Thinking bout chasing mackeral mahi and stickfaces. Is this a good time to be chasing these species? Hoping so did ok last year round end march start of april just after gamex with heaps of mahi and tuna and one huge black of our tinnie. All info would be greatly appreciated!

Coral Bay
Submitted by Tim R on Mon, 2011-02-07 16:04Gday Fellas
I am heading to Coral Bay in May and was wondering whether anyone has any co-ords for the South Passage. I have fished out of Exmouth a few times but never out of Coral Bay. I plan to follow someone through the passage the first time but thought it would be handy to have the marks. Also is it true that there are some lead marks on the shore that you can line up?? Pm me if you want to.
Cheers for any help

Spinning Whaler?
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2011-02-07 15:22Man are these fun to catch!!
Went out on the weekend and as I bye catch they are fantastic fun. I use 80lb leader, and it does last just enough time to get them airbourne 1-2 times, and then is over.
If I try to use wire it seem that these dudes are clever and you just get non spinners.
Now some questions:
1 What is the true name? I have been told Black whaler etc but am not sure.
2 Has anyone specifically fished for them, and if so what technique. I would love to know as they certainly go ballastic and I would consider them a sportsfish like mako's because of the fight and airial display.
I wouldnt go out specifically targetting them alone, but our routine out of dampier is to bottom bounce, jig with our 2 rigs, have a live bait on a balloon at the back, and have a Bottom livie with a tethered sinker out the back also, hoping for a big trout etc. This is the rig that gets the attention and I dont use wire on this, because trout dont touch wire in my expierence.
We are often out at night and trout has gone night night, but upping the ante and using wire just gets reefies.
The balloon rig is obviously geared up for toothy visitors.
Any thoughts and/or stories appreciated. I would love to tackle a 5ft + spinner on a rig like my Daiwa Saltiga LD30 TS/ Monster Mesh combo. That might be some serious fun.

Historic Busselton Jetty to be opened
Submitted by Colin Hay on Mon, 2011-02-07 08:48Historic Busselton Jetty to be opened
Portfolio: Premier
Premier Colin Barnett will officially open the refurbished Busselton Jetty with a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony tonight, which will be followed by a massive fireworks display.
This will follow the Busselton Jetty Fiesta, one of the biggest community events to be staged by the Shire of Busselton, and is expected to draw a crowd of more than 5,000 people.
Mr Barnett said the historic jetty had been closed to the public since May 2009, during which time it had undergone a $27million refurbishment program.
“The Liberal-National Government made a commitment of $24million to fund the restoration program in 2008 shortly after it came into government as it recognised the impact this tourism landmark has to the South-West,” he said.
“More than 400,000 people visit the Busselton Jetty each year and it is the fourth most visited site in Western Australia behind Kings Park, Rottnest Island and the Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park.”
The Premier also commended the work of the Shire of Busselton to the jetty’s refurbishment and the long-term commitment of the Busselton Jetty Environment and Conservation Association
“The jetty has endured over the years, thanks largely to the tremendous support of the community and volunteers and to the hundreds of thousands of visitors who choose to stroll its length, visit the Underwater Observatory, fish, swim, scuba dive or snorkel the waters surrounding it,” he said.
The Busselton Jetty Fiesta will commence at 1pm on the Busselton Foreshore with the official opening at 8pm followed by the fireworks display.
The Busselton Jetty will be a hive of activity the following day (Sunday) with the 16th Annual Busselton Jetty Swim. It is expected to attract more than 12,000 swimmers who will swim out and around the jetty - a distance of 3.6km.

6lb VS. 15lb fluro
Submitted by Spinnerak on Sun, 2011-02-06 07:46I was using 6lb last time for flats fishing before i got bitten off by a reasonable size flathead, taking my TT ghostblade with it.
Is it better to go up to 15lb or risk it on 6, as i haven't been able to get to the tackle shops and I am going fishing this arvo.
Anything appreciated,

Hoping to drop the crab pots and then try for some herring or tailor - where's my best bet? Heard there were pleanty of choppers around the narrows a while ago - are they still about? Would be good fun to try and troll for them, any other lure suggestions besides twisty's? And the hezza's.. read in the paper tht there are a few about in the swan but haven't caught them there yet - where is a good spot to try? Any help would be much appriciated!

mono vs braid for low profile bait caster
Submitted by otoshi on Fri, 2011-02-04 19:59hi all,
need some advice from all those who use a low profile baitcaster.
which would be a better line to put on to such a unit. mono have memory and its not easy to cast(IMO unless i am using 10lb or below) and the braid digs into the spool and cause some issues like sticking in the spool not wanting to come out..
my 1st low profile is a daiwa megaforce 100TSHL(still using now). had mono on until i spool it up with 16lb.. it was just almost impossible to cast. then switch to braid.. which works great unit you hook up something decent and the braid starts digging into the spool causing some problem on the next cast or even on the fight of that decent hook up.
have recently got my paws on a daiwa TD-Ito 103HL... hoping to get some advice on which would be better to spool on.
line class will be between 16lb - 20lb.
target weight around 2kg-8kg (ave around 4kg mark)
lure weight: 1/4oz - 3/4oz
freshwater only (heavy weeded area)
thank in advance.

Hopefully catch some smaller stuff with the flicky and then throw out a livebait.
Am i any chance of getting one at this time of year?
Can anyone give me some pointers or general info about that area and targeting mulloway in the swan? EG: best bait, times place etc

marlin gear, what you really need
Submitted by grayzeee on Thu, 2011-02-03 22:41well , after all the reports of a great pelagic season this year , i was wondering how to set up for a day out wide in search of big game fish without having to spend thousands on a few tiagra's ,bent butt roller tip game rods , outriggers , downriggers , game chairs , countless different lures in every colour and all the other gear the pro boats use.
obviously this is ideal , but what can you get away with that will still possibly land you that fish of a lifetime.
for instance , going out with tld's or tyrnos reels re spooled with mono on 24kg glass rods??
are you going to get your ass whipped and shown the door or is it possible to get into some action provided you find the fish?
how best to get the most from lower end gear??
