Ab day cancelled
Submitted by ChrisG on Wed, 2019-01-09 17:20Saturday the 12th has been closed to Ab fishing due to predicted dangerous sea conditions??
im confused I had it at 1–1.5m swell with no wind whatsoever until after lunch....don’t care about the boot rubber closure, but was planning for wide bottom bash early. Am I losing my shit or have they closed for bugger all reason and it’s going to be fine...?

First fish in a while in the Crusher
Submitted by Ryan C on Wed, 2019-01-09 16:54hi guys , had my boat for sale for the last 6 weeks with thoughts of upgrading, got tired of waiting so picked it up from All Boats yesterday and headed out this morning off Mindarie, got the bag by 9 then chased tuna for a couple of hours - very flighty but managed 3 blues and a striped before heading in , good conditions considering the forecast.

Combo recommendations
Submitted by Ben01 on Wed, 2019-01-09 15:08Gday guys,
Im soon to be travelling around Australia and hoping to update my kit with a couple of combos specifically for northern land based species - anything from tailor to Barra etc.
Ive already got a heap of el cheapo combos that I want to leave behind but I’m already sorted for a big beach combo for baits and I’ve got a small 7’ combo that I use with bait for whiting, herring etc ..
But I would like maybe one or two (my missus loves fishing too) combos that I can use with lures at the beach, rocks and creeks.
Any advice guys? I’m hoping to keep it around the $300mark for each combo - not sure if one should be slightly heavier than the other or two somewhere in the middle would be best.
I do like the look of the Shimano raider rods but not sure if they have one that’ll be a good fit for the purpose.
Thanks for any help guys!

anyway managed to sneak out this morning with great hope of the wind dropping
certainly didn’t do that was 17-22 offshore
thankfully first two drops resulted in 2 nice dhuis
they will be saved for quick weekend dashes down from now on
it’s been fun

In search of Barra
Submitted by Alan James on Tue, 2019-01-08 18:04My Kiwi nephew has renewed his interest in coming to Oz primarily on a barramundi fishing holiday. He has in mind a blokey style trip without wives, maybe for a week or two for probably around four guys including myself. He and two others would fly in from NZ and I would fly in from WA. I have very little knowledge of when and what is available in the NT or Qld and was looking for feedback from those who may either have done similar trips or know of what is available. Due to our inexperience in barra fishing I was thinking more along the lines of a guided charter, at least to start with? My nephew is a diehard fisho who has fished many locations around the world so we would be looking for a more full on experience than the average tourist. All advice and recommendations welcome.

Cost of boat hire?
Submitted by black gen on Mon, 2019-01-07 18:40Just having a discussion about pros and cons of having a boat verse hiring a big one between a few blokes once or twice a year when heading north
we all currently own boats and have all our marks but as life gets busier the boat doesn’t get used anywhere near as much as yesteryear
curiosity has me thinking that it could perhaps be better value between a few boys for the use we get out of the boats currently
does anyone know the cost to hire one for a week or two from murchison or exmouth boat hire
cheers

Xmas19 catches
Submitted by sea-kem on Mon, 2019-01-07 16:11A few pics of the Xmas break.
Took the new project boat out for a spin on the river and a yummo feed of crabs, it'd been a while since I'd had a feast of these.

We were late with the pots this year due to beach erosion and ramp repairs but made up for it, very bloody happy.

First run out found them on the bite big time, the Baldies were a nice round up for a good bag.

Most the fish were caught on Mulies with a light single leader ganged paternoster.

Trailer bearing seal
Submitted by Ericl on Mon, 2019-01-07 14:39Hi
Replacing my bearings on my trailer and wanted to ask if anyone has recommendations on the grease seal. I have had these pop out so have done some checking on the net and I find that some people recommend putting a little sikaflex on the seal or stub axle and then putting the seal in a little way (2mm) then putting on the the hub with inner bearing and seal ring letting them push the seal back into its actual position then finish by putting in the outer bearing, washer and nut and adjusting. Sika will then go off and the seal should adhere more succesfully to the stub axle
Thoughts on this please
Cheers
Eric

Reel force charters
Submitted by still trying on Sun, 2019-01-06 16:52Hi guys went out on reel force charters today. First time on this charter and would highly recommend anyone looking for a charter to definitely give them a call decky did a great job skipper jumps in and helps out when fish are coming over the side at all ends of the boat. The skipper had us on fish from the very first drop the bloke next to me had a fat 70 cm snapper on deck in a minute or 2 from us being told to drop. I lost a big dhue completely my fault just went to hard but it was on a second steaming run and i thought i had him beat but no way was quite pleased with how I handled it, I think I only swore once. Still had a good day did catch plenty of just under fish but still came home with fish.

