With the weather being pretty poor today I decided to give my regular Sunday morning fish a miss and catch up on a few chores.

One of them was to give my wife's dogs a hair cut.

As you can see from above, I am not too good at the old dog clipping and poor Gizmo end up looking like a moth eaten rat.

Definately not like he is supposed to look like - as pictured below below.

Poor dogs. I bet they wish I went fishing.

probably heading to steep point next month and wondering if its worth taking a dingy or should we take a bigger boat. Would prefer to take a dingy as its heaps easier and cheaper on fuel. Also has anyone been in September just wondering what the weather and fishing was like. Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

Would the mouth be open now?

We've had a bit of rain lately, would that wash most of the bream towards the ocean?

If there's heaps of weed, would squidding be better than fishing? I don't even know if people go for squid there.

I'm a newbie, first post. I'm heading to the Cocos Islands at the end of the month for a cpl of weeks and was hoping there were a few ppl who had fished there before and would like to give some pointers. A mate over there fishes with a cpl of the locals who mainly target wahoo, but i was wondering what other options there were. I know they catch sweetlip pretty easily in the lagoon, GTs if you're lucky off the jetty and sharks at night but was after info on bottom bouncing and and what else might crop up trolling. Also without starting a debate any tips on reel/rod/line and popper choice for the GTs would be much appreciated.

There is a previous thread on this and alot of mumbo jumbo was said. The thing that caught my attention out of the whole thing was Mr Moore saying"If anyone has a better idea to put it foward".

Well this is my/our chance to have a say either as an individual or a group on what we would like to see happen.

Like they say in the movies, "it only takes 1 good idea".

I have a few and have aired them on other threads on this topic.

In the end it is going to affect everyone who has anything to do with fish.

That is alot of people to agree on ideas that will help our fishery.

I would like to see a big referendum on this with a vote afterwods(much like the daylight savings thing) so that everyone involved gets a chance to be heard.

It would be the fair thing in my book...

just wondering about that. i have navionics gold , and just head outside to sit on boat and put a couple of marks on interesting looking points straight onto plotter.

is navionics platinum well worth the money , and even if not, how the best way is to plan your next trips on pc

have read a couple of things about navionics nav planner and fugawi. is there any other software out there,  like a very in depth google earth ,but for sea bed ??

it must cover all the way out to trench in good detail and show gps positions obviously.

 I thought it was a good idea to join fishwrecked. I'm originally from the east coast (Brisbane). I've been in Perth for 12 months now & concluded that this is the best site to join to become involved, learn & share some of my fishing experiences & techniques.

Work brought me over here & I've been fishing north & south since I landed here. I caught my pb jobfish 2 months ago on a popper up in Exmouth. Fishing the north west was the highlight of my stay so far.

I must say, it is a whole new world over here fishing wise. Particularly without a boat. My partner (Samantha) & I had to sell our 6m platey before we came over here. So we'll be boatless for another 12 months until we get settled.

I am big into fishing & boating. I've been fishing since I was 5yrs old & I love casting big & small poppers, plastics & dropping jigs for a variety of fish. I was heavily involved in sportfishing back east & I look forward to catching up with some fellow members & getting involved. I may be off to Christmas Island next month so I'll be sure to post some pics if all goes ahead.

Took a mate from work out today to get her a billfish first. Ten minutes into the day any the long line screamed off with our fist black marlin.

Di got it in quite quick as she was on 24kg but as I grabbed the leader it went PING. Gutted and pissed off we put the spread out again and

had a beer. 3 hours later 3 sails  came onto the spread and  a double hook up ,one on 10kg  and the other on 24 kg. I grabbed the 24 to get it

quick and with rod in one hand and camera in other, took a quick pic then release. With some quick boat driving as Di had lost a hell of alot of line we landed it and she got to release hers. Great day as it always good to be fishing

BOUNDARIES:

To make this tournament as versatile as possible the WA Calamari
Classic will be made up of 3 sections; Boat, Kayak and Shore based.

