try and go down closer to the water to get round, and get bogged, slowing things down even more.
I reckon it wont be long till the place is closed off, as everyone is using that entrance to get down to Preston (or as close as they can if it is blocked).
On a brighter note, got a fair few Herring, Skippy, Wrasse (bastards), Banded Sweep, and a black Western Scallyfish.

Where to catch livies for the FAD's
Submitted by davewillo on Fri, 2020-05-08 10:43Heading to the FAD's tomorrow from Hillarys. We normally stay at Rotto and catch herring there but we can't do that at the moment obviously. As the FAD's are west of Hillarys we don't want to detour to Rotto on the way. Should we just jig bait that we spot on the sounder or are there others suggestions for livies?
Thanks for any advice!

Shimano
Submitted by C.P on Fri, 2020-05-08 08:29I gave my Stradic an oil and grease and must not have screwed the handle cap back on as tightly as i should have
After returning from a fishing session on Sunday, I noticed that the cap and an o ring were missing. So looked at the parts list that comes in the box (lucky i keep these things),
Monday morning I called shimano, gave the guy the part numbers and my CC numbers and ordered them
I got the parts Wednesday - and I have re-fitted them to the reel
Bloody Impressive I say - Thank You Shimano

Where is this? Big rolling break near Perth
Submitted by ranmar850 on Wed, 2020-05-06 12:18Just watched the Rob Kirby Naiad video on The Captain Youtube channel. Ok, much of it is around Rotto, but there is some beautiful drone footage of the boats running around in a big breaking swell. Appears to be a shallow patch with deeper water inside. Not intimately familiar with the area. Would this be west end somewhere, or 5 fathom bank north of GI in a big swell? The Stragglers? Just curious. Link to video below, first shot is just 0.17 in, then 0.47, then keeps recurring.

abrolhos tackle reels
Submitted by mr_shenn on Wed, 2020-05-06 12:06Hey all, have been looking at the abrolhos tackle reels, not badly priced with the 19% discount at the moment. Just wondering if anyone on here has purchased one and what they reckon of it or have heard much about them. Would be using it for a bit of everything jigging, floating baits and throwing stickbaits around.
cheers

Fads this Saturday! 9/05/2020
Submitted by jeddddy on Tue, 2020-05-05 22:23Hard to believe I am writing this when it sounds like my house is being hit by a TC at the moment (Tuesday)
But putting a calling out to the FAD regulars for a bit of advice for some first timers...
First things first, looking at the current predicted weather for rottnest both on ever reliable willyweather and windy. Am I right in thinking that the weather for saturday will be suitable?
Bear in mind we are small boat users, at this stage planning to take 2 for safety(reassurance) in numbers, a 6m glass and a 5.2m pressed ally (maybe)...
In regards to Launching, we are planning on driving up from south mandurah, looking to launch at point peron, Navionics suggests that there its only 3 or so km further. than if we were to launch at the likes of woodmans point.
Is this a smart thing to do? or should we be driving further northt?
Most importantly in regards to fish. Has anyone had much success this time of the year? What can we expect to catch and how should we expect to do it?
I usually take an array of stuff to play with, first thoughts is to mindlessly cast stickbaits around, hoping to spot some working birds...
Ive had some advice to stop in close to rotto (Not too close
) and get some live herring to dangle around too...
Plenty of wrecks on the map, assuming most of those in that depth would hold a pretty healthy stock of samsom fish?
Thanks in advance guys!

Submitted by saltyseamen on Tue, 2020-05-05 20:16Hi guys,
Long shot but does anyone on the forum own a Southwind or Souther Star 550WR?
I am chasing some info on max HP on the transom relating to weight etc. Apparently it is rated to 150HP 2 stroke but only a 115HP 4 stroke.
Any info PM me.

Storm damage by high wind
Submitted by meglodon on Tue, 2020-05-05 19:47Just heard an almighty bang from out the side of my place, went outside to find the entire fence on the northern side of the house is now on the ground. Thanks a lot Mr storm 8 ft sheets of hardiflex ( I think that's what it is called replaced asbestos sheets)sheared of at ground level 6 ft high.
Boat on trailer with brakes on pushed 2 metres down the drive way, wind at falcon registered 92 kph time to batten down the hatches me thinks.

Moral question or whatever
Submitted by sea-kem on Sat, 2020-05-02 18:12Ok here it is.
You go out and nail two Duies within 10 minutes of getting to your spot.
What do you do, call it a day or keep fishing for your bag?
My opinion, keep fishing for your bag of other demersals or whatever else, my reason being I'm out to enjoy a day of fishing.
Fire away!
