I have had so much advise I have about 50, and the spread is 4. Surface runner 1-3m R2S Triho, Deeper F18, Halco Crazy deep  and a shot gum popper (havent decided the best one yet).

Lets build a favourite bible of these lures.

Does anyone know if you can fit a 40mm jigging master knob to a shimano twinpower 5000fc?

 I currently have the 30mm version on the reel which comes whith spacers ect to fit.But the 40mm version is too deep to fit the shaft on the 5000fc.

On the JM site it says ither shafts are avail to fit onto other reels ect but i can't find any info anywhere.

Any help would be appreciated

As before i posted a link on here for suggestions for a rod with my penn reel , i have now got my setup up al going with 300 metres of braid  on my Penn reel and a ugly stick gold 10-15kg class from oceanside tackle :) now i just have to get ouside n use it . im a happy chappy now haha, cheers for all the input and suggestions.

The next battle in the whale wars will begin in early December when two or possibly three vessels from the Sea Shepherd organisation will set sail from WA bound for Antarctic waters.

Last year, Sea Shepherd had only one boat, the Steve Irwin, in the Antarctic and the bigger fleet signals a major escalation in the fight to stop Japanese ship from whaling in southern waters.

The second ship will be the Oceanrace, a space-age New Zealand 24m tri-hull powerboat that is not only able to cut through waves and runs on biodiesel but it is fast enough to intercept the whale catchers as they work.

"What we've been able to do with the Steve Irwin is block the operations of the (factory ship) Nisshin Maru but we cannot catch those harpoon boats," Sea Shepherd head Paul Watson said. "They do 22 knots but the Earthrace does 50 knots. We'll be able to run circles around them. The Earthrace will be an interceptor vessel with the object being to prevent them from killing whales.

"We've been able to cut the whalers' quotas every year, and they haven't made a profit for three years. Our objective is to sink them economically and I think we can do that if we keep the pressure on."

Capt. Watson said the group would know soon whether they would have a third ship on the campaign. A donor had come forward with the money but a suitable ship still had to be found.

On board the Steve Irwin when it leaves in December will be a camera crew from Animal Planet. It will be the third time that the channel has recorded the actions of Sea Shepherd. The first series, made in summer last year, will be shown on Animal Planet in Australia from tomorrow.

It is called Whale Wars and records what Capt. Watson says is the moment when he was shot by someone in the Japanese fleet. The bullet was largely spent but made a hole in his jacket.

This summer, there was no shooting but there were several potentially dangerous incidents and the Steve Irwin collided with a harpoon boat.

The Steve Irwin has been in Queensland having a $500,000 refit and this year will go into battle equipped with a water cannon.

WA will be at the heart of the action next summer because the Japanese whaling fleet is expected to be in the part of the Southern Ocean whale sanctuary closest to here.

Capt. Watson hopes to sail with the Steve Irwin but he is now officially a terrorist.

"About three weeks ago, I was coming back from Canada into the US and Homeland Security held me for two hours," he said. "They were all very friendly. In fact, they've all seen Whale Wars, and they're all very supportive. I said, 'What's this all about?' They said, 'Well, Japan's put in an official accusation that you're a terrorist. It doesn't mean a hell of a lot, we just have to go through the damn paperwork'."

While the US actions are a nuisance, Watson is concerned that the Australian Government will try to stop him from entering the country because of the Japanese accusation.

"We enjoy overwhelming public support in Australia, but the Australian Government is not very friendly. The former one was OK. I mean, (former environment minister) Ian Campbell is on our advisory board, but (Environment Minister) Peter Garrett pretty much stabbed us in the back.

"I think once you get elected, they take you into a back room and explain reality to you because he actually stood up and said a Rudd government would stop whaling.

"Two years later he may as well have been talking to himself."

I imagine this is going to make metro fishing absolutely terrible. Looks like the summer chopper tailor action is going to be bloody dismal :( I was looking forward to that.

A plume of murky sediment could blight Perth's most popular beaches for up to six months from November when a million cubic metres of dredged material from Fremantle harbour is dumped into the sea.

A mountain of sludge and limestone will be generated during Fremantle Ports' $250 million dredging operation to deepen and expand the port.

Some of the less polluted material from the dredged areas will be dumped on the western margin of Gage Roads, about 8km from the coast. A 3m deep blanket will cover 150ha of ocean floor, smothering up to 50ha of seagrass.

It could create a sediment plume which the port concedes might affect swimmers and divers as far north as Scarborough.

In an official report on the impact of the port deepening, compiled in June, the Environmental Protection Authority conceded the project would affect beachgoers.

"Aesthetic and recreational values relating to the extent of visible plume along the coast during summer will be compromised by this project," the report states. "The EPA accepts that this will be for duration of approximately 20-26 weeks and that the coastal waters will resume normal water quality once the activities associated with this proposal cease."

Independent environmental researcher James Courtney, who has studied the project for two years, warned swimmers to avoid the area.