Boat- Inside Co.ckburn Sound and north to the tip of North Mole and west to the southern most point of Rottnest Island.
Boats are not permitted to venture under and beyond the Garden Is Causeway.

Yaks- Same Boundaries apply as for boats. Yaks may also be launched from outside the Co.ckburn Power Boat complex after signing in.

Shore Based- Shore Based anglers can only fish as
individuals and may fish from any legal rock platform, jetty or beach
between North Mole and the Garden Is Causeway. Shore based anglers are
not permitted to fish anywhere on Garden Island.

RULES:

* This is a lure only tournament. Anglers may only use artificial
squid jigs to capture squid, however squid may be switch baited from
dead or live baits.
* Cuttle fish and Octopus are excluded from weigh-in. This is a Squid Only tournament.
* All squid must be caught on the competition day and weighed in a fresh and consumable condition to qualify for prizes.

WEIGH IN LIMIT:

Boat- Boats may fish a team of as many anglers as
legally permitted for the size of the boat. The 10 heaviest squid only
may be weighed in. Prizes awarded for 10 heaviest squid from boat will
be awarded per team, not per individual angler on board.

Yaks- The 5 heaviest squid only may be weighed in by a single angler or double team from Yaks.

Shore Based- The 5 heaviest squid only may be weighed in by a single angler from shore.

PRIZES:

There will be prizes awarded for the following categories.

Boat- Heaviest bag of 10 squid from boat.
R/U heaviest bag of 10 squid from boat.
Heaviest single squid from boat.

Yaks- Heaviest bag of 5 squid from a yak.

Related Story: Lake closed after fish bites woman It had been dubbed the "Loch Alexander monster" - a giant fish that had bitten an unsuspecting woman on the foot and forced the closure of a popular swimming spot in Darwin.

But it has been renamed "Clary the cod" after council rangers this morning pulled out the slippery toe-biter from Lake Alexander.

"I'm pretty certain this is the one," Roger Matthews said after luring the 800 millimetre long estuary cod with baby octopus bait.

"It's a ripper. You can certainly stick your foot in this thing's mouth."

Following the biting incident, Darwin City Council closed the lake for two days to allow rangers to catch the rogue fish.

"It had her toes and the front of her foot in its mouth, so it was a big fish," the council's chief executive, Brendan Dowd, said at the time.

Today's catch is estimated to weigh about four kilograms.

"I wouldn't put my hand in it's mouth, put it that way," Mr Matthews said.

He said the cod put up a 15 minute fight, made more difficult after the rangers' outboard motor stopped working.

"All good in the end," Mr Matthews said.

"Doesn't matter if we row, swim or helicopter our way to it - we would have done anything [to catch it]."

The fish was caught about 15 metres away from where the woman was bitten.

Rangers will continue to monitor the lake for the rest of the day, just in case there are more large cod out there.

Clary the Cod will not be going on the barbeque, Mr Matthews said.

Instead, it will be relocated to the ocean.

having recently had my birthday i was stocked up with a new light spinning outfit (dropshot 2-4kg, shimano sienna 1000).  having no luck yet to date with the set up i wasnt holding my breath but as the weather has held up the past couple of arvos i decided to head out today to the river near sunset.

the first on was the tailor, totally unexpected, provided a decent fight for its size (i was particuarly happy as i had never caught a tailor before).  then half a dozen casts later a small bream.

what i am finally understanding is that this set up is very sensitive (compared with my previous ancient crappy set up), especially with the braid.  i had never used braid before and its amazing how you can feel whats happening down the end of the line.

i had headed out the previous week flicking small hbs around matilda bay with no luck...hopefully i can manage to snag my self something decent on a lure this spring. i have a (very) small amount of experience with fishing the swan successfully. 

so can any body give me any advice regarding flicking lures around the shallows?  i have a R2S FingerLing Shad and Halco Laser45.

Hey guys, as i am going to Jurien bay in september and have never been before. So I was wondering what the fishing is like up there. I will be land based and am interested in what I could expect to catch.

