which one are you
Submitted by catchalittle on Tue, 2009-05-19 13:46Was speaking with a couple of blokes that I work with who are both avid fishermen, one is strictly a catch and release as he does not like to eat fish, the other is like me loves the thrill of the catch and fish's for a feed. Each to their own I suppose. So the question is which one are you just thought tyhis would be an interesting topic to get other peoples perspective.

problem with saltist HELP!!
Submitted by original teenage on Mon, 2009-05-18 18:46hey guys, i dunno if its only my saltist with the problem or its normal, but i cant cast properly with my saltist with big baits and leads,no idea why?i know thumbing it and all as i can cast other o/h and b/c fine, but when i cast it backlash as soon as i let go my thumb, and half way between hitting the water it backlashes, and i get a birds nest, all the time when it happen, but i can bomb out just leads by them self 40-50m,no idea why,but maybe its to do with the speed the line is coming out of the spool,i tried tightening the cast control then it becomes too tight and when i loosen it it become too loose, any ideas why this is happening?im running 50lb sunline ,braid..help!!

Fishing this saturday
Submitted by fishing fanatic on Mon, 2009-05-18 13:48G'day guys
Me and a few mates are going out on my boat fishing this saturday, was just wondering a few spots to go for small to big fish.....
I have a 4.2 meter , only a small boat used in a river alot and my main question was .... would i be able to use it to get to some decent fish like some sambos or kingies.
Cause last saturday i landed my first sambo ( 44lb ) freaking huge so im all pumped up to go out again but yer just checking if it was possible to go out on my little fishing boat to get some decent sized fish
Thanks

Flying tuna to breed
Submitted by Colin Hay on Mon, 2009-05-18 09:54(Courtesy of the ABC)
Millions of dollars worth of tuna will be airlifted from sea pens to an onshore facility at Arno Bay today. (AAP Image)
Map: Arno Bay 5603
Aquaculture giant Clean Seas will today airlift millions of dollars worth of tuna from sea pens to its onshore breeding facility at Arno Bay, on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula.
Up to 30 divers, scientists and aquaculture technicians will be involved in the operation.
As many as 10 southern bluefin tuna each weighing up to 200 kilograms will be lifted from the sea by helicopter and lowered into the breeding facility.
The tuna will join others in the breeding tank for the company's world-first commercialisation of aquaculture-bred southern bluefin tuna later this year.
Clean Seas was the first company in world to airlift fish three years ago.
The chairman of Clean Seas, Hagen Stehr, says today's operation will be extremely complex.
He says if the fish are stressed, they will not breed successfully.
"Tuna are exceptionally difficult creatures to keep calm, the smallest aggravation and the tuna can become quite unruly," he said.
"It's like a human being, if you're stressed, it might be difficult to make love.
"They've been bought up to this stage for close to 10 years and they've been fed in a specific way, step by step by step, those tuna eat better than I do."

Gday
Submitted by couldntcatchacold on Sun, 2009-05-17 20:00Well im pretty new to the whole fishing thing and well as the name says i cant even catch a cold haha. I live in eaton and have tried the collie river with different rigs baits and different times and come up with nothing or blowies. Went out last night to buffalo and caught a couple of small whiting on my river rod that i used for bait on my beach rod and managed to bring in a 32 cm tailor was happy with that but well im really looking to improve my fishing was just wondering if there was anyone who could give me a couple of tips about how to pick a good spot to fish, how to cast further into the surf and what kind of times i should be heading out. What i really want to catch is a black bream just to prove to everyone something other than blowies exists in the collie river haha! Thanks in advance for any tips!

Submitted by Bodie on Sun, 2009-05-17 19:45was out on Saturday, pretty early arriving to a nice spot around 7am.
No boats in site nothing the water was dead quiet!!
next minute a boat comes boaring over our way and i said to my mate 'watch thie bloke will come right up and ping us, he was about 2kms away at the time'.
And he came right up and circled us!!! looking at the sounder, looking at us...
At the time all 3 of us were loaded up on fish so was dam hard to hide it.
So they moved aboput 40m up drift of us and drifted right over our run!!!
We were maybe 10 minutes on our location before this happened!!!
First time Ive seen this happen

Floater and what do we do
Submitted by crasny1 on Fri, 2009-05-15 19:24I have just raised something in Simos regarding the beautiful cod.
I hate killing fish and just wonder if there is or might be a solution to the floaters we are and have been by regulation forced to leave behind (as usual probably for the "Tax Man"). See the link
Cheers

Sinker moulds wanted to borrow
Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 2009-05-15 13:41Hi Guys,
A mate of mine has 300kg of lead he removed from his yacht and wants to borrow the size 16, 18, 20, 24 sinker moulds for bottom bouncing snapper type sinkers. In return he will give you a bag of sinkers.
Will collect - prefer SOR - Canning Vale area.
Alternatively does someone want to make him a few bags in return for a shitload of lead?
Cheers

Boat casting combo
Submitted by Sekans on Thu, 2009-05-14 18:28I'm looking at buying a new rod and reel to use for casting lures off the boat. I would like to use it for a range of species, from herring and gardies to maybe salmon and tailor. I think I want something around the 7 foot mark. Any recommendations on a new rod and reel combo up to about $150 would be great. I'm not looking for anything flash, just something that would do the job.
Thanks guys.

Injurys or storys of heading out in rough weather
Submitted by tailor marc on Wed, 2009-05-13 08:27This should make for a good topic ,
Now i have been out in rough weather in a boat 3+ meter swell but i have never been out where the skipper (hard dude) punched through each wave without backing off until while up in Karraha.
Now it wasnt that rough but we were going airborne strait into the face of on coming waves. I was fully shitting!!!
Each time we hit the oncoming wave it was like doing 10 rounds with mike tyson!!! Hurt like all hell!!!!
Infact no joke my nuts were slapping the seat and as soon as the nut ache went away then BANG!!!! again!! My poor nuts!!! I recong i fracturd a few vertebres in my neck! This guy was a hard ass!!!
He only slowed down when the live well bent the beams in the floor! Thank goodness for my nuts!
Another time was steep point! Got real rough while in the tinny and we hit the face of a wave, i landed face down on a eskie biting my lip and hurting my knees and hands/ wrist and my mate mat smashed his knees against the ally seat!
Whats storys have you all had?