Sediment from the dredging deemed too toxic to be dumped in open waters because it is laced with tributyltin (TBT), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorines, arsenic, lead and mercury, will be used on 37ha of seabed at Rous Head.

Environmental campaigners warned yesterday that the poisons which have been trapped in the silt over the past few decades would be released and risked contaminating neighbouring Port Beach.

Lee Bell, from the National Toxics Network, claimed a report seen by port bosses showed toxic material was already leaching from Rous Head. Dumping extra material at the site would compound the problem.

"The report noted that the levels for arsenic near Rous Head were already approaching the maximum acceptable levels," he said.

Environmental scientist Peter Dingle said TBTs and PCBs, which were toxic to marine life even in minute particles, would be released into the environment.

Fremantle Ports spokeswoman Ainslie de Vos said the project had passed the necessary environmental approvals. No sediment would be dumped in the open sea unless contamination levels fell within acceptable guidelines.

North Fremantle resident and kite-surfer Michael Ma said he was worried by the pollution.

Premier Colin Barnett was confident the project would be managed properly, his spokesman said.

Met a couple guys the other morning who told me about the site so thought I'd join up and see what its all about!

About me: U probably guessed my name's Paul, and yeah I'm kinda Tall - 6'6".

Fishing habits:  Grew up fishing in Port Hedland and surrounding paradise :-) Weekends I was spoiled catchin queenies, mud crabs, massive flathead, threadfin salmon and huge cod.  Moved back to perth for high school and uni.  Most of my high school fishing was usual shore based stuff around northern suburbs.  Once we got our licences we made yearly pilgrimmages to Exmouth for 10 days at a time. Had some great land based trips there with a couple good days charter fishing thrown in over the years.  Highlights up there would have been fishing under the navel pier when u used to be able to get near it, burlying up jacks inside the marina, and killer spangled sessions off the oysters.  Haven't been back there for a couple years tho, so now the fishing is land based in Perth again.

Fishing bucket list: Never caught a big pinkie (or a pinky for that matter).  Gotta catch one of those Alaskan Halibut - one of the few fish you can catch that is as big as you and weighs as much as you.

Other stuff: Happily married, run my own business, love to travel, have lived in France, England and USA, love camping, old hot rods and custom 50's cars.

Hitting up the dawsville cut tommorrow, i havent been for a while now anyone been doing well there? last time i was there the water was brown didnt get one bite, how often does the water turn like that and i usually get a bucket full of herring but im hell bent on catching some KG`s or Flathead there any tips would be awsome.

im heading off to Gnaraloo station in a few weeks for a week and havnt been able to find much in the way of info about the fishing there. Does anyone know if id be able to do much up there with a dinghy with a 15hp motor? alternatively, i could take the 6.6m sportscab but would this be launchable? also, is there any good fishing off the beaches at 3 mile beach? wot sort of fish would i be able to target landbased, both on light gear and heavy? im looking forward to doing a bit of soft plastic fishing there. sorry about all the questions, but any info would be much appreciated

The cray fishermen and some kimberly trap operators are going to meet with him soon.They hired a few scientists of their own and are going to take their findings and film evidence as well as some damning facts about some of the science used to modify their activity and that of the rec sector .I wont post all the info but it will possibly come out very soon.If they bring out some of the evidence they are seeking legal advice on at the moment i think a few heads may roll if not there will be a few smacks on the ass happening around the place.

Im planning on going out soon and im just wondering where a good spot to fish around perth is.

Pretty chuffed with my new 20cm Swibo filleting knife. Now all I need is something to use it on.

Just have to let everyone know that the Chefs choice I got from Ryan is a treat for sure. Filleting is a breaze, all the bait knifes are razor blades and the cooking knives are "cooking".

Bloody good investment if you ask me and better than sitting there with a stone etc for ages.

Hi everyone

 I am relative new to the site and just wanted some advice from those who have been up to Broome fishing.  I am heading up to Broome for 2 weeks as part of a mates wedding. So thought it would be a great opportunity to take the boat up.  I read a review on Fishwreck indicated the boat ramp facilities in Broome are not easy to launch off.  Supposedly some of the locals have close calls themselves. What I gather is the tides are quite large, hence needing to time your lauch's very carefully. 

I live in Albany and am use to beach launching from places like Two People Bay and Hartmans.  I have been to Exmouth and have launched off Tantabiddi without much issue.  How would people rate the Broome ramps compared to these ramps I have launched off.

 Secondly any advice on fishing spots.

Well with many of us getting organised for the mission to Exmouth next year we are also considering are artillery to take along. 1 thing that I wouldn't mind people opinions and expertise on is ways in which skirts need to be appropriately dressed (rigged). Really there are heaps of diagrams and info on the net but thought it may be a good forum topic for many of you fellas up north chasing billies and sails this year to share some of your possible hidden secrets and suggestions on colours that may have worked for you.

Ads I have discussed this with you but would be good to have your advise for all to see since your in the mix of it everyday up there. Either that or I will just send my collection up for you to rig. lol bugger that you will sabotage!!! ;-)