I am looking at getting down south coast area  coinciding with marron season  as I have too many weeks of holidays owing and if I don’t take them soon they will force me to take them at there discretion. Anyway after not getting a chance to go marroning these last couple of years (young family) it is time to get back amongst it again. So what I am trying to find out is the dates for the 2010 season. Last year it started on the 16th of Jan but it is usually tied in with moon phases so should be different in 2010. I hope to tow the boat down south and also do some fishing as well. I would like to book my holidays soon but couldn’t find anything on the gov fishing sites. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  

Heading to Broome with the lovely lady. Shore based and staying on the Cable beach side. Was wondering what fish I can expect to catch if I go for a wander up and down Cable beach flicking all sorts of lures?

Hanging out to drop a line but strong winds and rain are putting an end to that. Want to get out and try out a few new stuff but every day down here is bad. BRING ON SOME GOOD WEATHER!!!!

Finally after waiting weeks to get out for a fish the chance presented itself yesterday and was i glad to wet the boat! had been in karratha for a wedding over the weekend and the storys of billfish going nuts had me going mental! i had to wet a line! drove back sunday arvo arriving in gero about 1030pm and a quick check of the weather before bed it looked good! woke up at gentlemans hours abit lagged from the trip but got the boat ready grabbed some gear and the missus and hit the water about midday ish..... straight down to a close in dhuie spot my old man has resulted in one undersize bigeye gettin the release weight wet even tho it came up in great nick outta 15m i thought there was no harm in gettin the lil fella back down asap... then the missus went dead quiet - pale - blank face.... hrrm not good i thinks.... usually shes pretty good and didnt wanna admit it but she was sick... in with the sea anchor and raced in close to a lump id done well at previously..

anchored up solid first shot and chucked some burley and waited... nothing.... waited more.... still nothing... hrrm crikey... the missus was gettin worse even tho conditions where ideal and suddenly after jiggin away with a Gulp 6" minnow for 10mins i got whacked and a short but solid fight later a nice skippy showed itself... it was a start anyway - missus was still gettin nothing and next drop another nice skip jumped on the plakkie... noice.... another 3 skips later all around 45cms and the missus finally nailed one on a mulie... then i got a solid hookup right on the bottom... trout! only just on 50cms so decided to chuckim back with high hopes of the bite improving... but instead it went quiet again and after 10mins of nothing the missus got snagged snapped off and spat it... haha oh well to be expected when crook i spose.. was just about to up anchor and head in when i had one last drop of the plakkie - 3 jigs and i got smasssssssshed big time.... using my light baitcaster and 6kg fireline i had both thumbs locked up tryin to extract wat felt like a bloody good fish! and after a quick fight in just 10m of water i had the fattest trout ive seen for yonks in the boat and i was extactic! 73cms and so fat! (it had 2 whole squid in its guts) this gave the missus a knew lease of life and first drop ping thnx for coming someone had some new jewelry down there! angry again re-rig and she watched me again next drop get blown on the plakkie! it was heatin up! another stonker trout came up that came in at 700mm and again in mint condition... that was our bag limit of 2 trout in the boat so was very rapt at having 2 700+ trout in the eskie and both on plakkies!

anyways this continued for awhile with big skippy one small sambo and another 6 trout coming to the boat before we headed in... the missus used mulies n fresh mullet the whole day for 1 trout 2 skippy and a bloody eel whilst i used the gulps to score 8 trout all between 500 and 730mm half a dozen skips and the sambo! they work alright

all just 10mins from gero and the beers on the way home tasted magic! now just gotta get out and try the new HDS7 i just picked up today for the tub! look out dhuies!

Apparantly a whale is still cruising up and down Scarborugh and Trigg Beaches, about 100 m to 150 m off the coast.

I am  heading up to Exmouth in September and i was wondering what kind of lurer i should be buying, any good spots to fish off the shore, should i go book a charter boat, if so, which one?

I will be stopping at Monkey Mia aswell, any tips on the fishing there?
