How to hide an expensive tackle purchase from the misses!
Submitted by beeroclock on Wed, 2013-10-16 11:31Gday all - just thought this might be a helpful post for any fellow fisho's looking to treat yourself on new gear for this summer season. Ive recently spent a few thousand on the boat with motor servicing, trailer repairs, new chartplotter combo, etc (never seems to end) and the Mrs had a grumble about it. Then I decided I wanted a new Shimano Tiagra 50W LRS with matching 24kg tiagra rod and black magic harness/gimbal belt at a cost of around $1800 bucks to use out at the FADs this summer. New she would hit the roof if she saw that purchase on our bank statement so I went into Getaway Outdoors in Balcatta after i heard they offer the Certegy Ezipay 1 year interest free payment facility. It had to be ordered in as they dont carry combos that big and I pick it up today at a cost of only $67.00 bucks a fortnight for 1 year interest free - Yippee!. The Mrs is in Bali now so i can get it into the shed without her seeing it and she wont really notice the fortnightly deductions and all rods n reels look the same to her. I presume all Getaway shops offer the Certegy Ezipay so go get some retail therapy fella's.

Ban Time - What's your plan?
Submitted by Tradewind on Wed, 2013-10-16 11:19First season with a boat and I appreciate the impact of the ban now, but rather than be depressed it's time to plan for different targets!
For me i've decided to get the family out on in the sound for some relaxing KG Whiting and Squid.
Weather permitting putting some pots out deeper for crays
Explore some inshore reefs with the snorkel and mask to see if any crays are in
So what's your plan Gents?

Demersal jigging set up
Submitted by ZongZong on Mon, 2013-10-14 22:24Looking at buying a new set up for a bit of Demersal jigging when the ban finishes. Been doing well with the plastics but looking to mix it up a bit more with the jigs. Just wondering what size reels guys are using and also I've got mainly Shimano reels and looking to add another Daiwa but don't know alot about them and what would work for jigging and a stick to go with it. Looking around $600 for the combo.
Cheers

Used outboard
Submitted by dallasthedog on Mon, 2013-10-14 19:41Hi FW's
I was looking for some advice regarding a second outboard purchase.
I have a 1994 7.2m Leeder. The old outboard (1994 v6 Suzuki 4 stroke) has died and I am looking to repower with something as follows:
- Budget of $10k including install,
- 175/ 200 HP,
- ideally 4 stroke but this is subject to price,
- Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki
What I need advice on is:
- Is my budget right?
- Are the brands the right ones?
- Where is the best place to look (I've emailed ~10 Perth dealers and have come up with nil so far)?
Thanks for your help

what do you prefer
Submitted by crezz on Mon, 2013-10-14 18:39what do you prefer, metro fishing or fishing remote areas?
I love getting out and exploring remote areas and being the only person at a fishing spot. fresh or salt water or crabs or marron does not matter to me as long as its an adventure and your not within cooee of anyone else.

Need a new boat trailer - What should I buy
Submitted by collie5 on Mon, 2013-10-14 15:02I need to purchase a new boat trailer for my Chivers (fiberglass) run about. Boat is 18.5 feet long and weighs about 1.4 ton.
I am not too sure what's available. Any info on best brands, new technologies or what to buy would be really appreciated.
I definitly want one with side rollers so I dont have to mess around aligning my boat everytime I try and put it back on the trailer. I have been told a new trailer will probably be worth around $3500-4000.
Thanks in advance.

A day out with Lamby and a massive thanks - (KOTC)
Submitted by dant on Mon, 2013-10-14 13:27Hi All,
Just a quick report - more of a huge thanks to Lamby that took us out fishing on the sunday - your a champion bloke and made our wk end - if you ever up in perth let me know and il take you for a day out fishing on me.
Thanks to Bluetonic for getting me off the boat ramp - got bogged a few times but managed to get out in the end - thanks again mate - legend.
Thanks also to the boys at dunsborough outdoor sportz - appreciate your help and hospitality, if anyone is in the area i definately suggest you drop in and see these guys.
Apologies for not staying around on the sunday - next year i will be booking another night.
Day 1
Shit conditions anywhere with the breez up couldnt get out to much, one quick drift over the artificial yielded a small ytk, came in closer and lobbed a few floaters out - just got sharks and a Nth west Blowy haha.

Day 2
Lamby took us out wide which was awesome as we didnt have a clue about where to go down there, he even waited for us till my slack deckie got his sht together haha, ended up being a great fun day when we hit a spot and on almost every drop the jigs were being hammered by sambos and the odd Dhuie - must have caught about 15 in an hour ranging from 80 - 100cm, definately made our week end. finished off with a couple of snapper late and off we headed in, will fill up the freezer nicely until the ban is over - conditions glassed off and was about to do 35 knots on the way home, could not get any better than that.

