Crays
Submitted by Bodie on Mon, 2009-01-12 08:22Anybody still out getting crays at the moment?
Only saw 2 rec pots out yesterday and saw the pro's are now out in the 100m plus mark.
Still managed a feed yesterday when we pulled the pots.. about 10 in total.
Spoke to a fishereies guy at woodies ramp and he said we were the only ones to bring crays in for the day.
Divers not out getting any either?
Cheers

Submitted by Justin Poole on Mon, 2009-01-12 05:49After my line catching on a tree on the way to the ramp and getting there with an empty spool i am now in need of some new 37kg braid for my Jigging outfit, looking around on the net I see there are a few different choices.

Seabreeze
Submitted by bluebagger on Sun, 2009-01-11 13:41Thinking about going for fish tomorrow and was wondering what time the seabreeze has been kicking in. Don't live right on coast and it seems that what the wind is doing here can be a bit different on the coast 30km away. I want to get the boat in and go reasonably deep off Mandurah. Was in Mandurah yesterday and at 1pm it was quite strong but can go early and get back in before it gets up too much. Have been checking out BOM, seabreeze, elders etc and they all seem to say different things. Supposed to be a cool change tomorrow and askhuey says go for it but BOM is saying go in the cut or crabbing. Who uses what web sites for weather and how accurate are they. Any advise would be appreciated.
GO BLUES.

Ignorance!!
Submitted by Willy on Sun, 2009-01-11 09:23Well after reading about ignorant fisherman, I experienced it firsthand my self last night.
Went for a Tailor session with the brother and a mate. parked our vehicle and walked 1/2 a kilometer along the deserted beach and set up. Commenced fishing, then had 3 fellows join us. They stopped 10 meters away from us, no welcome, no socials!! The beach was deserted!! Just us, yet they felt compelled to fish right beside us. I was furious. To top it off, after they left, I found their beer bottles discarded in the sand. Got back to the carpark and found more discarded plastic bags.
Went for a drive and found them in another fishing area and calmly explained they shouldn't leave their rubbish behind.
I am amazed as to why they needed to fish with us in our back pockets! What gives?![]()
regards
Willy,
Oh yeah, caught 4 nice tailor

Rig storage suggestions
Submitted by HuggyB on Sat, 2009-01-10 19:28I've tried rig rolls - not a fan.
How is everyone else storing their pre-tied paternoster/drift bait/general bottom bashing rigs so they aren't a mess of tangles and a royal pita while out on the water? Any help would be welcomed!

Two Rocks Sunday
Submitted by TopEnder on Fri, 2009-01-09 21:20I'm keen to take a friend out off Two rocks on Sunday and I know its cheeky, but does anyone have any spots they could help me out with. I'm from Jandakot way and have never fished North of about City Beach. My mate is not a fisho but a spearo so we are hoping to mix a little of both into the day. He has dived a bit up that way but only within a k or 2 mainly back toward Mindarie he is a bit of a freedive nut.
I was hoping to head out in the morning for a serous bottom fish and then as the day heats up head back in fo a dip over the side. ( hopefully without any toothy encounters). Any suggestions of gps coords would be great appreciated. Feel free to pm me if its easier. I have a Raymarine chart plotter but that only tells you so much. Local experience is priceless. Thanks in advance and i promise your secrets are safe with me. I mainly catch and release too if thats easier on your spots.
Regards Dave

Scalie Mackerel / any around yet?
Submitted by scano on Fri, 2009-01-09 15:36Not sure if I am jumping the gun or not but any reports of some Scalies comming through as yet?
Keen to start collecting some bait for Salmon and Tailor and they are always good at staying on the hook (a lot better than Mulie's)
I normally go to Eshed to catch them when they are comming through but I am not sure if they have come in as yet?
any spots or reports where they are currently being caught would be good.
and finally does anyone use them as baits out deep? for Dhuie's and Snapper ect? I myself haven't as yet but I reckon they would work pretty well?