Jurien Bay Tips
Submitted by SaltyMacca82 on Sat, 2019-01-05 19:27Anyone got any tips for fishing Jurien Bay? From what I've read and heard about looks like taylor dawn and dusk, and looks like the jetty is a good starting spot. Heading there on the 18th Jan, and any advice would be great. Just beach fishing, no boat.
You would be a bloody idiot
Submitted by meglodon on Sat, 2019-01-05 17:59After the coverage on a number of pages in todays "west" about the penalties and fisheries activities with regards to the taking of under size crabs you would have to be a bloody idiot to engage in such activities.
Still I'll bet penny to a pound we will see a few people get done for it before the Christmas break period has run it's course, these people are doing nothing short of stealing my grand kids future with regards to crabbing and I hope fisheries catch as many as they can and do them with the biggest fines they can, they are nothing short of selfish stealing bastards as far as I'm concerned.
'
I think the year 2019 is filled with danger for us fishos, why' well in my view when a government starts playing with the amount of catch that may be taken based on nothing other than a social experiment then it is indeed entering very dangerous waters {excuse the pun} IMO.
The idea of making crayfish cheaper for the citizen of our great country is a noble and great idea, just like I can't see why we should be paying so much for LPG when we have truck loads of the stuff on our door step, and IMO it belongs to WA even though it was/is developed by foreign investors. With crays I think there are better way of making a certain amount of the resource if I may use that word available to WA citizens without increasing the total catch based on nothing more than wanting to be the father Christmas government.
And, I would like to see the price cheaper so that people can buy a couple of crays for chrissy lunch, I just don't think this is the best way of doing it and I won't even comment on the other proposal that the paper has raised about the increase in catch held by the government.

New type of dive flag?
Submitted by Hairyone on Fri, 2019-01-04 11:15Gday,
Out having a fish inside Port Gregory reef during the week and had a tinne with 4 blokes in it pull up about 50m away and chuck the anchor in. One jumps in for a dive and heads over towards us while the others throw a line in. The diver was dragging a Hi-vis red floating thing about a meter long and 100mm dia which would stand up every now and then????? He swam around our boat and headed along between the reef and my boat where we were fishing and then popped up and floated around for a while until his mates came over and picked him up.
Did he not need a dive flag if hes not diving around his boat and the red thing a precaution or what?
Might be quite legal for all I know , but he was diving near the gap in the reef and the float he was towing could have quite easily been mistaken as a chanel marker and put some poor bastard up on the reef. Not having a shot at anyone but if these red floats are something people are using they need to think were they are using them.
Not the smartest thing Id seen.......
Cheers

Ningaloo Station/Reef Flats Fishing
Submitted by Sam2018 on Thu, 2019-01-03 23:45Hi all! sorry about the huge post!
I am new to this forum so forgive me if I come across inexperienced, its because I sort of am.
Anyways, I am driving up to Ningaloo from Perth on the 31st Januray for 4 nights and heading to Ningaloo Station most likely camping at Winderabandi Point. I will be only SHORE and BEACH FISHING as my friend and I do not own a boat or can get access to use one for the duration of the trip. So I will be doing all reef flats/beach fishing and some snorkelling with a gidgee (spear).
I am aware summer is an extremely windy and hot time of year up that way (I've lived up north previously), my main concern is that I might be unsuccessful with fishing on the flats or the beach/shore due to knowledge of fishing. I have two main rods (Shimano 7ft 3-7kg and an Ugly Stick 7'2 8-12kg) both equiped with decent reels that are graded to the rod strength etc, I'll aslo be bringing a few lighter rods to catch smaller fish for bait etc.. and probably my 11fter for something big if i get bored at night.
Currently have around about 30-40 lures ranging from small whiting lures to massive 30cm poppers (which are staying) I will be purchasing more softies and minnows and other lures needed for the variety of fish up there.
Advice with lure selection on fish type would be great..also some advice or pointers in trying to land some decent fish from the reef/flats or even the sandy parts of Winderabandi Point.
AND if there is also a primarily good camp site for fishing on Ningaloo Station, please let me know! as I am prepared to go where the fish are.
THANKS!
Sam.