So all in all met some great ppl down south and had an absolute blast - hospitality was unreal and a big round of applause to Bluetonic and Lamby for getting this event organised you did a great job - and champion blokes to match.
Look forward to seeing you gents again soon for a beer.
Cheers Dan

Ok, Who was it? Para Flare and muddy river
Submitted by Swompa on Mon, 2013-10-14 12:57During my lunchtime walk out Como jetty and back, at approx 1240, a red Parachute Flare was shot up east north east of Como Jetty, like Bentley/Victoria Park/Kensington direction. Didnt call Police or VMR as it was clearly on land.
Also during my walk, the water heading upriver from Heathcote is really muddy. In patches the visibility is 2m then you get a patch of brown water where the visability would be 100mm. it has chunks of weed and dead fish in it. Almost as if someone turned into a Plough and went over the bank at Heathcote.

Shimano Sustain - Problems and more problems
Submitted by Ninety Mile on Mon, 2013-10-14 11:16Hello All,
Just a quick one to see if any one here has experienced problems with the new FG model Sustains. I cant seem to find any reports of issues online however my experience and my friends experiecned has been nothing but continuous trouble, ruining numerous fishing trips. The reels have spent more time with shimano getting fixed under warranty than anything else. Surely paying close to $400 for a reel you should be buying gear you can have confidence in. Ive lost numerous fish to failures with Drag wahes - slipping drag and line clickers on seperate occasions + mates have had their drags lock up and the drag adjuster free-spinning on the spool. So, is anyone else experiecning problems??? Look foward to hearing anyone elses experiences as im completely miffed on how a top end reel continues to let me and my mates down.
Cheers

Land Based fishing (with the WIFE !)
Submitted by IDreamOfQuobba on Mon, 2013-10-14 10:01G,day fellas,
This is the scoop I need some help with the following delema ?
I was planning on a trip up north around new year with the lads. Was thinking False enterance,Quobba station, etc... was getting very exited buying up new gear etc... etc... talking crap with the lads about all the fish we are going to hook up. Every thing was good and well, UNTIL the MRS got wind of these plans !
She has laid down the guilt and said she wants to go up north and dosent want to be left at home on holidays for a week ! selfish i know. She has proposed we go up alone and do our own thing.
to tell you the truth I dont care who I go with as long as i get in a good fight to break in the new shore jigger and catilina combo. The only problem is How do I get up a makie from the bottom of a cliff with just the wife ? I cant see it happening. The only viable option would be.....
A:To find some easy access and low ledges/beach fishing spots that I can get my catch up on my own. does any one have some spots/suggestions ?? be good if it was close to a dress shop or day spa ? was thinking exmouth/coral bay ?
B: Break the bad news to the mrs that its a no go ! here we come Quobba !!!!!!!!
Help ?

KOTC report
Submitted by sea-kem on Mon, 2013-10-14 06:44 Was an awesome few days down here and the weather finally played ball yesterday. Firstly a big thanks to Liam, Bj and Dave at Outdoor Sportz for a top comp and for sending us in the right direction ( a little local knowledge goes a long way). A few pics:
This bad boy I got on my Demon Blood and 5000 Stella what a work out lol. I had hooked into something earlier on my 8000 that nearly pulled my arms out of their sockets but ended up getting bricked.
Reagan with his pearler pinky which went 760mm pic doesn't do it justice.
The day's catch, so we bagged out and pretty stoked. Lots of of good ground down there to have fun and hunt on. We'll be back!

Tagged snapper capture. 10-10-13
Submitted by Scotte on Sat, 2013-10-12 20:40Had a first the other night when a mates 11 year old son (Ryan)caught one of the tagged pink snapper just outside cockburn sound.basically the fish had grown roughly 65mm in the 3 years since it was initially tagged, giving it an overall length of around 790mm.it was initially tagged inside the sound by a fisheries tagger. But who knows where it has been in between those times.
The snapper was dispatched and upon filleting a circle hook was found inside its gut cavity which i found interesting.Ryan also got a pb of 850mm that night before the sharks moved in.
The carcass is now in the hands of fisheries for their research..

land based snapper blood bath
Submitted by smitho89 on Fri, 2013-10-11 18:48hey all took my grandson and his mates fishing to a land based snapper spot i know (no matter what time of year of condtions we always get a heap but i try not to overfish it) as they were sick of catching sharks. Sorry about the pictures the boys were too busy to be able to give me the individual shots to post up ! i will get individual pictures off their phones later when they come home from getting bait at woodies.
We took 18 snapper altogether (fair few boys came) but these are just pictures of mine,my son and my wifes and lost 14 snapper to sharks as well and also got a gummy, some skippy and some tailor. This is metro if anyone is interested but i wont give out a specific location as it has taken me years to find a spot with no people and a reliable catch ! it was not north mole haha. The boys ran out of bait and were not happy with what we had at the time snapper wise so we filleted a snapper for bait (yes it contributed towards our bag limit) and it worked better than any bait ive ever seen before. Ill try an find the rest of the pictures but for now i hope you all enjoy!