FW Exmouth Comp Prize
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2009-01-09 14:33Hey Crew,
Gully has put up a prize for the Exmouth fishing comp and we need a decision on which photo to use. We are going to blow one of these up and print it out to be a beautiful wall mount. For those of you coming up for the comp, please let me know which photo you think is better. I have attached them to this thread but have to make them small as to ensure no one else copies/uses them.
Cheers,
Adam

Threadline Upgrades
Submitted by WODF on Thu, 2009-01-08 20:10What would be the best way to go about upgrading a small to medium threadline/spinning reel, from 2500 Shimano's to 4000 Daiwa's? Anybody done this before? What can you do to them? I'm particuarly interested in high end drag washers to get the best out of my reels. Any advice?
Cheers in advance

Releasing Female Dhuies in summer
Submitted by Wazo on Thu, 2009-01-08 17:33Here's a tin of worms... As a rule I've always released females between November and Feb whenever I caught them on The Bank(spawning ground.)
I have to admit that it's been hard, but for the greater good I think it's just smarter.
Don't get me wrong.. I fish for bags and as a rule i don't hug trees, but in this case I lean on the green side.
What do you think Lads???
And have you got the gut's to follow suit??
...and then the fight started

Sunday Weather
Submitted by Stevef on Thu, 2009-01-08 16:18What is everybody's take on the forecast for Sunday?
It appears the best of a bad bunch, with a fair bit of south in the wind. I have a bloke keen for a fish out wide, however we are debating whether it is worth his 3 hour drive to Perth for Sunday.
Any input would be appreciated.
Cheers Steve

weekend plans?
Submitted by H.S. Chan on Thu, 2009-01-08 12:46just wondering, anyone got any land/shore based fishing plans for this weekend? Like what you might be chasing, when, where you may be doing it. I guess it gives us F.W. fishos a chance to get together or drop by to say hello.
I, myself will probably be hunting rays at north mole this saturday night, while waiting, i'd be trolling for tailor and snook. Probably get there about 6-7pm. I'm always camped near the toilet block, my white wrx is always parked next to the rocks where i'll be. If anyone round, drop past say hello. If its a bad night, i might venture somewhere else, maybe mindarie marina or kwinana grain jetty depending on wind.

buff bream
Submitted by schecky on Thu, 2009-01-08 11:06does anyone here ever give buff bream a bash for sport?
found an awesome spot for them in hilarys last week
they school in the hundreds in this spot and the biggest ones would go 8kg easy
me and SOI discovered the spot while snorkelling
we were chucking bits of seaweed to them and they were nailing it
in amongst the buffys ther were a couple of BIG tarwhine
we threw a couple of plastics at them but nothing to show for it
i think buff hunting is great fun and the fish are underrated (not eating qualities
)
we were nailing em on light tackle and were having an awesome time on the 1kg ones
u gotta watch out if you hook a bigger one on light tackle though
i got seriously made p*** by one on 4lb!
this one would have been bout 4kg
we try using dough but the blowies get to it too quick mostly or falls off
but if u get it at a good consistancy and wait til sundown the blowies go away and buffs come out and you get em on dough
so give it a try guys

Lowrance Broadband Sounder-1
Submitted by PACEMAKER on Thu, 2009-01-08 09:53Finally went out and purchased the lowrance Broadband Sounder-1 which was hooking upto my LMS525c DF. After letting a mate know I had it he wasted no time coming over and helping with the fitt up. A rather simple device to install. When at the shop they informed me that I may need to update my 525 with the latest ver 2.4 to give the extra features for the new Broadband. I checked my 525 only to find I was only running ver 1.6. After chasing up an SD card and a Mini card reader I went onto the Lowarce webby and downloaded the ver 2.4. Putting it into the 525 was easy as when you turn it on it automatically recognises the sd upgrade and does the install for you. By all reports the broadband is a good thing boosting orginal 250 watts up to 2000 watts giving a 3D image of clarity with separtion of fish, thermoclines and bottom detail. Does anybody have one of these they can give feedback on? So now its the big wait to see how this puppy goes in the water. The boys are ready and waiting for the phone call. I will give some feed back as soon as i can.
